Talk about NBA Live 09 here.

How is making a simple port using already existing devkits and capabilities more expensive than undertaking a MMOG enterprise specifically for the PC? And why would they give up their cash cow (weak annual releases) to lose money on a MMOG enterprise?
EA would be vastly overestimating the amount of people who would subscribe to such a thing. As well as their own online capabilities. I mean, they still don't have a viable digital distribution package, let alone concept. (Step One: Don't make gamers, who have for three decades been used to buying a game and having it forever, have to "renew" their access to the games every year.)
I love Moore's post, it's nothing but talking down to who he considers to be children. If that is "addressing the core issues" I don't know how he continues to get work in the video game industry.
The PC as a platform for authentic, fully-licensed, simulation sports games has declined radically in the past three years as the next generation consoles, with their high definition graphics and 5.1 sound capabilities have attracted millions of consumers to eschew the “lean in” PC sports gaming experience for the “lean back” full room console experience.
And as EA, the only and easily largest PC sports game maker who hits multiple non-simulator fields, continued to port shoddy PS2 versions having not made a PC-based version in what is now eight years, nor chosen to port the "next generation" versions.
Piracy isn't a justification for not making PC games, as he clearly hasn't had EA evaluate any other platforms then.
If there's a $399 PC than can run Crysis...
1. Port the 360 version, give it an actual PC-centric UI, and put it on Steam.
2. ???
3. Profit.

Last Chance...Be considerate EA??...

The PC has not been abandoned permanently though. Hopefully this means that this is merely a hiatus as far as NBA Live for the PC is concerned.

Should we expect that announcement about the future of the PC version of NBA Live soon?
Mon Jul 14, 2008 4:02 am
I hope that they revive NBA Live for the PC using a next-gen (Ps3/Xbox360) port of the game for the PC.
Pdub, hard telling when EA and if EA plans to bring back Live to the PC. I have hope that they will.

Not that I'm aware of. It's something they'll probably address once NBA Live 2010 is in production.

Although, at the same time they can buy the game still since the PC users doesn't have nothing to play on their computer, but news is going to be coming real soon for you PC users. Just tune into NBA-LIVE.com about what's going on.

Maybe that is the NBA Live PC Project that we have here in NLSC that he is talking about?

I'm guessing so since there's no other announcement as yet.
Mon Jul 14, 2008 11:38 pm
Did you tell them about the project while up there?
Tue Jul 15, 2008 12:20 am
I did, I was told to keep them informed so they could post announcements on the official site for us.
Tue Jul 15, 2008 5:59 pm
Is that be it for NBA Live series on PC or should we wait for NBA LIve 2010 on PC.
Tue Jul 15, 2008 7:23 pm
We don't know for sure at this stage but for the moment it looks like there's hope for the future of NBA Live on the PC, based on what Peter Moore has said about the PC platform. The only thing we know for sure at the moment is that there will be no NBA Live 09 for the PC.

I guess he was talking about the PC mod then.

I'd say so. As I said, we should also be getting some exposure for it in the community blogs so I'll be sending along info on it.

WTF? Why would they do this, there are thousands of PC gamers waiting for 09!

Man, think of the ppls who can't afford a PS3, XBOX 360, or any other damn system.

Their reasons for doing so have pretty much been covered in this thread. It certainly wasn't something they did out of spite.

Course not. No one turns down free cash. They made a conscious decision to ignore us this year. Look at Grand Theft Auto IV for instance. The PC version may yet come out but why are they delaying its release up to 6 months? Because it's probably much less profitable and they don't want to cannibalize sales on the PS3 and Xbox. Given a choice, most people with good PC's will buy the PC version because it is $39.99 vs. $59.99, you can download mods, you can get no-DVD patches to avoid putting in the stupid DVD, and you can update much easier on the internet. I'm sure all the game developers have signed agreements with Sony and Microsoft to hold back PC releases to get anxious buyers to migrate to their systems.

Maybe, though I would think that if they were doing to drive people to the consoles they'd flat out abandon the PC platform which they haven't done (yet). They keep alluding to doing a "reboot" on the PC which hopefully means they'll at least be porting the 360/PS3 versions to the PC. We'll see.

I have watched way to many games stop the PC version. Im fighting till the end.
Wed Jul 23, 2008 11:40 am
Andrew do you have the link on our own MODS for the 08 version. Man am I disappointed, I saved up to upgrade my PC and I was raring to buy the PC version for 09 only to hear the news. What do you think can we do with our own version?
Wed Jul 23, 2008 6:47 pm
I'm not sure what you mean. There are a lot of patches posted in the NBA Live 08 Releases & Previews section if that's what you're talking about.
Thu Jul 24, 2008 1:06 am
I think he means or he was referring to the 06 mod that you were making
Thu Jul 24, 2008 10:29 am
He's referring to NBA Live 08 though.

This would be the second time that live wasn't released for the PC. NBA Live 2002 was released only on the PS1, PS2, and Xbox.
FYI, NBA live 2009 would be available for the PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, Ps2, WII. That's it for the PC

. NBA Live 2001 was the last NBA Live that I played on the PC. I liked NBA 98, 99, and 2000. Back then the PC had superb graphics as compared to the PS1.
