this looks great. The dunk of Davis on the dude was sick but hopefully the help defense will be smart enough to switch to the driver and block those pgs man. Not another pg domination game....

In this video, Lockdown D is looking awesome. I think, sports gamers will be able to play realistic D soon with the release of NBA Live 09. Good job EA.

The only thing seen re: lock down D was a blocked shot. What about forcing a bad shot, forcing a shot clock violation?

Yes but EA simplified it by making it either left or right. I wonder if you can just back off the player at this moment since you know he is trying to get past you. That would add a nice element becase then the player could decide to pull up.

In 2K8, it's more of trying to force a collision animation or force the ballhandler to pick up his dribble. I'm still not sure how they get triggered, but they happen every now and then. Although, I do like 2k's lockdown defense because you can hold the controller in any direction and your player will guard at that angle, so if I want to give the player room, I of course back off, and if I want to force him baseline, I can cut off the middle, or I can play tight.

Entirely possible if you play defense effectively. I found you have to be much more conservative with turbo this year, otherwise you'll be darting back and forth and playing D very off-balance. Lockdown Defense reminds me a lot of the On-Ball Scenarios with a bit of a jostle game going on. If you anticipate what the ballhandler is doing and move accordingly, you can shut them down and force shot clock violations and poor shots. I doubt anyone could do it every time down the floor and players like Kobe are going to make it tougher but it's possible.

But it does seem like you've got to go easy on the turbo, otherwise you'll get a burst of speed when you don't want to and overplay your man, giving him some room to pull up or drive by you.

You can, and that's another way it reminds me of the On-Ball Scenarios because they're initiated simply by moving in close to the defender and then using the left stick to stay on him by anticipating his movements and can be broken by either player. You can either back off a bit as the defender or the offensive player can step back, all with the left stick. Defensive Assist is still in the game too though your player gives up a little more room using that method.
