The opening night update (available now) has certainly added new transactions and fixed some lineups but some players are still missing and some lineups are incorrect based on the opening night games and roster listings (notably players who should be on the inactive list). Some of those players are in the Free Agent pool however. That said, if you've subscribed to the NBA Live 365 service - which is free for anyone who buys the game new - I'd definitely recommend grabbing one of these early season updates before starting a Dynasty.

In a follow up to my post earlier this morning, I have a received another notice from EA Sports on the status of NBA Live 365:
Hello Everyone,
In our communication to all of you before the launch of NBA LIVE 09, we said that NBA LIVE 365 would be “Made Fresh Daily.” This will certainly be the case, but I wanted to update everyone on our current status, because there are lots of questions being asked around the community concerning NBA LIVE 365 and when it will officially “turn on.” Last night the NBA season officially kicked off. Six teams played, and the NBA LIVE 365 information was received and is ready to be pushed in-game for all of you to enjoy, but in order to accurately reflect what’s happening in the real NBA in NBA LIVE 09, we need the data from EVERY NBA team once they finish their first game.
The last NBA teams will play their first game on Thursday (10/30). To accurately reflect what happened for every team’s first game in NBA LIVE 09, we’re going to turn on NBA LIVE 365 on Friday morning (10/31) for everyone that input a code on the insert inside the NBA LIVE 09 packaging. Once every team plays their first game, you will see your daily changes as promised.
We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but we really wanted to update the community on what our current status is. We thank you for your overwhelming excitement and continued interest for this feature, and we promise that you’ll be pleased with what’s reflected in-game based on the real NBA season. It’ll be a long, enjoyable journey for all of us to enjoy!
Thanks,
The NBA LIVE 09 Team
More details as they become available.

Andrew,
Do you know if they will update some things like player accessories, size of some players that are not exact etc ?
do you know where we can send them our suggestions except here ?
Thanks !

Yes, they will be doing that. There's a thread over on the official boards same as the one here for reporting accessory updates.

Andrew I have questions regarding this 365 update once it's available tomorrow.
1. Does the update include missing players such as free agents and rookies?
2. Would 365 keep updating your roster for latest changes in the season such as player getting waived or players getting signed on a particular team.
I was updating the roster manually. For some reason, I messed up the updating process. I loaded the roster file that I saved this afternoon and all of a sudden I noticed that the players that I created are gone. I'm willing to let three playing days go by as long as I get the accurate roster here. Thanks.

1. That's the idea, though players might not always have their correct appearance upon first being added. I'm told that such issues will be corrected within a couple of days. It remains to be seen how well that aspect of 365 will work.
2. Yes it will, but it won't affect a Dynasty in progress.

I'm looking forward to that man. In fact I even haven't started any season yet.

There's arguably not much point until you have some form of roster update, either one of the 365 updates or a home made one; at least, it's usually more fun with updated rosters and all the missing players added.
Sat Nov 01, 2008 6:54 am
It's already Oct. 31 here in the US. They said that the updated rosters would be available this morning. It's still the same. I'll try to login again this evening to see if there are any changes.

Do cyberfaces change? I don't know for the next-gen version but if some of the cyberfaces are the same as PS2 - major changes are needed. I mean, just watch an Australian Olympic game - Nielsen is number 14 with long hair and a beard... Yet I think they used the cyberface of his former team-mate Bajramovic. That, of course, brings the question if National teams are gonna be changed...

if you're using a ps2 this live 365 update is not applicable to your console.
Sat Nov 01, 2008 9:40 am
I know that, but I'm still curious about the next-gen version. One of the things I'm most puzzled about is, in fact, whether next-gen uses the same cyberfaces as prev-gen (appearance-wise)?

They also said:

As I'm posting this, there are still two games that have not finished. The server was back up and running this morning but the updates don't go out until the day's games have concluded and the data has come in.

The NBA Live 365 service has been reactivated. I have received the following message from the NBA Live 09 Development Team:
“Hello Everyone,
Like we told you guys yesterday, NBA LIVE 365 would go live today. Well, I’m officially letting all of you know that NBA LIVE 365 has now been turned on, and is scheduled to go live between really late Friday, and early Saturday morning. You should see all roster lineups accurately reflected in-game based on what’s currently happening in the real NBA season. You’re probably wondering about DNA and Tendencies right? Well, those will be ready for you to download soon, but we’re waiting for teams to play a few games so that you see some differences in their DNA and tendencies.
This is an exciting and brand new feature for not only us, but sports games period so there’s bound to be some kinks that need to be worked out. I wanted to thank you on behalf of the entire NBA LIVE 09 development team for being so excited, eager and patient about the implementation of this feature. Because this is happening as the season goes along, it’s something that we wanted worked out and fully tested before we turned on the switch to you guys. Two things to note; there are some inconsistencies in the lineups that you may see, but they will be addressed as we move forward. Also, in order to keep the daily updates going, if there is a player at any point in time during the season that is not in our game but has played a game in the real NBA, you’ll see him reflected in-game as a generic player. Don’t worry, he’ll be implemented in-game accurately that same week, and the generic player will be out of your game.
Thanks again for the patience everyone! These are truly exciting times for all of us as the future of basketball is now!
Thanks,
The NBA LIVE 09 Dev Team”

Hey guys,
I wanted to update you guys on a few things....
So the PS3 update is working correctly with lineup changes! Unfortunately, the 360 update isn't working correctly so we're working on that right now. I'll give you updates as things move along.
I know by now saying sorry is not good enough, but very sorry for this inconvenience.
Sun Nov 02, 2008 7:48 am
hahaha EA....
Sun Nov 02, 2008 11:23 am
Hello Everyone,
We're good to go for lineup changes with NBA LIVE 365 on the XBOX 360. Similar to last night with the PS3 version of NBA LIVE 09, an update will be deployed late Saturday night (11/1), early Sunday morning (11/2) that will activate accurate lineup changes based on the NBA games played for NBA LIVE 09. Just to reiterate, the DNA and tendencies will be updated, but we're waiting a few days so that games can be played and you guys can see the changes.
Once again, we couldn't be more appreciative for your understanding and patience as we work through the kinks in this brand new feature!
Continue please to leave your feedback on NBA LIVE 365, and we'll be sure to update all of you as we move forward!
Thanks,
The NBA LIVE Dev Team

Appreciate the update Crazylegs.

Here are the things that I noticed on the recent updated. All missing players have the same height. Ex. is Darnell Jackson who stands 6'9 in real life and he is listed at 6'5 hahahaha. WTF, EA should fix this right away. I noticed that EA keeps on implementing a 12 player should play rule in their game. A couple of seasons ago the NBA has allowed all 15 players to play in a game. I hope they fix this in the next nba live.

ps3owner wrote:A couple of seasons ago the NBA has allowed all 15 players to play in a game. I hope they fix this in the next nba live.
No they didn't. They changed the inactive roster rules so that any player can be activated up to a certain time before any game (previously, players on the injured list had to be inactive for at least five games) but only twelve players can suit up.
Check the boxscores; except for summer league and preseason games (where the rule does not apply), there are only seven reserves listed. NBA Live has it right.
Sun Nov 02, 2008 12:23 pm
thanks for the correction. but EA should fix the actual rosters. it seems that they just added the players name regardless of height and school
Sun Nov 02, 2008 12:35 pm
Indeed, those are certainly errors.
Mon Nov 03, 2008 12:47 am
i hope ea fixes this problem soon. i plan to modify the roster. i wish ea would go back to the time when you can save and edit an existing player ala nba live 98
