Miracle comeback failed
Detroit ended Washingtons winning streak

Imagevs.Image
Washington 102 - - - Detroit 106

[ Box Score ]

The Pistons were playing better basketball right from the start. Just
in two minutes the Wizards fell behind 9-0. The first quarter was a
disaster for the home team. There was no defense whatsoever as
the duo Billups-Hamilton dropped a combined 23 in the period.
Washington's effort to close the cap was unsuccessful, they trailed
by 14 and shot 0/9 outside shooting by the half.

The third period didn't bring any change and Detroit looked to
humiliate the home team under the eyes of all the fans. The main
Washington scorers Hughes, Peeler, Arenas and Jamison were
held to combined 9 pts in the second and third quarter.

But the last period was an other game: the Wizards started a crazy
shooting frenzy and cut the loss to 9 while the clock showed 4.29.
Even though Arenas fouled out soon after, Juan Dixon was the right
man to continue the fight. Dixon, Peeler and Arenas put up 32 out
of the teams 39 points in the closing quarter, outscoring the Pistons
by 15 as they lost 106-102.

“We thought that there's no way that someone could come back 20
points in a quarter, we were shocked and couldn't answer with the
same type of play,” the POTG Rip Hamilton sad. “We were lucky
that they ran out of time.” Washington's coach E. Jordan disagreed.
“That is no way to play a game! You must play 4 periods not just
one. Terrible defense! Especially the guards! You don't want to
know what happened in the locker room at the half, believe me, you
don't want to know...”

Showtime!
Wizards turned it around in the final period

Imagevs.Image
Washington 107 - - Milwaukee 95

[ Box Score ]

Milwaukee came to the game only one though in mind: to equalize
the season series. They started the game with good offensive plays
and looked to pull away, but coach Porter made a mistake by
switching to zone defense. Wizards found the open places and shot
an amazing 8/9 from outside during the zone. Gilbert Arenas scored
14 of his 21 in the first period. Both of the teams shot over 60 percent
from the field. The Bucks pulled back before halftime as Redd
collected 18.

Washington dominated the third in rebounding, but had trouble shooting
from the field (33%). Hughes' great offensive action caused Michael
Redd's foul trouble and Keith van Horn had to take over the scoring.
At the quarter break the teams were at the score 76-75 for the Bucks.
The final period continued the same way. Milwaukee couldn't get
enough rebounds and Wizards' great team play resulted a 10 point
difference to the favor of the home team. Redd finished with “just”
26 points and Arenas was the POTG with a fantastic triple double.
(21pts, 10rebs, 11asts, 4stls)

“We wanted this bad, but could,'t do it without Redd,” said van Horn
who scored 24. “We need to find more scoring options on our team.”
Larry Hughes who finished with 25 said that Washington is still having
some problems. “Too much turnovers! No offense to Gilbert but he's
giving away too much passes and Kwame should play according to
his ball handling skills.” “I'm happy that we are dominating the boards,”
coach Eddie Jordan said. “But i would be much more pleased if we
could block some shots as well, we had none today! Defense could be
better too...”

Wizards end Toronto streak
2 halves, 2 different games

Imagevs.Image
Washington 106 - - Toronto 97

[ Box Score ]

Before this game Toronto was the only team in the NBA without
a loss this season. It seemed to stay so as Morris Peterson and
Jalen Rose led their team to win the first period 33-17. Washington
could do nothing and the fans were making noise, shouting at their
own team. The game settled down in the second and the gap didn't
grow. The Wizards had scored one point more at the half than the
Raptors in the first period. Things looked bad.

Coach E. Jordan decided to give the bench a chance and used
Peeler, Dixon and Ramos along Hughes and Jamison. This was
a great move, because the 5 held the Raptors just to 13 points,
while scoring 29 themselves. The score was 65-63 to Toronto's
favor. By that point the most dominant player was Alonzo Mourning
who had scored 23.

The final period was something totally different, the two teams
lacked of defense and performed great offensively. Gilbert Arenas
scored 25 of his 35 points in the last quarter, mainly threepointers.
The Wizards stopped Toronto 5-game winning streak and now
they are even at 5-1, holding the second place in the league, only
0.5games behind Detroit.

“It had to come at some point,” Toronto's coach Sam Michell said.
“You can't go on winning games forever, even though i thought
that this streak would have lasted a bit longer.”

Arenas neutralized
Wizards defeated the raining champs

Imagevs.Image
San Antonio 80 - - Washington 89

[ Box Score ]

This was a Hardwood Classic as the defending champs Spurs hosted
the Washington Wizards. As always games that include San Antonio
are concentrated on defense and so was this one. The first half had
very low scoring percents. Both of the teams shot around 30 percent
from the field. These two teams are also currently the two weakest
freethrow shooters in the league and that was well seen on the court.
The only player that is worth mentioning in the firs half is Kwame
Brown who dominated the glass by tearing down 11 rebounds.
Besides that these teams were dead-even, tied at 34 at the halftime
buzzer.

The second half started slowly but proved to be far more exciting.
Bruce Bowen took over the scoring on San Antonio's side as he dropped
17 in the third. Washington's Gilbert Arenas answered with 10 points
and 3 assists. Spurs' Tony Parker managed to keep him out rest of
the game. In the fourth the teams battled down to the stretch. With
4.11 remaining the scores were even 78-78. Beyond that the Spurs
had no chance. Jamison was named the player of the game as he led
the the team to the victory scoring 7 of the teams 11 last points.

“I'm glad that Hughes and Jamison were able to support the team
while Arenas was under great defensive pressure,” coach Eddie
Jordan told the reporters. “That's how it's supposed to work!”
Bruce Bowen who finished with 29 points was looking for the cause
of the loss. “Our bench and big men were not doing enough in my
opinion. Can't understand coaches decision to bench Horry either.
He was the only man who could have pulled us back.”

Wizards iced the Jazz
The game was finished in 10 minutes

Imagevs.Image
Washington 113 - - - - Utah 94

[ Box Score ]

The Wizards were surely the better team in this matchup. Utah had
lost most of their games and didn't look to win this one either. Eddie
Jordan decided to start with a full court press right away and the
Wizards went quickly ahead 11-2. The Jazz couldn't pull it together
and lost the period 35-15. Only Howard Eisley, who entered the game
late in the first, could do some damage by scoring 7 consecutive points.

During the second quarter the game sowed down and the players took
it easy. Only Mehmed Okur managed to foul out at 12:25. Both of the
teams shot over 50% from the field as they tied the quarter 26 each.
By the half the key players were Carlos Arroyo with 10 points and
Gilbert Arenas with 17 Points and 4 assists.

The third period didn't bring any change, even though Jazz pulled back
by five Washington rebuilt the 20-point lead early in the fourth quarter.
The game ended with a buzzer-beater, that didn't decide anything by
Gilbert Arenas. Washington's two starting guards finished with a total
of 20 assists as they won the game by 19. The scoring leaders were
Arenas with 31 and Arroyo with 28. Boozer was the best rebounder
with 17.

“It hasn't been a great season to us,” said Utah's Jerry Sloan. “I have
to try to change some things inside the team. The AK47 is shooting
blanks and Matt Harpring is out with an injury, we need some new players
to step up...”

Rumours Around the League
SA and Washington consulting a trade

There's a rumour circling the league that Washington an San Antonio
are disgussing a deal envolving 4 players including the multiple NBA
champion Robert Horry who has complained about his game minutes
at San Antonio. Washington is known for its outside shooting, so the
sharpshooter would fit the team perfectly.Further details to come...

Wizards keep on winning
Antoine Walker had a bad day

Imagevs.Image
Washington 89 - -- - Atlanta 80

[ Box Score ]

Heading into this game the Hawks were clearly the weaker side. Then again
anything is possible. The match had a slow beginning as Washington was
clearly dominating in defense: Atlanta made 9 turnovers in the first period.
This meant a combined 7 steals for Washington's guards Dixon and Arenas.
Antawn Jamison overplayed his defender Antoine Walker repeatedly and
caused his early foul-trouble. With Walker on the bench, Atlanta's' only
player who could do some damage was Ivey, who scored 7 in the first.

The second quarter started with big offensive pressure by the Wizards,
who opened a early 11-point lead. But the last 4 minutes were a disaster for
the home team as the Hawks outscored them 14-4. They key players were
Brendan Haywood with 10 points and 4 rebounds and Royal Ivey with
9 points and 3 steals.

The third period didn't bring a breakthrough on neither side. Antoine Walker
returned to the court and earned a quick foul twice, he couldn't help the
Hawks tonight.

The Wizards started the final quarter with a 9-0 run and took the lead for
good. The last 10 minutes were hopeless for the Hawks as they lost the
rebounding 7-15. Larry Hughes ended the game with a final second
3-pointer. Nobody scored over 20 points and the player of the game was
once again Washington's Gilbert Arenas (11pts, 8rebs, 6asts, 5stls) who
is still having trouble with turnovers.

Antoine Walker refused to answer any questions at the press conference,
but his teammates backed him up. “He just had a tough game, could have
happened to anyone of us,” initiated Tony Delk. “These things happen...”
On Washington's side the main story was about the trade with the Spurs.
Read all about it here.

Transactions
5 time champ to DC

Just few moments after the game between Atlanta and Washington the NBA
has accepted the trade that sends former Wizards Steve Blake and Michael Ruffin
to San Antonio for forwards Robbert Horry and Linton Johnson. Robert Horry and
Scottie Pippen are the only two active players with five-or-more NBA Championships
(Horry has five while Pippen has six). Horry ranks second in NBA Finals history in
career 3PT-FG made with 38 (Michael Jordan leads with 42) and set an NBA Finals
record for most steals in a game with 7 against the Orlando Magic in Game 2 of the
1995 NBA Finals. He'll wear the no.6 jersey, as a reminder that he won't settle with
five rings. “Washington is clearly a great team this season and a probable champion-
ship contender,” told Horry about his new team. “We have a young team, we need
some veterans around to make the team more stable. Horry is a fantastic player and
hopefully we can get him his 6th ring.” explained Washington's Eddie Jordan. “The
season has just begun and nothing is sure. We have almost 50 games to go, plus the
playoffs, as we hope, anything can happen....”

Trouble in Houston
T-mac and Yao out for weeks

The Houston Rockets are in a very difficult situation heading into December.
Both of their main guys are out for a few weeks. Cender Yao Ming sprained
his elbow against the Grizzlies on 28th November and Tracy Mcgrady broke
a bone in his foot in a overtime 118-115 victory over the Portland Trailblazers.
The team is currently shearing the first and the second place in the western
conference, tied with the Sacramento Kings at 10 victories and 4 defeats.
Thanks to the new shortened season Yao will only miss 4 games (one of them
is already played) and T-Mac will miss 11, including the ones against top teams
like the Washington Wizards and the Dallas Mavericks.

Mcgrady has been averaging 22.4 points, 6 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 2.21 steals
per game while Yao's had 20.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Jeff Van Gundy
has to prove that the team can also win without their star-players. “It's going to
be a real test to me and the players,” he said. “Players like Howard and Sura must
step up or otherwise we can't hold the conference lead.

The Heat was off
Shaq didn't have enough help from his temmates

Imagevs.Image
- Miami 80 - - - - - Washington 93

[ Box Score ]

This was the first meeting between these two teams this season and they
both are counting on making it to the playoffs. The teams were very
evenly matched according the stats even though Miami had lost three more
games. Shaq was dominant from the beginning as he scored 9 points, took
4 rebonds and blocked 3 shots in the first quarter. Kwame Brown was the
best player on Washington's side with 10 points. The second period continued
by the same storyline as the Wizards managed to keep a one point lead at
the half.

Miami lost its chance to win in the third as the Wizards outscored them
32-21, mostly thanks to the consecutive trips to the freetrow-line. Jones was
injured late in the third period but was sent back on court in the fourth. Shaq
had 20 and Jamison had 21 as they started the final quarter. The Wizards held
he lead to the end, without any real threats by Miami. This one was more
of a defense-orientated period, the teams scored only a combined 33 points.
Shaq finished with 26 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks. The POTG was
Washington's Antawn Jamison who scored 27, Arenas led the team in assists
and steals. Washington's newest member Robert Horry finished with 11 points
and 7 boards.

“I was i n great form tonight,” said Shaquille O'Neal. “The guys should pass
me the rock to the low post more often. Haywood couldn't stop me!” His
former Laker teammate Robert Horry was happy with his performance.
“I haven't had so much playtime for a while, but Eddie Jordan allowed me to
show my skills tonight, I hope the minutes keep on coming.”

Wizards keep the Pacers out of touch
Jamison playing great in December

Imagevs.Image
Washington 84 - - - Indiana 74

[ Box Score ]

Washington was expected to win this one for sure. Indiana has not been
one of the top teams this season and we could see that as the Wizards
opened the game with a 7-0 run. The gap grew and shrunk but the Indiana
Pacers could not take the lead, Washington never looked back again. Jeff
Foster had a minor leg injury early in the game but he returned for the
second period. Antawn Jamison and Larry Hughes led their team through
the first two periods and Washington grew its lead to 9.

The Second period started with low scores, neither of the teams could use
the weaknesses of their opponent and the difference stayed at nine. The player
to lead the team to the victory was for the second game in a row Antawn
Jamison who dropped 12 in the closing quarter as the Wizards won 84-74.
Robert Horry who scored only 13 points and took 2 rebounds for the San
Antonio Spurs in 7 games playing 6.9 minutes per game has been averaging
9.5 points per game and 5 rebounds per game for the Washington Wizards
in 15.5 minutes.

“I'm glad that he fits the team!” said coach Eddie Jordan. “Every player in
the tam makes us complete, even the guys who don't get that much play-
time.”

Minnesota stops Washington's streak
The Wizards had no magic

-- Imagevs.Image
Washington 74 - - - - Minnesota 90

[ Box Score n/a ]

Kevin Garnett's Timberwolves have had a difficult start to the season.
They were only 8-7 heading into this game. Minnesota put on the early
pressure and started the game with a 7-0 run. Washington's efforts to pull
back in the first didn't pay off as Latrell Spreewell kept his team ahead
with his 3 consecutive 3-pointers late in the period.

The Wizards still had a good chance before the halftime break thank to
Gilbert Arenas who was finding his teammates in open space and
managed to score 7 points himself. Big part of Washington's success
was the second quarter dominance in rebounds (15-6). They were trailing
with only 4 points.

The third period was totally different. The Wolves dominated in defense
and allowed the Wizards to score only 17 points as they scored 28. With
a 15-point difference before the closing quarter the game seemed to be
over.

The Wizards started the period with a dramatic 13-2 run, but that was
all they had left. They managed to score only 6 in the last 6 minutes
and Minnesota won the quarter 20-19 and the game 90-74. Even though
KG scored only 9 points he was the POTG with 12 boards, 6 blocks,
4 assists and 2 steals. Washington shot only 32% from the field compared
to Minnesota's 45%. None of Washington's players scored over 15 points.

Laterll Spreewell who finished with 29 was surprised with the result.
“I thought it would be a bit more closer game. They were one of two
teams in the league who had lost only a game, but we must have caught
them on a bad day.” Antawn Jamison explained the loss. “It's natural to
win some, lose some, we just had a bad shooting day.”

Note: Due to technical problems at the MCI Center we cannot provide you with
any pictures from the game nor the box score. Sorry for the inconveniences!
