Groundbreaking Feature Revealed

Postby buzzy on Tue Jul 15, 2008 2:56 am

Mercurynews.com has revealed first details on the new feature of NBA Live 09.

http://www.mercurynews.com/business/ci_9875353
EA plans to announce today that the latest version of its "NBA Live" game will include a constantly updated artificial intelligence.

Whenever users log on to the game, the title will connect to the Internet to download data from the latest NBA games, including such details as whether a player like Kobe Bryant is taking more shots from the left or the right side of the floor and his relative success from each spot. The game will use such information to affect how the virtual Kobe Bryant plays in "NBA Live" and how he is guarded.

If they pull that off, it's goin' to be awesome.

wow, that seems very impressive.
if it works out as they want it to, that would be fantastic.

Really, that is ground-breaking, this would make the game really awesome... Imagine, in the middle of the season a trade is finalized and a running team(like GSW) starts playing half-court and you experience it all on NBA Live the next morning... WOW!

well it's really a nice feature mainly cause it will effect surprise players or break out seasons.........BUT most of the players stick to what they do best and keep doing what they are doing 90% of the time.

Kobe will still be shooting 45 degree threes from standstill and taking most of his shots in the post/ inside or FT area.

Elton Brand will still shoot mostly from 16 feet in etc.

The thing that would be great is that players like Travis Outlaw who suddenly turn up to be good shotoers from mid range will do that in game.

2k8 has a feature i dont know if anyone knows this it keeps track of your profile and what you like to do on defense and offense. Like goes for steal 50% of the time or likes to run fast breaks or runs a certain offense 20% of the time. You can choose a team and choose to play that style for practice.

I really hope they made the gameplay smoother like 2k8 cause live 08 doesnt run smoothly on the court, eventhough it looks way better.

also i think they are gonna use the hot spots for this feature so that means they only know where the player is shooting from, but they don;t know what type of play it is.....is it a set play? An isolation off the dribble play? catch and shoot? fade away? or regular jumper?

That's a great point, ThaLiveKing. Maybe Andrew will have more information on that after EA makes the announcement officially and the embargo be lifted so we can hear what he thinks of it. Maybe he has some info that will clarify and explain better how the ground breaking feature works in-game and how it affects gameplay as well.

whats NBA Rewind?

"which will allow players to play any game that happened between two teams for this last year's season as well as the upcoming year's season with the way that each player was performing at that point in time. Not only will you be able to return to one of these previous games and attempt to see if you could have played the game better than it happened in real life, you'll be able to see just how the team developed or diminished across the entire season and see if you can rewrite history. What's more, the stats and gameplay elements that happen in real life will be translated for players, so if Baron Davis, Kobe Bryant and Rip Hamilton get injured, the game will reflect the shift in the Clippers, Lakers and Pistons lineups with the next update."

I think hotspots are only the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Huddy187, whatever NBA Rewind is, it certainly sounds cool and will add even more depth and playability to NBA Live '09.

Seems like EA is finally going to have a great basketball game out. Amen, it's about damn time.

If everything does work out, this ground-breaking feature will be a major coup for NBA Live and EA Sports.

Imagine that:

stat-tracking

hot spots

roster/injury updates

NBA Rewind...

Wow! I was already wanting this game badly, but I think that my anticipation for it went through the roof!

It's a great day to be a gamer and an NBA Live fan.

Bravo, EA, bravo! 8-) :D (Y)

Tered,

Basically, EA took everything and improved on it: graphics, Dynasty Mode, there's NBA Academy, Be A Pro mode, fixed the dunks, improved the play-calling system and even threw in the ground-breaking feature for good measure. In short, everything has been expanded and improved upon.
