AMERICA - THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY
Will this year's crop of Euros prove doubters wrong?!? I think only time will tell whether these guys will be the next Nowitzki, the next Gasol, the next Tony Parker or the next Skita or Darko. Either way, let's take a look at the under 22 Euros who have decided to throw their names in the draft pool.
WHO'S IN?
Martynas Andriuskevicius (Zalgiris Kaunas)
Andriuskevicius is a projected top 5 pick and couldn't turn the lurn of the NBA any longer as he declared his intentions to enter the draft. At 7'3", skilled and with big upside, he's got plenty of teams hoping for the next Arvydas Sabonis
The team that ends up using a top 5 pick on this Lithuanian will hope that his NBA career is as long as his name
Tiago Splitter (Tau Vitoria)
Europe couldn't hold the immense offensive talent of Tiago Splitter for any longer as he declared for the 2006 Draft. Splitter is a top 10 pick who could move higher with good workouts.
I know he's Brazilian, but he's playing in Europe, so it's as good as
Johan Petro (Pau Orthez)
This athletic French bigman has declared for the draft and figures to be drafted somewhere in the middle of the 1st Round, with the prospect of possibility sliding into the late lottery.
Yes, we are sure teams will be impressed with your wingspan Petro, you can stop showing off now
Rudy Fernandez (Joventut Badalona)
This Spanish combo guard has declared despite having a large contract buyout with his European club team. This could affect his stock and push him down into the late 1st Round. However, someone will overlook the contract issues as Rudy is a superb Euro talent.
First priority for Rudy after getting a guaranteed contract is getting a haircut!!!
WHO'S OUT?
Nemanja Aleksandrov (KK Reflex)
Not declaring was probably a good move for Aleksandrov as it gives him some more time to work on his game. Teams don't want the next project like Skita or Darko. Aleksandrov is only 18 and has a few years to fine tune his game before bringing it to the NBA.
He seems a bit too much like Skita to me, so I'm glad he's gonna wait a while
Andrea Bargnani (Benetton Treviso)
It was a good move for this Italian Nowitzki to wait another year before applying for the draft. If he comes back next season and plays well in Europe, he will secure a certain lottery selection.
Bargnani will get plenty of time to eat more pasta over the next year
Roko-Leni Ukic (KK Split)
All of the NLSC PG's scared off Ukic from declaring this season. Ukic will be draft-eligible next season as he will be 22. Only problem is there are guards like Chris Paul, Raymond Felton and possibly Jarrett Jack and Daniel Gibson ahead of him. Interesting dilemma, but Ukic will be fine.
I think if his frame doesn't scare off potential suitors, then his name definitely will
