Do We Have a Passionate Community?

Postby Beatboxer on Sat Jul 26, 2008 9:46 am

I really wonder if we have a passionate NBA Live community.
Look at this NBA 2K site:

This section has been quieter than I would have anticipated given that the previews are starting to come out and I thought there'd be more questions after I posted my Community Day reports, I'm not sure if that's due to the length of the reports as I wanted to go into as much detail as possible this year or because there's a lack of interest given there's no PC release.

However, having said that I think we do have a passionate community, I think as a community we have become a bit cynical and we certainly are critical but that's not a bad thing as it's important we speak our minds honestly and constructively. Some people might not be as passionate as they used to be but given all the patches and the Forum activity when the game is released I would say we still have a passionate community.

I think that this community is very passionate about NBA Live and definitely looks forward to each release. I tend to agree that the decision by EA to not include a PC release of this year's game was definitely a major disappointment since many (including myself) still play NBA Live on the PC, whether it is '08, '07, or one of the earlier releases.

With the announcement of the NBA Live PC Project to revitalize NBA Live '06, I would say has bouyed the community's spirits a bit, and the new Dynamic DNA/Live 365 feature in the 360/PS3 game certainly has generated some excitement, but I think that the general reaction is mixed because of the recent disappoinments of past versions of the game.

I can't speak for everyone on here (and I certainly am not qualified to do that) but, in my humble opinion, I think that many here who still are active on the forums and our NBA Live community as a whole are to the point where we won't accept anything less than a good NBA Live game that not only looks good, but plays well with a minimum of bugs or glitches.

I am actually new to playing NBA Live on the PC, although I've been playing NBA Live games through the years, mostly on consoles. Thanks to the patchers, to guys Andrew, JaoSming, and the rest of the many community "veterans," I've discovered that my favorite basketball game series of all time is actually a fun experience on the PC as it is on consoles.

Even though I made the leap to "next-gen" with PS3, I anticipate that I will still continue to play NBA Live on PC, especially with the PC Project in regards to NBA Live '06.

As much as I am looking forward to NBA Live '09 so I can play it on PS3, I'm also very excited for NBA Live Project for PC as well as future plans that will keep me playing NBA Live on PC, regardless of whether EA decides to bring back the game to the PC.

Am I passionate about NBA Live? You bet I am. Do we have a community that is passionate about all things NBA Live? Maybe not in an outward, vocal way, but I think that everyone here cares about NBA Live and takes some enjoyment out of it.

For the most part we're not passionate in a "fanboy" sense which as I said before is for the best as it does us no favours if we're not prepared to give honest feedback, though we may be somewhat cynical at times.

What's up NLSC, new to the board !!!!!!!!!!

Postby qwomack74 on Thu Jul 31, 2008 2:43 am

Hey everyone! New to the board, but not new to Live. Iv'e been playing since Lakers vs. Celtics. I have bought Live EVERY year. Last year I did also purchase 2k8. (no flames please) I am passionate about this game and look forward to 09. Looks like EA stepped up their game a little. Can't wait to see what this year holds! Glad to be part of the board.

Welcome to the Forum, hope you enjoy your stay. :) Don't worry about playing 2K8, a lot of people on the boards have chosen to go with 2K in recent years or give both games a try,

Yeah. I've been playing live and doing dynasties since like 98, but I switched over to 2K8 for this year because PC's Live was beyond horrendous. However like many I look forward to the next installment of Live in hope that they fixed all the things that made Live 08 suck.

In response to the community, it's very passionate, otherwise you wouldn't find all these patchers putting so much time to help not only themselves but others as well.

I don't have experience with the PC version, but I have heard "not-so-good" things about it. I am looking forward to the DNA feature this year. IMO it is something long waited and overdue.

You heard correctly, the last two PC releases have definitely been disapointing.

Andrew is right, qwomack74. However, with that being said, there is still hope that with the recent announcement that NBA Live will make its return to PC gaming next year, that we will finally get a game that is worth playing. (All I want for PC is a 360/PC port of NBA Live). Time will tell.

I have a good feeling about that. Presumably the online features that they're ironing out for the PC platform include NBA Live 365, which would point to a 360/PS3 port. It wouldn't be much of a "reboot" if they just went back to porting the PS2 version either.

All good things come..........

Postby qwomack74 on Sat Aug 02, 2008 2:10 am

I agree with you about waiting till next year and getting a product that is enjoyable. I know that the market seems to dictate that every year that we need a new version of a game. With the exception of some years, IMO, it just seems like consumers are paying for a couple of new features and a roster. (This year seems to have the next step feel in development) I know for me, getting the rookies for that year, makes the game play fun and realistic. I think with the advances that gaming has made (development, internet, and just the fact that money is tighter now a days....lol) making a quality game and then waiting two or even three years to sell another one is not a bad idea. Giving the developers time to make a game gives them freedom and time to give the consumer what they really want. In the time between the games give the consumers player updates that will hold them off until the game is released. I for one would even PAY a small monetary amount for the update. I think with the implementation of Live 365 EA has this concept in mind, which is a step in the right direction.

But hey, I'm just a gamer, and I could be wrong.........

On some level, I think the basic year-to-year updates are a strong enough selling point, so even if NBA Live could ever get to the point where 90% of the people who play it love it and have very few complaints, I think an annual game would continue to sell because there's always something else they could do as well as the seasonal update.
