Not likely, he doesn't match the silhouette posted on the official site. Also, welcome to the Forum. :)

If the shape and background is any indication, I say Ray Allen.

Its not logical to put another Celtic on a basketball cover this year...cause it would cause some confusion among casual b-ball gamers...Ray Allen didnt deserve it to be on the cover, if you ask me...I'd rather wanna see the finals MVP - Paul Pierce...

The reason i said its gonna be Dwight is this...

Last year he was doing the mo-cap for NBA 2k8...and when asked which b-ball game will be better, he said: buy both games...both games will be great...! (Maggette, Livingston and Iguodala said: NBA 2k is better...just Dwight couldnt make a clear decision)...i had the feeling that he was "saving" him self for the EA cover in the future...I mean he had a great season too + he played good in the play-offs...also, he fits good in the EA Sports type of player for the cover...young and fresh (remember D-Wade & Carmelo)...IDK...i still think its gonna be Dwight...

the silhouette looks like MJ...LOL... :D

Thanks for the nice reception...nice to be here...

I don't see this being Paul Pierce, EA make the cover decision a lot earlier before the regular season ends, I remember Gilbet saying he was called in February for that thing. Could be Dwight, but if you consider the silhouette which is NOT on the cover(in that same page), it can't be him, cause he hasn't dribble the ball like that at any moment in his career, I never saw him with the ball near the three-point line...

I don't think it would be all that confusing. It didn't seem to cause much confusion when both companies went with Miami Heat players for 06/2K6. As far as Dwight Howard is concerned, I see where you're coming from but the bottom line is he doesn't match the silhouette, which is significant because every time EA has teased the cover player like this the silhouette has been an exact match of the cover design.

And even if they were using someone else's silhouette to throw us off, Dwight Howard appeared on the cover of the latest NBA Ballers game, which generally means he's not able to appear on anyone else's cover just yet.

The Celtics were the top team from pretty much the beginning of the season and were surrounded by a lot of hype since August last year, so I wouldn't rule out Pierce or Allen on the basis that the decision was made long before the NBA Finals.

Then I don't get why McGrady was on the cover of '07?

Sometimes it simply looks like they're picking random superstars, or trying to predict who's going to shine that season(like D-Wade shining in '06).

well i read somwhere that it is Allen thought the source probably wasn't reliable, it might be him or maybe Billups, maybe CP3 thought i would wish the most it would be Kobe but i don't think it will be him..

They don't always pick the player who was on the top team during the previous season, that's not what I was suggesting. I'm just saying you can't count out someone like Pierce or Allen just because the cover player is picked before the end of the season. They're perennial All-Stars who were on the top team in the league through the course of last season (a team surrounded by a lot of hype) and they're well-known to NBA fans, which are qualities that are characteristic of past cover players.

The cover players really aren't that random. Since Shaq appeared solo on the NBA Live 96 cover they've all been stars or stars on the rise, well-known to basketball fans and marketable thanks to their popularity, fame and status in the league. I'm sure other factors such as players returning from injury or coming off a championship/MVP season are other marketing angles that are considered when picking the cover player.
