Beluba: Too hard to pinpoint one thing and I'm sure each person on the team would name something different. For me, I think attacking the basket (and being able to counter that) is one of the big highlight improvements in my mind. Everything from the highlight reel dunks & contact layups to the Tayshaun- style blocks and hard fouls looks and feels really nice. The other thing I'll say for Live '09 is that it's just fun. I like to watch different people play, both casual and hardcore, and everyone's always getting excited and really into the game. I can't say I've experienced that in Live for quite some time as a gamer as well as the new guy on the dev team.

Beluba: With the new 2-man game mechanic, this is no longer a problem. You can thank Mr. Antwi for that.

Beluba: It's a simple mechanic. Just hold the B button, an onscreen meter will begin to fill, when the meter hits the green target window release B. The better your shooter, the bigger the window. The window size is also scaled based on difficulty level. We also added the concept of "nerves." In 2P games, while the other dude is shooting, rapidly tap X & B to rumble his controller and cause the meter to flicker a bit. The AI will also do that to you in user vs. CPU games when you're the road team. Kinda cool.

Beluba: If you're talking about real life rookies... the top draft picks got assigned sig shots. If you're talking about Dynasty rookies, yes, they will be randomly assigned sig shots and go-to-moves.

Beluba: We re-worked the opening tip-off to improve it visually, but we had to cut the directional tipping aspect of it. With the new system, it's now a twitch game rather than a timing based one. As soon as the ref tosses the ball, the first person to hit Y will win.
And yes, you can throw oops out of the pick & roll mechanic. The CP3/Chandler combo is pretty deadly.

Beluba: Matt may want to chime in on this one since he oversaw the Quick Strike Anklebreaker feature... but the short answer is yes, mismatches should make a difference now. The system checks the ballhanding rating of the dribbler against the onball defense ratings of the defender when evaluating the different win/lose/draw outcomes. I was playing a game with Jeff the other day and he ended up getting a mismatch with his point guard against one of my bigs (I forget who the guys were.) He backed the ball out to the top of the arc, called an Iso, and pulled a hez cross on him. My defender tripped up and fell to the ground and he got an easy layup out of it. Even though I got scored on, we both thought it was cool.

Beluba: We do a ratings check here as well (Post Off. Strength vs. Post Def. Strength), and so far, I haven't seen any anomalies.
As for some of the other questions:
* Vujacic and the rest of the Bucks have been assigned the most appropriate shots we have available, but they're not necessarily unique only to them. Just like 2k, many of the shots are shared as we don't have the animation memory to sig up the entire league. All the teams have a good mix of shots and I think we did a good job capturing the essence of most guys' shot styles.
* Inbound alley-oop plays are a good idea. As Matt mentioned before, they just haven't been put in because we haven't had time to implement a good defensive counter. We'll try to get them in soon though.
* Yes, you can assign go-to-moves to your CAPs.

1. Last year when a player was going to post up all he would was put is back up to the player and defender wouldn't try to move around and try to get in a position for a block or a steal, I know NBA Live 09 will have a new 2-man mechanic since it has this will we see the offensive and defensive player fighting for the position, example the offensive player to get into position to score and the defensive player will get aggressive and move around and try to get into position for a block or a steal?
twi3: Kpg2fresh: Good question. The two man game mechanic is our pick and roll control which will allow you to command two players at the same time (screener and ball carrier). It can definitely be used to get guys into position for our new post game which has a bunch of cool new animations. And yes there are two player animations where defenders will battle for position or try to steal entry passes by fighting over the top. I use it to dominate Matt and Mike all the time
2. Also in last year the post game it was way to easy to score and there was really no contact in the post all the offensive player would have to do is press the dunk button and score, the defender would slide across away from the basket and not try try to block it, so my question will we see tons of more contact and will it be easier to defend in the post?
twi3: Yes! Finally Live has contact thanks to a ton of cool new collision animations. Not only will it help you defend the post when you get guys into good position but it will help you defend the basket in general. Big guys matter when you're playing D hint hint.
3. One thing I love about March Madness 08 was that there were tons of options in the post play were there were different types of shots and instead of the computer trying to choice the best shot you could pick it yourself so that made more user control, you were in control you could press x for a hook shot and b for a normal shot and so on, So will we see anything like this in NBA Live 09 where you can control the types of shots you take...
twi3: We certainly have a level of shot control for you. You can fade, lean, or throw up a floater from certain areas of the court by using your left analog with the shot button. Also, our post game allows you to shoot a hook shot versus a turnaround but this is contextual. Matt can definitely elaborate on this aspect of the game. But I can tell you it feels good when your player can shoot a little turnaround hook shot from deep post position.
All I want for Christmas is Ron Artest in a Laker uniform.

iminurbase: Good catch. We did fix some instances of this, but it is tricky. NBA LIVE 09 should be more realistic in this area.
