I dunno, sometime in the future....life has been pretty tumultuous on many fronts the last week or two, so haven't really played Live in the last couple of weeks....

EDIT: I forgot to add the NLSC-ers who are amongst the league leaders. Check out the following link to go to see who ranks with the best in their respective categories.

ROOKIE WATCH (FEBRUARY '07)

This is a section that will highlight the different plights of a rookie in the NBA. The time around we take a look at one of the elite rookies, Oklahoma City & Africa's Vince Dehere & Rudy Gay are ripping it up for their respective teams, we cross to Texas to check on an unheralded rookie who is slowly trying to make a name for himself.

SG- Vince Dehere, 6'5", 248lbs, Tunisia (2nd pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by New Orleans-Oklahoma City Hornets)

Image
He's a beast on the inside & on the outside. How do you guard this guy?!?

Image
Dehere's statline against the Portland Trailblazers

Most casual basketball fans hadn't heard of Vince Dehere even a few weeks out from last year's draft. Rest assured, they all know who he is now. Dehere, who saw his stock rise from a 1st Round project in 2005 to a lock in the lottery over the space of one year may have surprised even himself when he rose up to the No. 2 overall spot in the draft, a spot that signifies that the team that selected him (Hornets) believe he can be a franchise player. Whilst he might have been highly coveted by many teams in the top half of the lottery, no one could have really expected Dehere to have the effect that he has already had in his young & blossoming NBA career. Dehere already leads his team in scoring, steals & 3pt proficiency, as well as being 2nd in the team in assists & 3rd on the team in rebounds. Dehere is an outstanding outside shooter & the Hornets knew that, but it's his ability to change a game at both ends of the court that the Hornets like the best. In January against the Portland Trailblazers, Dehere showed what an impact he has on his team as he kept the Hornets in the game, & it looked like he would lead them to the victory before he fouled out, & the Hornets coincidently seemed to fall apart. Coincidence I think not, Dehere is a future star in the making. Some already believe he is a star. Let's just say there is a lot of beaming smiles in Tunisia.

Vince Dehere's 2006/07 Stats:
17.0ppg, 3.9rpg, 3.apg, 2.05spg, 42.0% FG, 45.3% 3pt, 54.3% FT
13.90 NBA Efficiency Rating
11.00 Raw Birdie Score
11.00 Weighted Birdie Score

V. Dehere is currently playing similar to Earl Monroe 's 1978-79 season.

Earl Monroe's 1978-79 stats:
12.3ppg, 1.2rpg, 3.0apg, 0.8spg, 0.1bpg
11.00 Weighted Birdie Score

PLAY OF THE TRIMESTER (FEB '07)

Image
Once again Darius Miles gets the Play of the Trimester. But this time it's a team effort. Sebastian Telfair came up with the loose ball, dished the no look feed to a streaking Monta Ellis on the wing. Ellis took the ball to near the elbow & found a gazelle in Darius Miles for the alleyoop. The only problem was that Ellis threw a poor alleyoop pass, but it didn't bother Miles who somehow managed to do a 360 degree turn in the air to finish the unbelievable play

That's all I'm gonna do for the Trimester coverage guys. Sorry it took so long inbetween updates, but it couldn't be helped. Either way, I hope you enjoy.

Cheers

he got drafted No. 2 overall, I picked at 5  he was at the top of my draft board, but well gone by the time I picked, so if he was around, I would've grabbed him  plus I didn't want to be cheesey & screw the Hornets....I also like to see future stars rise on opposing teams....let's hope we can have some playoff battles, Martell vs Vince

I was reading this dynasty all the time, but never commented.
It's great how you do this with all the details, I esp like the player statline feature.
But Blazers need wins! Come on, 9-13 record is not well enough, as you are in the second year :P

Nice coverage, Dehere seems to be a great No 2, but lets see how his stats will compare to one of the top projected players in my dynasty, 7'4" SG  cant wait to see him play

cheers man, glad you like some of the features....statline will definitely stay as it seems to be popular

as for my record, you sim 2/3 of your games & see how a team like mine will end up   I'm going to be trying hard for the playoffs but if you look at my record, it really is a pretty realistic goal for the Blazers next season IRL

if I don't make the playoff this year [X enters 'Sheed mode], I will guarantee everybody that next season I will be in the playoffs :mrt:

Jugs wrote:Wow nice alley-oop.. and Vince Dehere and I share the same number, that is why he's good 8-) 8-)

yep, I would've worn #25 in my league had they let me (we can only wear #4-#15 like international ball)....and yep, Vince is nice....he's no Terry Dehere, that's for sure

Sit wrote:Well.. i know you had the no 1 pick up ur sleeve X! :D

yep, Isiah gave it to me in the David Lee deal....sounds like something he would do

oh know, please don't let that be Sit....I will be disappointed if Sit does that to your dynasty :shake:

if it's for real generic styles, then I'm interested in his development

great Coverage about V. Dehere (Y)
maybe u should have your next Rookie watch on Rudy Gay ;)

he's doing fine in the dynasty as well, and maybe you should do a little comparison of the Top Rookies, it's an interesting Rookie year....

...but nothing against next year... when a player like F. Ruf will be available in the draft xD

lookin forward to some more updates, it's just great as usual :D

usually my Rookie Watch revolves around someone who burns me & is doing well or better than expected....as for the comparison of Top Rookies, I thought about that, & may implement it in the future....maybe next season....who knows....

for those who missed....

Vince Dehere's '06 scouting report:

VINCE DEHERE - SG/PG, 6'5", 248lbs (TOP 5 PICK)

First of all I would like to dispel any misconceptions, Vince Dehere is NO relation to former NBA guard Terry Dehere. Vince Dehere is an absolute animal, he really should be applying for the NFL Draft, not the NBA's. He's got a big body, and can easily handle the vigours of the NBA game. Many would expect a player of his size to be a SF, but not this kid. He's a true combo guard. He's a phenomenal shooter, with his range extending the full 25 feet. He can also handle the rock and dish it out. With his size and skill sets, I can already see this guy causes serious mismatches at both ends of the court. Dehere is the fastest guy around and could struggle defensively against some of the guards, but he has a very quick first step which more than makes up for it to help him get his shot off. His stock with NBA scouts is just soaring at the moment, and I think come draft time, you will probably see him get drafted in the middle of the lottery, and possibly as high as No. 5 or No. 6. Definitely a player to watch out for in the future.

Best Case Scenario - Ron Artest (more stable version & with guard skills)
Worst Case Scenario - Terry Dehere meets Kirk Synder

Most Likely Scenario - Luol Deng (with more ball handling skills)

Damn, looking at the best case scenario, Dehere could definitely do that :o

and his pre-draft workout:

2006 OFF-SEASON COVERAGE

PRE-DRAFT WORKOUTS

WORKOUT 3 - VINCE DEHERE, SG/PG , 6'5", 248lbs, Tunisia (Projected Top 5 pick)

The next player brought in is a bit of an enigma. Vince Dehere, out of Tunisia, has been playing in the Spanish League for the last couple of seasons but has been buried deep on the bench. However this past season, his club team has been force to play him, & he has shined in a big way, showing a shooter's touch not seen too often, especially not from an African prospect. What's even better, he has a low buyout on his contract & he is deemed to have some upside left due to the fact he's been hidden so long. The Blazers need all the shooters they can get at the moment, so it will be interesting to see how he works out.

Dehere was matched up with starting SG Morris Peterson to see if he could hang with a veteran. The game started out with Dehere hitting 2 straight treys to lead 4-0.

Image
His pure shooting touch from long range was a thing of beauty as he rivals J.J. Redick in marksmanship

Morris Peterson fought back strongly uses his strong on-the-ball defense & ability to swipe the ball to get back into the contest. For the rest of the contest these guys went head-to-head, both showing strong play. Dehere & Mo battled clutch play after clutch play.

Image
Don't leave him open Mo or you'll pay

In the end, Morris Peterson got the better of Vince Dehere, winning in sudden death, 14-12.

Whilst his on-the-ball defense probably needs some work, his toughness in all other aspects & shooting ability were a thing of marvel. The Blazers' staff left the workout enamoured with this random guy from Tunisia.

Workout Rankings:

1st SG/PG- Vince Dehere - his shooting ability & tenacity made him the most impressive workout, & if selected, I can see him becoming a favourite of Nate McMillan
