THE GAME: GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS vs. SACRAMENTO KINGS

Image Image

It was far from an even game, with the Kings taking charge and leading with double digits as early as in the first quarter, and never looking back after that. Golden State was unable to contain their Pacific division rivals on defense, with Cuttino Mobley having a field day against Jason Richardson’s inadequate defensive efforts, and Brad Miller shooting great percentages from the key, facing a sub-par, on defense, Troy Murphy. Peja Stojakovic was bombing away in crucial points when the Warriors attempted comebacks, and Kenny Thomas’ rebounding was invaluable. From the home side, only Baron Davis seemed to be on the same page as the Kings, but him alone could not make a difference. The Kings win this game easily, 99 – 116.

THE GAME: GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS vs. NEW ORLEANS HORNETS

Image Image

Golden State imitated Sacramento’s play from two days earlier and dominated the struggling ,this season, Hornets, never really feeling any short of pressure from the visitors, resulting in a comfortable victory at home. Baron Davis once again had a fine all-around performance, scoring, passing and stealing, leading the Warriors to a big 20 point lead in the half, thus demolishing all hope for the already demoralized New Orleans team, who is sitting at the bottom of the league right now. Mike Dunleavy’s shooting and Jason Richardson’s dunking extraordinaire provided the cherry on top for the ecstatic Oakland fans, who packed the Arena all the way to the rafters. Jamal Mashburn scored 32, but was the only one from his side remotely trying to do anything. The Warriors win the game easily 103 – 85.

THE GAME: DENVER NUGGETS vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

Image Image

This was a close one. The Warriors started out stronger and took control of the game tempo in the first quarter, with Baron Davis being the dominant figure for the visitors for the third straight game. The second and third quarters saw Golden State maintain their lead, despite constant pressure coming from Carmelo Anthony’s scoring, Earl Boykins’ speed and Marcus Camby’s fervor in blocking shots and rebounding the ball both on offense and defense. In the final period, the Nuggets managed to elevate their game by one more level, and made this game a toe-to-toe contest, with the lead constantly exchanging hands up until the final buzzer. Kenyon Martin was the key for this effort, but Troy Murphy’s emergence as a go-to guy for the Warriors in the final 6 minutes, resulted in Golden State winning this heartbreaker 96 – 98.

POG: BARON DAVIS 26pts – 10ast – 6stl – 11/15 FGs

GAME OF THE DAY:

HOUSTON 118 - LA LAKERS 108 (Tracy McGrady 28pts – 8rebs)

THE GAME: MIAMI HEAT vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

Image Image

This game proved to a lot of doubters that indeed the Golden State Warriors of the 04/05 seasons are for real, and will be a problem for everyone to beat, including the top tier teams of both the Eastern and the Western Conference. The first three quarters were all about the Heat and Shaq. The Diesel’s strength and overwhelming presence on offense in the paint could not be countered by any of the Warriors’ big men, thus he was having an absolute stormer, with 20 points by the end of the half. Eddie Jones seconded the big Aristotle with a fine display of perimeter shooting, and it all seemed to lead towards an easy Miami victory. But it was in the final quarter that Warrior pride kicked in and helped the visitors overthrow a 15 point deficit to even up the contest in a few minutes’ time. Baron Davis once again led the charge, with Troy Murphy and Jason Richardson being the beneficiaries of most of his passes. Shaq was contained by Murphy and by his fatigue, and Golden State managed to surprisingly win the game 97 – 102.

THE GAME: ORLANDO MAGIC vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

ImageImage

This was another close contest that went down to the wire in the final quarter. Baron Davis, as usual, was causing no end of trouble for the home team’s defense, and Stromile’s Swift’s athleticism was equally causing headaches to the opposition’s big men’s despite Dwight Howard’s undisputable, yet unpolished, skills. Defense was the key word for both coaches for the better part of the game, with full court presses exchanging with zonal coverages and so on. Amidst the defensive turmoil, Steve Francis stood out for the Magic and Troy Murphy for the Warriors, making it a toe-to-toe competition all the way to the end buzzer. During the final minutes, Murphy’s consecutive baskets and made free throws turned the tide and handed Golden State another road victory, 83 – 87.

THE GAME : NEW ORLEANS HORNETS vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

ImageImage

This was one weird game… weird indeed… there was some horrid offense to start with, both teams throwing bricks like there was no tomorrow and a demolition derby was being played out, until JR Smith for the Hornets and Stromile Swift for the Warriors started making some shots and partially saving the game of basketball from total disgrace and elementary school level. Jason Richardson started off with 1/10 FGs, but somewhere in the middle of the second quarter something happened to him… and he couldn’t stop scoring. Dunks, three pointers, drives, 3 point plays, four point plays, you name it, the guy was in the zone. Golden State’s offense was simple: The ball to J-Rich, and let’s see how he scores next… It went this way until the end, with the game always pretty close, in th eend being decided by a buzzer beating three pointer by … Jamal Magloire!?!?!?!?. New Orleans wins the game 99 – 96 but still lies bottom of the league.

THE OAKLAND TRIBUNE – February 12, 2006

UNDERACHIEVERS EXCHANGING LOCALES IN CALIFORNIA…

It was announced today by the Warriors front office that the franchise has proceeded in another trade deal, this time involving just two players and the Los Angeles Clippers. Mike Dunleavy Jr. has never proved to be the consistent all-round performer the team expected him to be when he was picked at no 3 overall a few years back coming out of Duke, and will as of tomorrow be playing for the Clippers and his father Mike Sr. In exchange, Golden State receives center Chris Kaman and the Clips’ first round draft pick for this season, which is expected to be somewhere in the 15-25 range. Kaman has underachieved heavily in his one and a half year playing for LA, rotating as a starter and putting up 8ppg and 8rpg so far in the season, occasionally losing minutes in favor of Chris Wilcox. Both teams expect that their new acquisitions will find the move rejuvenating and that they can finally live up to their high draft selection.

Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:57 pm

Nice trade there. Kaman is really solid he will help you a lot. (Y)
