kobe bryant is correct, 8400gs, even with 512mb vRAM wont get you that far, your having 1Gb RAM may also be a limiting factor

Id go for at least a 9600GT is budget permits, if not then Id go 9500GT as its about at par with the recommended card (7900GT)

If you are not willing to spend though then I suggest you try the demo and see from there if the 8400gs' performance is acceptable for you .The card will work since it passes the minimum requirements (technology wise since 8400GS is SM4.0 while minimum is SM3.0) but Im not sure how powerful it is versus the minimum required card (GeForce 6600)

i dont have that budget but o bought a 1gb 9400.. surprisingly, i can run the game at max level, no lags nor slow loading .. player details are ultra high and the rest are high, 1440x900 resolution works just fine.. why is that?

how many fps are you getting? how about AA and AF levels?
If we look at the games recommended videocard, it says a 7900GT

well a 7900GT is about at par with an 8600GT and a 9500GT is slightly better than an 8600GT (though they have the same 32 stream processors)
the 9400GT on the other hand has 16stream processors and half the bandwidth of the 8600GT

how the 9400GT performs that well i do not know, but since you say it does then congratulations :)

anyway how much is the 1Gb version of the 9400 versus the regular version? do you know (this is just to inform and not to discourage ok) that there is almost no benefit between the 1Gb version versus the 512 (and maybe even the 256mb?)

this is just a heads up to you guys out there who are shopping for video cards
low and midrange cards (up to the 8800GT) will not benefit much on having 1Gb of vRAM..on most situations, the card would have run out of raw power before it reaches the point where that much vRAM is used

ei Wicked Waway, i just got a NBA 2k9 on my PC and have a new specs, but sadly, i can only play it at Max Settings All, not ultra High on the Player Detail, and i can't find the AF in the Options,

here are my specs

AMD Athlon 5600+ 2.9Ghz
2gb DDR2 800 RAM
Palit 9600GT 512MB

when i try doing it @ ultra high, i get about 20 - 30 fps? what is wrong?

ultra high is only available on player details, the other options are limited to HIgh
anisotropic filtering can be forced via the nVIDIA control panel

what MSAA settings have you set it on? if you set it too high maybe the videocard cannot cope up? did you set vsync on?

in my case, I have noticed that forcing vsync on sets your fps to certain levels, with the max being the refresh rate of your monitor
then the next level for me is around 20-30fps too (intro when the arena is zoomed out)

gameplay though is at constant 60fps

if i remember correctly, vsync does this things that sets "levels" for your fps based on the max sustainable fps (and of course max is limited to your monitors refresh rate) so if you are running at around 35fps to 40fps, chances are it will set your fps lower to the targetted "average" fps you can get..im not sure about this though but i think i read an explanation like that

personally i turn vsync off for my other games, its only with NBA 2k9 that i turn it on because w/o vsync, my fps has ridiculous spikes in fps (sometimes hits 90 then drops to 70fps in a second)

try lowering your AA settings and turning vsync off

what drivers are you using? what resolution are you playing at..

I expected more from a 9600GT and the X2 5600+ isnt shabby either

I have used un-legit copies of games in the past, but never a 2k game. They have always hit the ball out of the park when in comes to the 2K basketball series, so its always good to support them financially. Last thing we want is EA to buy-Out the NBA Liscence and have a monopoly (Like they did with the NFL). As long as EA and 2K stay competitive in sales, there no reason for the NBA to give anyone exclusive right, which means EA and 2K will compete every year to bring out the best basketball game. (If you haven't noticed with Madden... Since 2K isn't a competitor anymore, they have gotten lazy with certain aspects of gameplay but they still make a butt load on sales because there is no other NFL competition on the market.)

its just that I find it unacceptable that people can buy a decent PC but not a legit game esp NBA 2k9 because its a very good game and very reasonably priced

And he's banned for it.

This is a community of people who are enthusiastic about the game enough to buy it, upgrade their pc's, or even buy the PC version over a console version(or buy both) just to get their hands on 3rd party mods. We're not a bunch of leeches.
