THE GAME: NEW YORK KNICKS vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

ImageImage

Another road game for Golden State, this time facing the struggling New York Knicks in the legendary Madison Square Garden. Stephon Marbury started out hot and scored 12 of his team’s 25 first quarter points, most of them on fast breaks and three pointers from the corner. Baron Davis tried to keep up and had 7 during the same stretch, but his team trailed 25-21 after 12 minutes of play. In the second period, the Warriors managed to momentarily seize control and went up by a point, led by their dominance of the offensive boards, courtesy of Stromile Swift’s athletic prowess. But them Starbury exploded for another flurry of baskets to help the Knicks close out the half being ahead by 6, 45-39. The second half started with the two teams remaining close, but with the Knicks always being one step ahead of their opponents. Mike Sweetney’s rebounding along with Jamal Crawford’s perimeter scoring kept their team ahead, all the while Jason Richardson and Baron Davis were doing virtually all the scoring for the Warriors. It all went down to the fourth and final quarter of play, when the visitors usually elevate their game just enough to break ahead. And that’s exactly what happened tonight, with Jason Richardson taking the leader’s and scorer’s mantle from BD and proceeding to destroy all of Lenny Wilkens’ defensive schemes. BD himself was having a great night on defense with 7 steals for the night, and despite Kurt Thomas’ amazing final 7 minutes, the Golden State Warriors left the MSG having defeated the Knicks with a score of 95 – 99.

Hmm, a matchup against the team in your other dynasty  But at least you won in this one, good game from B-Diddy and Stro almost had a 15-15 performance.

Nice games. (Y) I wonder who would win a GSW dunk contest, BD vs. JRich vs. Stro vs. Pietrus. :D

It'd better come, considering all the effort I've put into this one...

Stro is a bit inconsistent, but in his good day he'll get 15 boards and 4-5 blocks for sure. Or, as Riot would say, 'fo 'sho!

good game and like the x says jus continue this dynasty and the love will come

Thanks. (Y)

THE GAME: PHILADEPHIA 76ERS vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

ImageImage

A trip to the city of brotherly love for the Warriors, who are in the middle of their longest road trip of the season. Golden State started this game strong, with Baron Davis quickly racking up 10 points and 4 dimes in the first 10 minutes, leading his team to a secure 6-9 point lead early on in the contest. The impressive part, though, was J-Rich’s 11 straight points to open the game that led to an amazing 1-11 lead for the visitors 6 minutes into the quarter. The second period saw the Sixers rallying behind Allen Iverson and backup power forward Lonny Baxter, trying to cut back on the deficit, but they succeeded only partially, since Luke Walton’s all around performance and BD’s continuing flawless run and control of the game tempo had the Warriors leading in the half by 9, 37-46. The third quarter was a regular nightmare for the home side, with very few shots finding their intended target and poor defense on their part allowing GS’s perimeter players to run rampant. Jason Richardson was scoring unhindered from every imaginable spot on the court, inside and outside, Troy Murphy was getting quite a few hustle points and Davis was running the point admirably once more, which all resulted in a comfortable 51-70 3rd quarter score. In the fourth and final period of the game, the Warriors relaxed a bit too much and allowed the Sixers back in it near the end, mainly due to a late scoring spree by Chris Webber and Allen Iverson, but it still wasn’t enough in the end to deter the Golden State Warriors, who took this game with a score of 83 – 91.

I'm steamrolling into the playoffs... plus the West is pretty even behind the Spurs this year so I just might grab a high seed in the end...

THE GAME: DETROIT PISTONS vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

ImageImage

Another game in the season’s longest road trip for the Warriors, taking them to Motown to face the reigning champions Pistons. It started off with both teams shooting well from mid-range, and being always close since on one could shake loose. Luke Walton, Jason Richardson and Baron Davis had 7 points apiece and combined for 21 of Golden State’s 27 first quarter points. On the other side of the fence, Detroit was led to the 27-27 score by Rip Hamilton’s and Lindsey Hunter’s 6 points each. The second period was pretty much the same story, with neither team being able to break out and offenses being the focus on both sides. Rip Hamilton and Jason Richardson had a little back-and-forth scoring contest around mid-quarter, while Baron Davis’s had already passed the ball for 7 assists by halftime. The score at the half was 50-49 for the Pistons.

Image

The game’s second half was not much different, either, Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton were giving BD and J-Rich the runaround on offense, and vice versa when possession was reversed. Davis was continuing to rack up the assists, all the while Stromile Swift was using his athletic leverage to bring down the boards in the paint. Not only that, but he was doing a pretty good job passing the ball when the Pistons chose to double-team him, nearing triple double numbers way before the final stretches of the game. Rasheed Wallace had a minor arm injury that had him benched for a while, but he was right back in it for the fourth quarter. In that final quarter, the drama was on from the first till the final possession. Starting the period with a score of 76 – 79 for the Warriors, Detroit quickly rallied behind Rip Hamilton’s jumpers for a 17-10 run to make it 93 – 89, with 3.31 left on the clock. The visitors rallied back led by Davis and Walton, with a crucial long jumper by the latter and a tip-in by Troy Murphy making it 99-103 with a minute to go. The Pistons would not give up, though, and managed to score 9 points in the final minute as opposed to the Warriors’ 5 to send the game to overtime, with a score of 108 – 108.

Image

The extra five minutes saw the two teams contesting toe-to-toe once more, with Jason Kapono being the only one scoring for Golden State. In fact, with the score at 108 – 105 for the Pistons with one last possession left for the Warriors, J-Kapp managed to set himself loose from Rip Hamilton in the corner, caught the pass by Davis, and rose for the tying three with the buzzer sounding a fraction of a second after he released it…. The ball went in, the game is TIED AGAIN… but was the shot valid?

ImageImage

After some deliberation, the refs decided that the shot was good, much to the disappointment of the Detroit players and fans. On to another extra period to decide the winner…

The second overtime saw Jason Kapono being still in the zone, continuing to dagger in those three pointers and handing BD’s stat sheet some assists on the side…. Rip Hamilton was pretty much carrying the entire offensive load for Detroit, scoring non-stop against a fatigued opposition. The last possession was once again for the Warriors, with them now trailing by two, 132-130. The Pistons were expecting another set play for J-Kapp to be free for the three, but instead the crafty marksman cut towards the basket, found himself right beneath the rim, caught the pass by Richardson and proceed to score on a reverse layup, once more tying up the game, once mnore at the buzzer, and forcing one more OT.

Image

OT number 3 on the way… Jason Richardson stepped up offensively
after Kapono had exhausted himself playing non-stop for 30 minutes more or less, and kept answering Rip’s baskets one by one. The J-Rich / Rip scoring contest was a bit reminiscent of the old ‘Nique/ Bird days, but in the end the one just neutralized the other, ending the period 145-145, to force YET ANOTHER OVERTIME, the 4th…!!!

The 4th extra period proved to be the decisding one, as Hamilton still had some drops left in the tank, all the while Golden State’s players were barely able to walk up and down the court, with some of the having logged more than 60 minutes on the court for the night. The final score was 159 – 153 for Detroit, but the main focus of the game was that in the end, the entire Auburn Hills Palace was on their feet giving both teams a standing ovation for giving them one of , if not THE, best regular season games of the past 10 years.

Yup, it was one exciting game... Jason Kapono is turning into Golden State's version of Robert Horry...

Coming Up: The road still beckons... a trip to Indianapolis to face the East-leading Pacers... with the Warriors suffer a second consecutive defeat at the hands of the other of the Conference's powerhouse? Stay tuned...
