Bench Substitutions, Please Help!

Mon Oct 27, 2008 11:12 am

Ok, I used to have 2K7 and 2K8 and loved doing my dynasties, but this year I made the switch because of the NBA Live 365.

Anyways, As I start my Dynasty, everything looks good, I use the Cavs... Well obviously by my name. The presentation is 10 times better and there is ALOT of stuff to do during the dynasty.

But once you start a game, it's hard to have a realistic substitution for like your 6th man and so on when the NBA Live doesn't do it automatically.

On 2K8, you could give a certain amount of minutes to players on your teams and have them roles like Role Player, 6th Man, Starter, and Star Player with each player getting minutes.

Even with the Auto-Substitutions on, it only gets my player on for like 2 minutes, and then once the next whistle blows, my starter is back out there, like WTF?

And you probably can say "Why don't you just do it during the game?"

It's kinda hard to click the left analog stick, go through the positions, look for the right player, and then click it again, all while i'm on offense with the shot clock going down and i'm at the top of the key, it just throws me off guard. Not only that, but then I have to do it for every single bench player AND get my starter back in there by like the 7 or 8 minute mark of the 2nd quarter, and repeat for the 2nd half, all while trying to do that on offense and wasting time on the shot clock.

I looked at the "Player Rotation" on the dynasty, but I swear it makes no sense and the bench players get like no time even If I gave them like 1/3 a bar. Why didn't they just do it like 2K8 or something similar, where you can designate minutes..

This is a MAJOR turnoff because I'm not the kind of dynasty player that trades half my team on the first week of the season and plays only my starters. I like to play for the realism, and I hope theres a way for the substitutions to actually work or a way to give specific minutes.

Wow another cavs fan! Unfortunately you can assign certain minutes to players. But you can by moving your players that you want more minutes to the 6,7,8 spots, i think that those spots have the most bench minutes any way. Unfortunately when live 08 changed so did player rotation. If you're talking giving computer players more minutes then as you probably know the best thing you can do is use the sliders but even then some computer players may play the whole game. Its the computer's team and i guess they can do what they want with their players, the computer is stupid any way. If you're talking give players more minutes in simulation, the computer determines that, the rotation was probably best in live 06. By the way you say you use the cavs? Who do you train? Because i was doing a cavs dynasty and i trained jj hickson and he improved a lot. His speed was over 80 i loved training him in athletics because i love fast big men, i trained him so much that he can almost shoot threes i forgot where his 3 point stat was. Its too bad they didn't have the mo williams trade in there. Who are you training in your cavs dynasty?

Well I got the NBA Live 365 so It shows me with Mo Williams.

I trained abit with JJ Hickson, but alot with Sasha Pavlovic. Many Cavs fans thinks his season is a wash, but I am a HUGE fan of him back when the Cavs made it to the NBA Finals and he was our starting Shooting Guard. I see the potential in him to be a 10-12 PPG scorer and guarding the better offensive SG/SF so that LeBron goes to work on offense.

I don't want Delonte West to start at SG, he is too short and having 2 short guards with Mo and West in the real NBA is going to hurt alot.

Anyways, what I only wanted to know was the minutes for my team, not for the AI even though it should substitute players and play like the real NBA but it doesn't really matter. The simulation I don't really do, I try to play every single game.

I checked out some of the sliders on here, and I'm going to use it because when I played like 2 games on my dynasty at 10 minutes a quarter, the scores were fine, like around the 90's and what not, but both teams were shooting like 60+% from the field!!?

I'll get it fixed with the sliders though, and restart my dynasty with the sliders since I only played 2 games. I used a 9 man rotation with NBA 2K8 with 10 minute quarters because a 10th man is not enough minutes to spread around. I hope to use a 9 man rotation for NBA Live 09 with LeBron playing most of the SF minutes. I'll see If I can get the minute situation fixed.

PG: Mo Will
SG: Sasha Pavlovic
SF: LBJ
PF: Big Ben
C: Z

6th Man: Delonte West (SG)
7th: Anderson Varajao (C/PF)
8th: Daniel Boobie Gibson (PG/SG)
9th: J.J. Hickson (PF)

I'd recommend making substitutions during timeouts or setting a pending lineup by pausing the game and making the desired changes. Being able to set substitutions on-the-fly is a handy feature to have but as you've pointed out, it's a bit cumbersome. It's much easier to handle when the game is paused or play has stopped due to a timeout.
