Good to see Kobe back, I hope he finishes the season strong.

Those twins sound awesome, it would be pretty awesome if they got on the same NBA team :P

I look foward to seeing what happens next season.

Keep it up (Y)

Real nice to see Kobe back as much as I can't stand him  This will make your team very dangerous once again even though they were doing fine without him. Can't wait to see him back in the starting lineup.

Cept I'm at the top and ur at the bottom... about the Cowboys... yeah.. its pacing the way for Bryan Cooper's entrance into the NBA! Gotta love it! lol

Lakers on Top of Western Conference

Denver Nuggets 107 @ Los Angeles Lakers 116

Apr 4, Los Angeles - The playoff atmosphere may have led to the playoff quality game. The Lakers are at the top of the NBA's better Conference after last night's comeback, overtime game in which they only narrowly escaped defeat thanks to a game tying 13-0 spurt in the final 2 minutes. The scoreline doesn't tell it all for the Lakers or the Nuggets as the game was closer than the final 9 point result.

Remus McCarty played one of his finest games of the season as the rookie SG scored 30 points, including 6 long range bombs that kept LA at bay for most of the match. The Nuggets' frontline did their best, using their muscle against the opposing team. Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin proved a very efficient inside duo combining for 29 points, 26 rebounds and blocking 8 blocks while only misfiring on 6 shots together.

"Macca, K-Mart and Marcus really kept us in it for the whole game," Captain Carmelo Anthony stated, "It was our fault and mines partly that we were unable to win it in the end." Anthony had promised a win since the time he stepped off his plane last night but joined fellow third year player LeBron James on the list of players the crippled Kobe Bryant managed to surprise. Anthony finished on 16 points but missed 11 three point attempts, half of them were forced by Bryant's tough defence in the third and fourth quarters.

For the second consecutive night, Bryant played a large role off the bench. His participation in this game though was a half time decision thanks to Kareem Rush's injury after just 8 minutes and Juan Dixon and Kyle Korver's horrible play throughout the second quarter. "We weren't going to play him (Kobe) but in the end we were down by double digits and took our chances," Assistant coach Michael Cooper stated.

Bryant came on and the Lakers looked like they weren't going to benefit with his presence. As the star limped on court and made a few good jumpshots, the star guard didn't score from the 7:12 mark in the fourth quarter; when he returned to the bench, until the very end of the game.

"My ankle was feeling bad after last night but it did get better," Bryant said, "At least we got two weeks till the next game." Bryant finished on 10, 4 and 7 in only 19 minutes of game time.

Kwame Brown was pivitol in the victory as he scored 12 points in the final quarter and then scored another 6 in the extra time period. The 6'11" C finished on 33, 13, 5 while frontcourt counterpart Carlos Boozer finished up on 15, 23, 5, 4 steals and 2 blocks. "Fine efforts from our frontcourt players," Brian Shaw said. Ron Artest was impressive as he finished on 22 points and hit 4 three pointers.

Denver's coach George Karl was happy with his team's performance and credited LA to the win, "This was well played, maybe our teams will meet in the NBA Semi-Finals!"

The Lakers and Nuggets both started off slowly. Kareem Rush heated up from the field and had the Lakers up by 9 before getting injured on a layup attempt. The Nuggets then fought back and then at start of the second quarter, they ushered in a 13-0 run to claim the lead. Denver stayed in front for most of the night and the lead never looked to be threatened until the 3:12 point of the final period.

Bryant came off the bench and directed the Lakers' offence to a 13-0 run which tied the game up at 96-96. With 2:54, the Lakers were trailing on 96-83 before Kwame Brown scored on a hook shot, then Fredrik Ratchuk stole the ball and assisted a Carlos Boozer dunk. Ron Artest then got the ball to dribble downcourt for a dunk and then stole the ball once more and freed himself on the arc for a wide open bomb. Kwame then scored two more buckets, his last coming with 43.6 seconds left to tie the game at 96-96.

Remus McCarty was forced into a missed jumper by Bryant and the Lakers took the ball downcourt once more to set up a perfect play for Ron Artest. Artest who was wide open at the top of the key missed his jumper before it was rebounded by Boozer. Kobe then called for a pick and briskly dribbled round Kwame's body to launch a shot from the right elbow. As the buzzer sounded, the ball hit the iron and didn't drop.

"I thought it was in," Bryant said after the game, "Luckily we were tied with them or else I'd be in trouble."

The overtime period saw the Lakers send on Juan Dixon instead of Kobe Bryant. Dixon was money on the first play as he sank a three to kick off the extra session. Denver then sped ahead to lead the game by 5 points before the lakers kept their opponents scoreless for the final 2 minutes. Kobe Bryant came back off the bench to control the tempo and hit Artest with two great passes. After Kwame Brown's dunk that put LA ahead by 2 at 109-107 with 1:54 left, the lakers dominated from thereafter.

Ron Artest scored an open jumper, then Boozer slammed home another to make it 113-107. It was all over when Artest scored another three pointer with 12.8 seocnds left in the match and the home team left the game to a standing ovation.

"This was our most important game," Artest said, "Noone was going to let anyone down!"

The Lakers are first as a result of this game and with only 2 games remaining, no other team can get first except for Denver and that would mean the Lakers have to lose one and Denver win their last three games for that to happen.

"We're number one baby! All this hard work paid off," Kareem Rush screamed as he nursed his arm.

NOTES:

With two games left, the Lakers have to lose their next two in order for Denver to have a chance to get into first place... SG Kobe Bryant is said to be resting his ankle and will be at 75% for the next game against the Golden State Warriors... LA can clinch the Pacific Title if they defeat Golden State in 2 weeks... SG Kareem Rush only suffered a minor injury and will be fit in a few days... Current Record: 19-8 (12-1, 7-7)

Reigning MVP Dominates Struggling Warriors

Golden State Warriors 88 @ Los Angeles Lakers 119

Apr 14, Los Angeles - The Lakers won their seventh straight game and cemented their position in the playoffs by clinching both the Pacific Division Crown and the best record in the West with a stomping of Golden State who featured four former Lakers.

In their home coming to STAPLES Centre, Derek Fisher, Brian Cook, Slava Medvedenko and Chucky Atkins ran into their former captain Kobe Bryant on the wrong night. Bryant showed fans, haters and the NBA alike that he was back at his ebst by scoring from all over the court to finish on 51 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. It took an NBA season high 43 attempts to get to the 50 mark but Head Coach Magic Johnson didn't mind, "This is called winning games for your team. Kobe needed a warmup to catch up to his lost form and the Warriors were the team to do it!"

With Kobe doing most of the scoring, his teammates only needed to stand and watch on. Carlos Boozer grabbed 15 boards and Kwame Brown had 20 of his own to compliment Bryant. The Lakers bench scored 37 points as every player got to play in the match.

"The Lakers are the hottest team right now," Mike Dunleavy stated, "They really showed us up!"

The Warriors received 27 points from Jason Richardson but J-Rich had to work for his points and in the end scored most of them in the fourth quarter when Bryant had already left the game. Derek Fisher added a solid 17 points, 5 assists and Dunleavy Jr. and Troy Murphy scored 12 and 10 respectively.

The Lakers took over early and made sure Golden State trailed by double digits from the beginning of the third quarter. Without giving the opposition any chance to strike back, Bryant did his stuff in the third quarter by going solo and scoring 22 points.

After he scored a three pointer then a three point play to reach the 51 point mark, Bryant came off court with 7:56 left in the game to a standing ovation.

"I'm ready for anyone," Bryant stated after the game, "Bring it on!"

NOTES:

SG Kobe Bryant added a terrible 8 turnovers... The Lakers could face anyone of these four teams in the first round: Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies or Portland Trailblazers... The last game of the season is against the Toronto Raptors... Former GM Will Sit talked to his former Lakers players; Slava Medvedenko, Brian Cook and Chucky Atkins, about life in Golden State as he considers taking a position with the team for next season... Derek Fisher AKA Point Four O was cheered on by Lakers fans last night in his homecoming... Current Record: 20-8 (13-1, 7-7)

Kobe Bryant: A Changed Man?

Marc Stein
ESPN.com

Apr 15 - Was it me or was last night just magical? The final boxscore of Kobe Bryant minus the turnovers was incredible but one doesn't think about how he got there. All they think about is what is there at the end of the game.

51 points and 12 boards. Add his 5 dimes and 4 steals and you have quite a complete player except for the fact that he needed 43 shots to make the 50 points he had. DOn't get it wrong though, he's only just returned from an injury so yes, it's quite ok.

And if it isn't, here's another reason for why it is ok. Anyone notcie his shot selection?

That was what hit me hardest as I watched him burn the hardwood with his quick fakes before he hesistated to take a go at the hoop and opted for the simple J. Since when does Kobe do that? Only 8 of his points came off layups, 2 of those 8 points was a dunk on the fast break. All of his made shots and misses were off jumpers.

Bryant's sudden infactuation with the jumpshot is unforseen. After he came back form his three month absence, maybe the fact that the Lakers were doing well without him got to his mind and he's decided to take more set shots.

A conspiracy theory is that the 6'7" SG has suffered a terrbile side effect from his leg injury. I think maybe he's lost half a step and his jumping ability has actually gotten a bit worse than before. Sure, it will come back but for now, Bryant will be taking the safer approach of not dunking on any opponent he sees.

Kobe obviously has denied everything and simply claims that he has gotten much more wiser and likes to play the game off basketball on the ground. Throughout the last three games, Kobe has used a variety of off-ball screens and off-ball movement to free himself practically all over the court. Then sometimes he posts defenders up and takes a hook shot or jumper. His arsenal of weaponry has increased since he last played his high flying show to the STAPLES crowd.

Even weirder is when he beats the defender off the dribble and tries to pop a jumper off in time and hopes it sinks through the hoop, unfortunately for Kobe, it isn't his most accurate shot and he doesn't make too many. But there is time for improvement.

When MJ returned in his 30's, he converted his play similar to how Kobe has altered his own. Here's the catch, Kobe isn't even 30 yet, he's still athletic and got hops, so why isn't he using it to his own advantage to achieve his potential?

Beats us! Maybe he's scared of getting injured or he just can't do it anymore. Or, the best alternatvie is that he is in his prime in both terms of skill and wisdom!

I think if you were to take on the Clippers role, I meant if they offered you the job, or dbf edit it....pls don't start a new one from scratch....would add to rivalry if you moved hapless Clips into contenders and had Shaun Livingston overshadowing the Pommie Freddie Ratchuk

as for the Cats....I would only change teams after this season if I was to somehow win the championship this season, as unlikely as I think that would be....I would take a Larry Brown attitude and bolt to greener pastures (or whoever offered me a job that off-season)....maybe even make Sit a star  but will be Cats at least the next 2 seasons unless I win title

I'm luvin' it....I will expect regular updates on these 3 rookies, especially my man Bryan Cooper....I'm jumping on the bandwagon early before everyone else

like that you have added stories....if you were a viewer of my dynasty in the early days (season 1) then you might remember that I had stories for my generic rookies....best way to add an "identity" or "character" to what I called the genome ballers....looking forward to the Clippers drafting Cooper :o

Win No. 8 Won by No. 8

Toronto Raptors 107 @ Los Angeles Lakers 119

Image
ABOVE: Kobe Bryant (8) shows fans that he can still play
above the rim with this high flying monster reverse slam

Apr 25, Los Angeles - Kobe Bryant led the red hot Los Angeles Lakers into the playoffs with a 47 point performance. The SG was impressive only a week after a game in which he scored 51 points. This time the guard added 5 rebounds and 6 assists too.

Ron Artest added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists as he benefited from Kobe's explosion with too many open looks. Kwame Brown finished on 20 and 9 through foul trouble and Carlos Boozer had another double double with 12 and 12.

"Kobe is the League MVP for sure," Artest exclaimed, "The people voting need to look into him, he's given us new life in Cali!"

The long season for the Lakers started off slow but it ended fast last night as the Lake Show showed fans what they had learnt from Magic Johnson and his coaching staff.

"21 wins and only 8 losses ain't too bad," Magic said, "The scary thing is that we are going to get better."

The lottery bound Toronto Raptors kept the race close with the Lakers up until the first half, after which Kobe led the charge to break down the Raptors' sync.

"Kobe has this sort of aura that you cannot beat," Jalen Rose, who was guarded by Bryant and forced into a few errors said, "My 20 points were hard to get tonight and I only scored a lot of them without Kobe on me."

Rose finished with 24 points and 8 rebounds and led 5 Raptors in double figures. The disgruntled Vince Carter chipped in 17, 8, Rafer Alston added 20 and Chris Bosh had 17.

"We struggled against the best team in the NBA," Carter said, "The Pistons will have a tough time against them." Carter who recently asked for a trade in the following offseason, didn't look too interested in playing his best ball game in the second last game of his season and possibly Raptors career.

A surprise performance was from rookie Willie Fong who grabbed 12 boards from off the bench. Coach Johnson was surprised that the Raptors had someone like the kid, "He's good, I can tell you that. All he needs is a little seasoning."

Bryant came off court with 10:13 to spare in the game when the Lakers were winning by 22 points. The crowd stood and applauded him and held signs reading, "Return of the Rings." "I appreciate the fans support for me," Bryant responded to a sideline reporter.

NOTES:

The Los Angeles Lakers' first round opponent hasn't been deterined yet, the winner of the game between Memphis and Portland will most likely miss a first round appointment with the Western Conference's best team... Current Record: 21-8 (14-1, 7-7)

WTF! I should be the new coach. When Kobe got put back into the lineup, he just start acting like he could do whatever he wanted and no one could stop him. Since your playing the Grizzlies, I hope they bury Kobe under the bench  I'll say Grizzlies in six :P

EDIT: I will say that you will just win 1 game in the series and the Grizzlies the rest of the way. That's how comfident I am :D Don't let me down Grizz
