I actually really like the Greatest Teams idea,i think that was pretty cool todo,i remember you showing a preview of that a few years back.It would be a cool idea todo but now our patchers here in the 08 section are very limited. And time is also a major factor also. But i hope one day...

Exactly, it may be a little too late for anything really big that isn't a current roster. Still, worth putting the idea back out there. :)

Re: Andrew's Updates | NBA Team Logos Bootup Screen

Postby Andrew on Thu Nov 13, 2014 11:11 pm

While I don't have time to patch NBA Live like I used to - particularly current roster updates - I do have a few unreleased updates in my archives, and some stuff that I've been working on for the 20th Anniversary of NBA Live. So, look out for a few releases here and there, when I get some time. :)

Today's release is a new version of the NBA Team Logos Bootup Screen. I've actually uploaded two versions; the current version, v8.0, contains logos for the 2014/2015 season. You can also select v7.0 from the dropdown menu, which is accurate as of the 2013/2014 season. Enjoy!

Re: Andrew's Updates | NBA Live 08 Task Killer (Windows 7 Fix)

Postby Andrew on Tue Dec 16, 2014 9:50 am

Another little fix/workaround, for anyone who runs into issues with Windows 7.

NBA Live 08 Task Killer (Windows 7 Fix)

When exiting NBA Live 08 in Windows 7 or above, occasionally the game's executable process will not be properly ended and will still show up among the running processes in the Task Manager. When this happens, you will usually find that you're unable to relaunch the game, or install/launch another version of NBA Live, until the process has been ended.

This batch file will manually end the NBA Live 08 executable process from the command line, and is intended to be a quick and easy fix that saves the user from having to open the Task Manager with Control+Alt+Delete. It may be a preferable alternative for users who are not particularly knowledgeable about troubleshooting Windows.

I find it interesting that when the process fails to close automatically - despite forcing the close of the program the save files appear to be preserved. Still this is a great fix, and its something I was curious about for a while. (Y)

Basically, I was growing weary of double-checking the Task Manager and ending the process when switching between games, and I figured there must be a way of killing a task via the command line, which would facilitate a batch file. A quick Google search later, and I had it.

Necessity is the mother of invention, as they say.

Re: Andrew's Updates | Fictional Basketball League Mod Demo

Postby Andrew on Wed Jan 21, 2015 9:37 pm

Fictional Basketball League Mod - Demo

So I've been messing around with something I believe I can create fairly quickly: a Fictional Basketball League mod.

The idea would be to have a league full of completely fictional players, with a few characters from movies and television shows related to basketball thrown in. As an example, I've put together a two team demo that replaces the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks with characters from movies and television shows. In the final version, they'd be in the minority, as completely fictional generated players would make up most of the league.

Right now, the only fictional players to have proper faces are the NBA players who are appearing as the characters they played in movies. All others are using generated rookie faces, chosen because they're as close as a resemblance as I can get to the actors portraying those characters. Oh, and Robert Horry is currently filling in for Will Smith, because of the running joke about them being long lost twins and all that. If I'm furnished with real faces for those players, I'll gladly use them. Likewise, if we get to the point where we have some fictional team art, we can also get rid of the NBA teams in favour of completely fictional ones.

More information can be found in the included FBL Demo.txt. Feel free to give it a go, let me know what you think of the idea, and whether you'd be willing to help out with some art updates. If there's any kind of interest, it's something I'll look to add to with further demo/beta updates, until we have something that looks like a full version.

Nice! (Y) I was attempting a similar mod a while back (using my very late dynasty rosters as a base), but I was too hung on revamping the entirety of the game's art (team logos, courts, and jerseys). I remember seeing a mod in a relatively stable state for another live game (06 or 05 I don't remember) with a similar approach, but the links may have died.

That's why I'm going the "demo" release route. That way, I can add to it piece by piece, and work on some other stuff at the same time, while still putting some of it out there.

Re: Andrew's Updates | Ultimate Jordan Roster Raw Demo

Postby Andrew on Thu Mar 19, 2015 11:13 pm

New Project: Ultimate Jordan Roster

Image

As I prepare content for our 20th Anniversary of NBA Live celebrations, I'm looking at creating a few different projects for the PC versions of NBA Live that I've long wanted to do, but never gotten around to doing. For the larger releases, I'm looking at releasing "demo" versions, which can be updated gradually as I have time to work on them and acquire the necessary art assets.

My latest project is an Ultimate Jordan Roster (name subject to change) for NBA Live 08, which I'd also be looking to convert for use with NBA Live 2005, NBA Live 06, and NBA Live 07. It contains historical teams celebrating Michael Jordan's career (1984-2003): 15 of MJ's teams and 15 selected opponents, one for each season he played in the NBA.

As with the Fictional Basketball League, this is something that I'll be working on whenever I'm able to, so I'm not setting any release date. If a few people from the community would like to get involved, contributions of historical team/player art and the like would be very much appreciated!

Re: Andrew's Updates | Ultimate Jordan Roster Raw Demo

Postby Andrew on Thu Apr 09, 2015 12:53 am

So, the Ultimate Jordan Roster is definitely still a thing that's happening. As I mentioned in Episode #113 of the NLSC Podcast, I've been working on it. Thanks to BAYAG, I've got a bunch of artwork already in place, and at present, I believe all the starters and the key bench players should all have real faces and portraits. The team art is pretty well covered too.

An overview of the current status...

  • All 15 of Michael Jordan's teams have at least eight players, so no current players are filling out the roster while they wait to be finished.
  • At present, only five of the opponents have at least eight players. The '87 Hawks, '88 Pistons, '90 Cavaliers, '91 Lakers, '92 Blazers, '93 Suns, '95 Knicks, '96 SuperSonics, '97 Jazz, and '98 Jazz have a few players in place, with plenty to create.
  • As I said, a lot of major players have faces and portraits that they're currently using, or are ready to go once they're created. Some players who I've already created are missing faces, and I don't have faces for all of the ones I have yet to create. The plan is to use suitable generic faces until such time as I have real ones to use.
  • The team artwork is in place, for the most part. Most of the logos are correct; a couple need to be fixed up, but I'll take care of that.
  • The '96 SuperSonics logos, court, and jerseys from BAYAG's Finals Challenge mod are actually their '95 designs. I can update the logos, but if some people are willing to help me out with jerseys and the court, that'd be fantastic. As it stands, the '95 stuff still looks great and I'm using it in the meantime, as it's closer to being accurate than the later Sonics stuff (or, you know, Thunder artwork).
  • I've yet to update ratings and bio data. Because I've been duplicating players as necessary, ratings and data likes Years Pro aren't accurate to the season. I'll be getting to that after I have at least eight players on every team and thus playable line-ups with some semblance of accuracy.
  • A few more era-specific faces would be great, but what I've got will certainly suffice for the moment. It's not a huge priority at present, but if there are any face patchers who would like to give it a go, that'd be most welcome.
  • Conversions for 2005-07 will come later, once everything's in place, and I can enlist some help in converting art for 2005 and 06.

I'd like to release a couple more demo versions, which like the initial release, will have inaccuracies and be very much a work in progress. However, the next demo release will look a lot more detailed than the concept demo that's out at the moment. The first stable release probably won't include 100% complete rosters, but will have at least eight players on each squad (accurate starters and key bench players), so it'll definitely be playable. Subsequent releases will round out the rosters and replace artwork as necessary (and if possible). I also have some assets to add some bonus teams, but I'm concentrating on finishing the 30 teams currently in the roster.

The roster is being designed for maximum compatibility with any current roster updates, by not overwriting any files. Well, you might find a few missing Legends faces get overwritten, but I think you'll find it's for the best (and in most cases, I think they're the same anyway). The idea is that you'll be able to install any demo or stable releases alongside any of the NLSC updates from recent years, or NBA Action '15, and have each roster use the appropriate art files. Each demo release will update its own files as necessary, as will stable releases.

And now, a few screenshots:
