Lakers Complete Sweep

LAL: 22 - 35 - 19 - 28 - 104
MEM: 29 - 22 - 19 - 21 - 91

21-8 Los Angeles Lakers sweep series against 17-12 Memphis Grizzlies 3-0

Memphis – The Los Angeles Lakers improved to 11 straight games won and showed Memphis why they are the best team in the NBA. Kobe Bryant was injured in the second quarter and spent the rest of the night on the bench, cheering his teammates on.

Bryant finished with 10 points and had to sit and watch his replacement Kareem Rush catch on fire to score 21 points in 22 minutes of court time. Rush's back to back triples pushed the Lakers ahead 95-89 with 3:12 left in the game and sent the Lakers bench into hysterics. Later, Juan Dixon's breakaway layup and Kwame Brown's hook shot sent the Grizzlies' bench to congratulate their opponents.

Pau Gasol was sad about his early exit from the playoffs but admitted that the Lakers were the better team during the course of the series, "Los Angeles are a good team. I think they will go all the way."

Coach Mike Fratello also praised the Lakers, "We could have won any of these games we dropped but the Lakers, even only having just meshed as a team are looking quite dangerous. They are good and I'm afraid that they haven't played at a higher level yet."

Carlos Boozer added a double double of 12 and 11 while Ron Artest scored 17 points for the Lakers. Kwame Brown silenced his former critics with an outstanding all around effort of 16 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks. Pau Gasol led the Grizzlies with 25 points and 12 rebounds while James Posey made the most of his open looks with 19 points.

Kobe Bryant left the game with 4:53 left and went to the trainer's room. "I thought his ankle was acting up again," Karl Malone the team trainer stated, "But the kid is alright. All he needs is a bit of a rest."

Vintage Kobe all right! I kept him doing nothing for the first trhee quarters... exactly what the real life Kobe should do!

RR wrote:I'm not looking too bad on my predictions...yet.

Kwame with a 20-20 game, and Booz with almost a triple double. Your team is pretty stacked.

I really need to adjust my rebounding... anyone got any suggestions?

Mafia wrote:Good job on the first game, your bound to win the championship because like Remy said, your stacked unless one of your key players get hurt (JINX)

Since my PC crashed, and I had to sim, i checked the playerstats for kobe... after game 2 his minutes was at 84, then after Game 3 it was at 100... and his points only rose by 10, so i assume he did get injured in Game 3...

Asdf wrote:(I never knew you were asian...... I have always pictured you looking like the crocodile hunter on TV ......)

Oh crikey... i'm like him?

Cloudy wrote:Sit is yellow?!
Anyway..great game...is Kwame that good?!

yeah it does....however, I wouldn't suggest doing many pics like that....it's not an effect you want to abuse....the type of thing to use once in a while....I think most people would want pics they can see clearly so if you do once in a blue moon then it's great (Y)

SECOND ROUND: Western Conference Rivalry Reignites or Will It?

21-8 LA Lakers (1) vs. 19-10 Sacramento Kings (4)

The Lakers haven’t beaten the Kings in the last year. So as Chris Webber boasted, “How can it be called a rivalry?” Kobe Bryant is hoping that his team can take it to their Western opponents and show them what they’ve got. It’s the Kings’ fast paced offence against LA’s offence which runs off all seven cylinders… Here is a breakdown on the two teams:

Center: Kwame Brown vs. Brad Miller

Both of them have been All-stars for the Western Conference. It’s now two brands of opposing basketball. Miller’s team orientated, mid range game against Kwame’s ‘bang down low’ post game. Miller should be strong enough to hold his own against the youngster and his post game is underrated. Kwame will find it hard to defend Miller especially in the post as he found it hard to defend Gasol.

Edge: Sacramento

Forwards: Carlos Boozer/Ron Artest vs. Chris Webber/Peja Stojakovic

One of the only teams who can match up well with the Lakers; Sacramento has a pair of All-stars to take on the super duo of Booze and Artest. Booze and Artest make the Kings’ duo look softer than they really are. One thing is a problem for the Lakers, the traits that are supposed to stop Peja and C-Webb haven’t been shown in the playoffs thus far. Even Miller could score against Artest and Peja is a far superior marksman from beyond the arc. Webber can dish it from the post and the two will be a headache for the Lakers in this series. We all know that Boozer and Artest can score but where is the defence they put up during the season?

Edge: Sacramento

Guards: Kobe Bryant/Juan Dixon vs. Doug Christie/Mike Bibby

For some reason, Mike Bibby always does well against the Lakers. That is why Juan Dixon has been reinserted into the starting five in an attempt to slow the Team USA guard down. Bibby is quick and is very proficient with the rock in his hands and will provide problems for Dixon to handle. Kobe on the other hand will be a headache for the Kings and it will take a little more than Doug Christie to top him. However, Kobe can’t do it all himself as an ankle injury scared the team in Game 3 at Memphis. Kobe’s body needs to hold up or the team is finished just like last year!

Edge: Tie

Bench:

The aging Bobby Jackson will be no match for the Lakers’ plethora of young, hardworking benchwarmers. Ratchuk will play a role with less pressure and should perform well. Rush provides the shooting touch from off the bench when needed and Brian Grant has proven time and time again that he can score and rebound when needed.

Edge: Lakers

Intangibles:

The Lakers are on an 11 game winning streak, even though they had to dig in deep against the Memphis Grizzlies. The team is fresh after a 3 game series as opposed to the tiring Kings who only completed a 5 game series yesterday. Sacramento has 4 out of 4 times in the last year. Basically it is the Lakers’ winning streak and their dominance at home verses Sacramento’s invulnerability and experience against LA. I think its Lakers due to the fact that the Kings will be tired!

Edge: Lakers

Result:

This is a hard one but judging on momentum, LA looks like they will go into this match up very well. As long as they can win on their home court, even if they drop their away games, they can still take out the series!

Prediction: Lakers win 3-2

Team Statistics Comparison:

LA Lakers | Kings

109 ppg | 96 ppg
54 rpg | 41 rpg
28 apg | 25 apg
3.7 bpg | 5 bpg
9.6 spg | 9.3 spg
