Indiana beats Charlotte 93-88
Indianapolis, Feb. 9(Ticker) –
Jermaine O’Neal had an unbelievable night. He scored 29 points and getting 22 rebounds. If he didn’t play like an MVP tonight the Pacers would have lost.
“I played very well tonight. My teammates did a great job too and we were ableto beat a very good team” – said Jermaine.
Even though one of their stars –
Ron Artest
was out with an injury, the Pacers did a great job on defensive end.
The first quarter went very quietly. The only big score was
Brevin Knight’s bank at the buzzer from about 14 feet. Knight had an off game with 4 assists and 6 points.
“I don’t know what happened to me. I wasn’t playing my best, and maybe that’s the reason we lost tonight” – said Knight.
The Bobcats played very well in the 2nd.
Peja Stojakovic’s back to back 3’s made the Pacers take a time out. Right after that TO, JO started to play very well.
In the 3rd Jermaine probably had one of his best quarters f his career, scoring 16 out of his 29 points, and making a statement on defense.
“Jermaine [O’Neal] did a great job. He covered me very well and I couldn’t get good shots” – said
Emeka Okafor who scored 10 points and got 15 rebounds.
Peja Stojakovic scored 14 points of his 36 in 4th quarter, but that didn’t help the Bobcats much. The Pacers and the Bobcats were very close in the 4th quarter going toe to toe. In the end the Pacers got a 3 point lead after Jamaal Tinsley made a basket from the corner of the free throw zone. Bobcats head coach
Ivan Shchipansky didn’t take a time out with 35 secs left in the 4th and told the ‘Cats to make a good play.
“I was expecting the pacers to get nervous on defense and fail to make a good defensive play and we can make a 3” – said Shchipansky.
But the Pacers showed that they will not get nervous and the y made the Bobcats. Even though the pacers double-teamed Peja and he pitched it out t Raymond Felton, rook failed to connect on the game tying 3. With 1.5 secs left the Bobcats fouled O’Neal expecting him to miss, but Jermaine made both Free Throws and put the ending sentence in the game.
The Bobcats are now 3rd in the East with a record of 12-4 and go on the break with an All Star game coming February 19th. Pacers are now 12-7.
5 players on the Pacers scored 10 or more points.
Jonathan Bender proved again he was a bust in the draft getting 0 points and 8 rebounds.
Quentin Richardson was the 2nd highest scoring man for the ‘Cats with 14 points, but he only shot 1 for 7 from downtown.
The Pacers got .450 from FG, whilst Charlotte only got .333.
The Player of the Game Award went to Jermaine O’Neal.
