"You can explode left or right to try and get to the rim. Defensively, if you are able to jump in front of him on his first step you get a body on him and force him away from the hoop. If you guess wrong you get your ankles broken. Most of the time you'll stumble and have an opportunity to recover. But, other times you might end up on the ground a la Antonio Daniels versus A.I."

i have to try that out. I want to make a defender fall
this is the first nba game where you can actually get by the defender
i cant remember were in any nba game where you can blow by weaker
players :(

No, every team will be updated. He's talking about those teams being involved with Synergy in real life. EA's deal with Synergy will have them collecting and updating data for every team and player.

So yet another way to beat the D.

Has anything been added to make it possible to play D?

Yes, Lockdown Defense. It's similar to the on-ball scenarios in the last gen version but it's quite effective, so long as you stay in front of the player with the ball and react to their movement accordingly. The "jostle" game in the post is a bit better too, if you can read what they're going to do you can defend effectively though it's not perfect.

I believe it had a similar feature. It does remind me a lot of on-ball scenarios though.

Getting better....

Postby qwomack74 on Tue Aug 05, 2008 5:37 am

This new type of gameplay should help raise the bar for basketball games. Over the years there have been many "gimmicks" to try and sell games. last year was a great step by building a solid foundation. Now it is time to add the bells and whistles that can make this game a better experience.

Mind you, pretty much everything with a marketable name is written off as a gimmick. As a community, we're definitely cynical when we hear the name of a new feature but the fact of the matter is they need something eye-catching to put on the back of the box to sell the game. As long as it does the job, it doesn't matter what it's called in my view.
