He wasn't the only one though. Even though Pierce is an All-Star he probably doesn't appeal as much to the casual fans compared to someone like LeBron, which is really the purpose of the cover athlete since hardcore players aren't going to be concerned with who is on the box. I'm guessing they'd probably want to go for someone a bit younger on the cover, Pierce isn't exactly at retirement's door but he's a bit past being one of the league's younger stars.

I could be wrong of course, the cover athlete will surely be a significant player in the NBA and Pierce is certainly a star player and well-known but based on previous cover athletes he strikes me as a longshot at this point. Five or six years ago he would have been more likely, in my opinion.

i'd say paul, but something tells me that it could be KG again, or, may be some one from atlanta: JJ or Smith - they both go wild this season! and also chandler and west of NOK were too shiny this season! i think there gonna be one on hornets team on the cover of Live 09 for sure!!
i'd smile if EA choose Hedo Turkoglu! :lol:

Gilbert Arenas is really the only player who's suffered bad luck the same year he appeared on the cover. Everyone else has had at least an average season by their own standards.

He probably wouldn't attract as many casual fans as someone like LeBron James though. Of course you never know, given his past involvement with EA Sports and depending on the Celtics' success in the Playoffs but Pierce doesn't strike me as a leading candidate.

It depends if Kobe's free to appear on the cover. If he's still under contract with Sony then he won't be appearing on anyone else's cover.

duhh isnt kobe the obvious choice not just cause hes mvp
but cause hes kobe cmon kobe is 1000 times better than lebron
so what if lebrons not on it this year he has a whole career to get on
the cover kobe has been playin since 96 hes never been on the cover
hes a living legend and currentley best player in the league

i would say KOBE BRYANT!!!!!!!!!! he is mvp.... he is a 2-time all star game mvp..... my other pick for cover is LEBRON JAMES!!!!!!!! also a 2-time all-star game mvp.... and he led the cavs to the finals last year.... or a double or triple cover with ray allen, paul pierce, and kevin garnett......... or kobe bryant and pau gasol together! :mrgreen:

But again, if Kobe is under contract with another developer he cannot appear on anyone else's cover until that deal is no longer in place. I'm not sure if that's the case but he was on the cover of Sony's NBA 07 so it's a possibility.
