Who here is not buying live 09

Postby totally24 on Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:02 pm

Im disappointed
i bought live 08 thinking it was gonna be great
and im really disappointed... and i look on the videos on youtube of nba 2k8 and it is way better than live...more realistic
ive bought live every year since 03
and now i think im gonna switch over to 2k9
im gonna have to play both demos to officially make up my mind but who here is not buying live 09?

I'll be getting the game but then I've played an early version of it so I've got an idea of what to expect. Anyone who's sitting on the fence, I'd definitely recommend trying out the demos to see which you like best and if you're still unsure, spend a few bucks to rent the games before you spend even more to buy them. If you can get some hands on experience to try before you buy, it's a lot better than simply watching videos.

I'll be checking it out at E for All before I make a decision. Hopefully I will get some time with NBA 2K9 as well, if it's on display. If not, I will have to get a membership at gamefly or something and rent it.

I voted that I probably wouldn't be getting it....first & foremost, they have 24 FIBA teams & they shaft the No. 12 team in the World, New Zealand....I'd like EA to give me one good "basketball" reason for not including them....if the game is rated high 80's to 90's, then I'd probably take a spin on it, otherwise I'll wait until Live '10....

We don't have to play it. We can tell by playing 08, 07, 06, and 05. And since they are suck, we can see a trend.

Indeed, not everyone is of that opinion. In any event though I think totally24 was referring to being disappointed in NBA Live 08 and thus not enthusiastic about NBA Live 09.

Just by the video alone you can tell they improved the hell out of this game. . I don't think you can compare it to 07 and 06. It looks a million times better!!!

There is probably a 99.9% chance I will be getting some version of the game. The question for me is: Will it be PS3, PC/DVD (now that the word seems to be that there will be a PC platform), or both.

The graphics on the next gen consoles are addictive; however, the patching for the computer is superb.

I just finished using Finals Challenge patch graciously provided by a forum member: '87 Rockets vs '86 Celtics @ the old Boston Garden. Man, how can you give that up? :)

Probably not. The demo would really have to impress me alot, that I would choose it over 2k9.

theres hasnt really been any 2k9 videos out so u can tell how there graphics are gonna be but its only gonna improve

i just hope live fixes this

Totally24,

What if Live '09 has decent gameplay? Then would you consider getting it? Or are you pretty much set on 2K9 and waiting to see what next year brings in terms of NBA Live 2010?

I understand about the whole gameplay thing. Without decent gameplay, a game just falls apart, no matter how great the graphics are.

I don't think you understood my post over in the NBA Live 08 section. Peter Moore is talking about returning to the PC next year, not this year. NBA Live 09 will not be coming out on the PC.

You're entitled to your opinion but I'm not sure how anyone can judge how smooth the gameplay feels just by watching a video, since most videos are user vs user or user vs CPU so you're not necessarily seeing the game played particularly well.

PC fans should be optimistic for them taking a year off. EA probably has something in store for those who play on PC. I wouldn't be suprised if they improve the entire game drastically

A lot of longtime posters have made the switch to 2K in recent years. Perhaps the demo will win over a few people though.

I consider myself a 2k player now, but after their decision to ditch college hoops series (2k8 is a superb title that I will continue playing for a long time), I have very little reason to continue playing 2k sports titles....so I'm more willing to give EA another chance....although it's likely going to be the last chance....so as a former NBA Live nut (still my favourite gaming memories are from Live '95 through '99, as well as solid game around Live '04 & '05), they will get a chance....although I'm thinking I might hold out on giving them that last chance until they put a stunning bball simulation, one that will give me no choice but to buy the game, so that unfortunately might not be for another year or three....

No, I did not understand your post. I was too pumped from mistakenly thinking there was going to be a PC 09. I guess this makes my choice a whole hell of a lot easier.

The only experience I have w/2k and Live is the 07 version of both games. As I have said in other posts, the 07 graphics on PS2 look like something that popped out of a Wayback Machine. The graphics for the 2k on PS2 are really not that bad. I think a comparison of the two will be interesting. I would even consider buying both games. The 2k controller is a little too involved for me- it reminds me of Madden. I like the simplicity of the Live controller.

I'd definitely recommend getting the PS3 demo when it come out, if nothing else you'll find out how close it is to being the game that you want (which it may not be, not everyone has the same expectations after all).

That too, you'd be able to check it out in more detail if you did that. The demo of course is sooner and free. ;)
