Damn. . .Yeah too bad. . By the time Rapidshare is done, the game will be available lol

i gotta say, i am impressed. the player movements feel much more organic. i especially like the new dunks and rebounds. jumping for blocks and rebounds doesnt look retarded anymore. if the dna and 365 thing works out as planned i think its going to be a great game. i used the pick and roll control and play calling features, and they seem to work nicely once you get the hang of them. i like that when you are defense and you move into the offensive player you kind of stick to them, but they can break away from you if you don't stay in front of them. overall, i am pretty excited. i think the academy will come in handy for learning all the new controls. its too bad its not available in the demo. here's another bonus, if you push the dunk/layup button when you are too far away from the basket you actually take a jumpshot instead of looking retarded.

Here are some NBA Live 09 videos of the demo.

For some reason the Academy demo did not convert into a streaming video. For those who have problems with filefront, too bad.

Ughh, wasn't there a way or something on filefront that you can stream it when finished uploading? Or is that a different movie format?

RE: Pdub thanks a ton

First of all thanks for taking the time to upload those vids. overall they are quite impressive and definetly present an improvement over 08 PC and the videos of 08 next-gen i have seen.

a few questions if you don't mind:

*At what difficulty level where these played?

* Seems like AI help D is somewhat sluggish and slow to react when a perimiter player is beat of the dribble ( ex: vid2 2:33), do you agree?

*Sliding through defender on perkins slam (vid 3 0:12)

* Im afraid it seems a bit too easy to score down low, I noticed alot of shots around the rim as opposed to dunks, is this because you prefer to play realisticaly or because the game does not allow for or reward arbitrary dunks in the paint?

* it also seems slightly to easy to make alley-oops,especially considering Rondo is no elite PG.

* the Tempo seemed a bit fast, is it the game or your style of play? How many minutes per quarter would, in your opinion, produce a realistic amount of possesions without having to artificially slow down the games speed slider to a crawl ?
(for me in live 08 PC 9MPQ and a 37 speed slide yield good results and I really force myself to play slow tempo which is like artifiacially handicaping yourself in Live 08 PC's arcady world... but I digress)

* I really like the strategy controls for box-out and cradh-boards, but do they work?

*Are there options for double teaming other players only in the paint or on the perimeter?

*Do reach-in steals have to do with you input as a player or are they as random as in Live 08 PC?

Hope these aren't to many questions. and thanks a lot for the videos!

That was definitely a good move, it doesn't allow user error to compromise any realism.

I got some Multiplayer impressions.

Had some friends over and we played 2v2. First off, again, just shooting around with multiple people is a lot of fun and we should put that in the wishlist for doing that online.

I have played a lot of 08 and OTP, one of my friends played a lot of the PS2 version, and the other two had little to no experience with basketball video games even though we all used to play a lot of real basketball.

Defense exists, but you can still work your way to the basket and score just as easily as 08. None of them knew how to backdown yet the all seemed to spin right around each other and me on defense. However, the blocking of dunks/layups have increased and the no call collision turnovers help disuade them from doing it all the time.

Rebounding and Inbounding was a lot better, I wasn't able to draw a charge on the turning PG like last year, but again, I didn't really try. We all got burned on 1v1 Defense pretty easily. When we actually got do get close and do the lock down defense we got a lot of stops and contained players but without it the offensive player can just slip by.

Had a lot of glitches but nothing astronomically bad. Players going through each other once or twice, player inbounding while not actually being out of bounds. A couple should have been out of bounds calls and the ever existent over and back violation because the ball goes back over in a dribble move (in this case a fake spin move)

Those were the nitpicks pretty much, the game was hilariously fun and is actually going to be a part of our game "rotation" when it comes out along with Halo and CoD. So in that aspect it was a success but hardcore OTP / online users are going to find their fair share of annoyances.

Edit, I had a turnover percentage of about 10% on alleyoop attempts. so that can be whored out pretty effectively.

"here's another bonus, if you push the dunk/layup button when you are too far away from the basket you actually take a jumpshot instead of looking retarded."

IMHO that's a problem. If the game doesn't do precisely what the user controls it to do, then the user doesn't have full control.

Sat Sep 06, 2008 2:47 pm

But then if the game doesn't make that adjustment, it's possible to attempt layups/dunks from the three point line which doesn't happen in real life. I've noticed NBA 2K already took that approach with its shot stick when you're beyond the arc.

Sat Sep 06, 2008 6:42 pm

also if you toss an alley oop pass and the reciever isnt in a position to attempt a dunk or layup they will come down with the ball. again, you dont look like a retard. well, not full retard. you never want to go full retard.

there are sliders on the demo, guys.... they're a big help.

on a total tangent here....... the new METALLICA cd is fucking awesome. i have it if anybody would like me to share. its in a zip file, which i can give a link to you if you pm me.... ironicly the band is cool with the fact that it leaked. who woulda thunk it?

You should update your flash.

after watching the first 2 Pdub videos, I gotta say the animations look 10 times better than last year. gameplay seems too much like last year though. the ridiculously long passes that are always on the money are still there, however looks like they did clean it up a little bit with more interceptions. hopefully that can be fixed with sliders. collision animations still a little buggy but looks like a great improvement overall

No answers guys?

I just received an xbox360 for my birthday friday night and i quickly hooked it up to my notebook to get internet access to download the demo.

Before playing live 09 i havent played any next gen basketball games before and so i have extremely good impressions for the game. I love all the animations, especially the rebounding. The quickstrike ballhandling is so much better than pc version which i have been playing for the past 2 years. However, in some combo moves in the dribbling motion may look awkward eg (bounce ball to ground and the ball suddenly sucks back into the palm for the next animation). Another thing I didnt like is the tip off for the game. The camera doesnt start the way we usually see a broadcast game, instead its looking at the players close up as if a camera was next to their shoes at tip off.

Pros: user control of shooting, lock down defense, pick and roll (efficient), majority of animations, graphics

Cons: quickstrike animations can be improved, tip off presentation,

Any word on when us loyal Sony fans will get the demo? i'm starting to cave into the pressure of microsoft

ok, I've played this demo a lot so below are my impressions .

NBA Academy is going to be a great feature , can't wait for the full version to see all its features unlocked.
This year while loading we can see locker room instead of last years Trivia. It makes us feel like we are going to the court. Is it better loading screen than last years ? I don't know.
When the game is loaded we can see cheerleaders dancing (this is sth new, and its really improving the game presentation) then Starting lineups with some DNA tendences .
New Tip Of camera is good for me but you need some practice to win the ball.
Gameplay this year is much better than last year. I love Quick Strike Ankle Breakers animations. It's really helpful to get to the rim but it isn't overpowerd feature. My favourite thing in Live 09 are dunk/layup animations. Its amazing feeling when you make an easy dunk with Rondo. Another great feature is Signature playcalling, It's really easy to make a good action. It's hard to stop players in the post but it is possible to make them miss. Unfortunately Kobe Bryant is unstopable when shooting from the midrange, even when you are controlling him. Its great that finally there are different shoot styles, but of course I've seen only two teams.Foul animations are great too. New Freethrow system is really good for me. For example it' very easy to make a freethrow with Allen but It's hard to score with Bynum.

Pick'nRoll control is a good idea, It's nice that we have three possibilities . Unfortunately when we play a pick'n roll we always score, so It's a little overpowered feature for me.
What I hope that will be fixed in Full Version is that players and ball are behaving strange when they are near the lines. Sometimes there should be out of bounds but somehow it isn't.
Something that disapointed me is lockdown defense. To be honest it's nothing. Sometimes it helps stealing the ball, but more frequently It gives offensive player an easy chance to score.
Fortunately this year is harder to steal the ball, as I said before you need to use Lockdown moves but it will make you steal the ball only somtimes.

NBA Rewind is a fun feature too, that was a great idea to put historical box scores to the game.

NBA Live 09 is much better than Live 08 for me. It has totally diferent gameplay which I really love. It's a great pleasure to play this years edition, which can be the best NBA Live ever. Can't wait for pre-order in Poland !! :D

It's not just about making a block or steal though, it's about forcing bad shots, shot clock violations, cutting off the drive and generally disrupting the offense. That said, it's going to take a bit of getting used to for it to be used effectively.

Oh for the days of PC demos.

NBA Live 09 looks like on spot this year. Good job EA.
And i can't wait for the 2010 title and the PC version.

I've just had a few games on the demo and I think it's great. The player models and textures are nice and I've finally got the quickstrikes moves and pick n roll all sussed out. It took a while to get use to the controls after playing 2k for so long (I kept trying to backdown with LT haha) but now I find the controls easy.

A few problems I've had so far are, that there seems to be a bit of lag while trying to block, and clipping issues, which aren't that bad while you're actually playing.

One thing I've also noticed, is that if the pg drives past you they seem to shoot the ball straight away. To counter this, don't always man up your player, sag off him every now and then and you should be fine.

Overall the game is looking really, really ridiculously good this year.
