Phoenix Starts the Season Hot
The 76ers shooting woes continued against the Suns

Iverson was held to 5-18 shooting and scored only 15 points

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (AP) -- The Philadelphia 76ers shooting woes continued tonight against the Phoenix Suns who just kept shooting lights out from the field. The Sixers were only able to shoot 38% from the field, while their star player Allen Iverson only shot 5-18 from the field.

The turning point in the game came in the 2nd half where the Suns went on a series of a runs to close out each of the two quarters. At the end of the 3rd quarter, Phoenix outscored the Sixers 29-14. "We just come alive in the 2nd half for some reason. I guess it's because we get to talk about what we do wrong in the locker room and we communicate well," Suns forward Amare Stoudemire said.

Shawn Marion hurt the Sixers in all kind of ways as he finished with a game-high 34 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the game. Despite him being in early foul trouble, he still played 42 minutes in the game and shot 13-26 from the field. "He was tough to guard I must admit. His length is what makes it so hard for you to guard him and his jumping ability," Sixers forward Kenny Thomas said after the game.

The matchup between the two PG's, Steve Nash and Allen Iverson went Nash's way as he lit the Sixers defense up for 26 points, dished out 10 assists and only 1 turnover. The Suns starting lineup scored 101 of the Suns 109 points in the game. This team is starting to look alot like the Mavs team that started the season 25-2 with Nash running the point with that team. The Suns continue their road trip tomorrow against Jason Kidd and the New Jersey Nets.

SUNS VS. NETS
Continental Airlines Center, East Rutherford, 5:00 p.m., PST

TV, radio: UPN 45; KTAR 620
Records: Suns, 2-0; Sixers, 0-2

KEY MATCHUP: SUNS BACKCOURT VS. NETS BACKCOURT
The Nets have a backcourt of Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and also Richard Jefferson at the SF spot. That trio can put up big time numbers and they will have another trio who is also great and putting up big numbers. Steve Nash, Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson will be on the other side. The Nets trio combined for a total of 64ppg for the Nets who averaged 93.5ppg in their first two games. The Suns backcourt is averaging 57ppg as Phoenix is averaging nearly 115ppg in their first two games. This should be a lightning fast game.

INSIDE THE SUNS
The Suns are off to an early 2-0 start getting wins over the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers. The starting five of the Suns are chunking in alot of points with Nash leading the way with 27ppg and 11apg. Shawn Marion is 2nd on the team in scoring with 23.5ppg and 11rpg. The Nets team should be able to keep up wtih the speed of the Suns in tonight's game.

INSIDE THE NETS
The Nets are 0-2 for the season. They have lost to the Miami Heat in their home opener 96-93, then they went to Chicago and lost to the Bulls in a 101-94 affair. The trio of Kidd, Jefferson and Carter have produced for at least 70% of the Nets scoring. Jefferson is averaging a career best 25ppg and 9.5rpg, while Carter is averaging 21ppg and 5apg. Kidd is having a good start to his season, averaging 18ppg, 7rpg and 5.5apg.

Suns Defense Works Wonders
Phoenix was able to hold another star player way under their average

ImageSuns-93

Stoudemire posteriziing Kristic and Kidd for two of his 27 points

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ. (AP) -- Jason Kidd had his worse game of the season thus far against the Phoenix Suns, who defensive efforts continued to glow tonight. The Suns held the New Jersey Nets to 77 points, and star PG Jason Kidd was only able to score 8 points and dish out 2 assists. Steve Nash, who is having a great year, was able to hold Allen Iverson to only 15 points the other night and this could be the new era for a better defensive player in Nash.

Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson did most of the damage to the Suns, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 17-point deficit late in the game. Jefferson and Carter combined for 48 points, 21 rebounds and 12 assists. "They are a very athletic duo, and they can do alot damage to you if your not careful. Luckily, we were able to lock down Kidd and our player were able to put up the big numbers that they have been doing," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said after the game.

Amare Stoudemire led the Suns in the scoring and rebounds with 27 points and 12 rebounds. "There was nobody in the post that could guard Amare. He basically had a field day tonight," Suns forward Quentin Richardson said. Nets rookie, Nenard Kristic was guarding Stoudemire the majority of the game, and he didn't do a very good job as Stoudemire shot 12-19 from the field. Kristic was able to put up 9 points and 6 rebounds in the Nets loss.

The Suns were able to start the game off hot for the first time this season as they scored 31 points in the first quarter. "This is something that we have been trying to do since the start of the season. We finally did it and we really needed to have a high score at the beginning of the game to set the tone for us because we know how athletic the Nets backcourt is," Mike D'Antoni stated at the press conference. Phoenix did attend to slow down after that first quarter and shot just 42% from the field in the game and 4-14 from downtown.

Phoenix will host the Chicago Bulls on November 9th after taking a two day break. This will be the Suns 3rd game of their 4 game road trip which they are now 2-0.

GAME NOTES:New Jersey Nets F/C Jason Collins did not play. He was probable before the game with a sprained finger and Lawerence Frank decided to sit him out for the game to keep him from recieving an even worse injury. Lonny Baxter started in Collins placed who scored 5 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 33 minutes of play. The Suns shot 95% from the free throw line which was 20-21. New Jersey only shot 13-21 (61%) from the line.

nope, dont need to and i dont want it to really spoil the fun because i want to see how well i can do with a real life roster. that's something i just like in dynasties when teams keep their roster that they had from the start. if i make any moves, it will have to be a move that the suns made in real life.

SUNS VS. BULLS
United Center, Chicago, 5:00 p.m., PST

TV, radio: UPN 45; KTAR 620
Records: Suns, 3-0; Bulls, 2-0

KEY MATCHUP: AMARE STOUDEMIRE VS. TYSON CHANDLER
Stoudemire will be matched up with probably his first real challenge so far in the season. Amare has went through Kevin Willis, Samuel Dalembert and Nenard Kristic. Tonight, it will be Tyson Chandler who is starting in place of the injured Eddy Curry who was hurt in the Bulls season opener against the Nets with a sprained ankle. Chandler is averaging 7.5ppg and 5.0rpg in the Bulls two games, while Stoudemire is averaging 21.3ppg and 9.7rpg.

INSIDE THE SUNS
The Suns are 3-0 for the season and are playing some of the best basketball in the league. They are coming off a 94-77 win over the Nets and their opponents are averaging just 77.3ppg against them. They were able to lock down Jason Kidd and Allen Iverson a couple of nights ago in back-to-back contests.

INSIDE THE BULLS
The Bulls are off to a good start with a 2-0 record. Chicago's rookie, Ben Gorodon is leading the team in scoring with 17ppg and 4rpg, while there other rookie, Luol Deng is averaging 14.5ppg and 9.5rpg. This young team could be going places this season and are doing fairly well without their starting center Eddy Curry.
