Im tired of this happening , So Im gonna Try it.

This thread is to help everyone from making a big mistake. I am tired of Live Fans going to the 2K forums to diss the game it is annoying. Im not gonna be an ahole but I do have an argument.

I used to be a live fan since the first Live game was released in PS2. Sony rules BTW. But with ever addition I lost interest because its not realistic. Thats when I tried 2K games and decided to dump live because it wasnt as good. 2K is more realistic. The one thing I think Live has then 2K or tied is graphics but it has some major BS wit it.

I played both demos and though 2K beat it by a mile. Although Live seemed to have improved it is still not in the same level as 2K.

So why buy Live, what does it have that will convince people to buy it over 2K?

A PC version? :shifty:

Well if 2k released a PC version, but it was all encrypted to the point where we can't mod it, I would still stay with Live.

2k8 has flaws just like live 08 people. It just plays a lot smoother. t's not much more realistic. I find itvery easy to dominate with uknown players in 2k8. I like both so i'll get both

Tue Sep 25, 2007 2:07 am

I'm definately getting 2k8 1st. I'll probably buy Live when the price goes down!!

People are entitled to buy any game they desire.

And people have different opinions on what a good basketball game is.

BTW I love 2k and Live.

With all due respect, the same could be said of 2K fans who go to NBA Live forums such as this one simply to bash Live, especially those who just there to troll. You could say the same for a lot of forums out in cyberspace (Family Guy fans on Simpsons boards and vice versa, for example).

I'm sure that at the end of the day, everyone will make up their mind as to which game they want to buy regardless of what fans of the competition might post on message boards.

I define the realism of a basketball game by its defense.

For all of 2K's graphics, signature shots, physics, etc. They never one even thought about giving you a way to STOP any of the weapons they give the offensive player, and that's why 2K8 fails in my mind.

And no, I'm not talking about silly gimmick defenses that press and trap all game long. If that's the best way to play defense in a basketball game, I don't need it.

2K7 blew live 07 out of the water last year, but IMO after trying out both demos, Live's turned the table in terms of gameplay.

It was far easier to score at will in 2K8's demo than Live's.

For the first time since NBA Live 04, I was actually able to play honest man to man defense and get stops without gambling for steals and blocked shots every single posession. You have no idea how refreshing that was for me.

I realize some people really could care less about defense and are just fine going out and throwing Yao Ming in the middle of a full court press for 48 minutes, and watching him deflect every pass from sideline to sideline, or using full court traps that suck you into them like a black hole. To me, that's not basketball.

I like to know I can go out and put the clamps on people without cheap gimmicks. That constitutes a realistic sim to me. You can have the realistic dunks and sick crossovers and signature floaters. They mean nothing to me if you can't stop them. Shoot, I'd settle just for being able to put a hand in someone's face when they take a jumper, instead of being forced to gamble for blocked shots.

Amen. I like to earn my hoops with team play, know my star is there for the toughest shots, then match up man to man, play hard and honest, make the sport an art and the score becomes irrelevant.
Kareem is double teamed kicks it out to magic, touch pass to worthy, to cooper, beating the rotation, shot drops, hard off the back rim, but nobody sees cause they're already hustling back.

Kstat, you are right on point. I feel what you're saying about the defense, because I love playing Live or 2K against my friends, not online but in person, and I have always hated how the game was fully based on offense and how defense barely played a part in the game. I wish the Live demo had one on one to test the defense on each other but since it doesn't I'm going to have to rent this game before buying it.

kstat, sounds like you've been playing 2k7 online for waaaay too long like myself.

A thing that Live also has, that 2k8 doesn't is how you can push the tempo!! 2k it's hard to really blow past your defender if your TJ ford Or Iverson without using crossover etc. But I somewhat agree with Kstat. IMO I know Once Live really puts their foot down and add some defence and change some of the robotic stuff, their game is blow 2k out of the water. . why cause you have the control over your player, and that's why I preferd live over 2k over the years. Come on NBA Live what are you waiting for

I find in 2k8 that the courts are too short and crowded no room to dribble. None of these games are perfect. Every player in 2k have THE SAME GENRIC CROSSOVERS. When i played LIVE08 they had like 5 different crossovers anmiations. In 2k Tim Duncan crossovers just as
fast as Tony Parker. In Live Tim Duncan actually feels like he has weight
when u play with him.

If u dont believe me check for yourselves
and for the people bashing live................ fuk em

well i started with Bulls Vs Blazers(EA) back in the day.. went to 2k in 2k2.. now i'm back with live in 08, Both games this year offer different things

each to there own i guess

Wed Sep 26, 2007 3:16 pm

Well last year it was a no brainer, 2K7 Ruled. Not because it was very good but because live 07 was really bad. (Im talking about 360 versions, dont know about the others). This year we could have a very good discusion here about the two games. When I started playing 08 demo I was pretty impressed and it is very playable. But personally I was blown away when I played the 2K8 demo. What I liked the most was the AI. It is very unpredictable and very realistic. They look for the open guy most of the time and there are very good defensive strategies. I dont play much online cause I prefere a realistic game and I think online play is all about programing defects being exploited, and also have to much of lagging on my internet connection here in Puerto Rico. So the AI capabilities are very important for me. For now I pick 2K8. And im not a homer, Ive played live since 95 and only played 2k since 2K7. Im sure I'll end up playing both.

Thu Sep 27, 2007 2:55 am

I wil admit that Live has improved but there are still a couple of things that bother me. I have not played the 2K8 demo yet so I cant judged it until thurs(cause I have a PS3).
I played the Live demo and I know they worked on the defense, perhaphs too much. I is nothing like 2K because this time it was hard to score the defense was always on you and you have to either get open or send a prayer to score most of the times. Also every time I try a hookshot the ball bounces of the rim and never gets kind rolls. I mean this is good and all but the rolls happen every now and then. Defense in this game I think will be better then 2K it just bothers me that maybe they emphasized too much into it.

Again, this is how real basketball works. You can't just get good shots without working for them and getting your guys open off of some kind of an offensive strategy.

(I won't deny I've been waiting years to say this)If you want an arcadish experience where it's going to take little effort to score, get 2K. If you want a realistic sim experience, get Live 08.

Never thought I'd be able to say that...

Thu Sep 27, 2007 3:04 am

like I said I have not played 2K demo yet, so I dont know if it will be the same way. If it is then I guess that both franchise's have decided to take it to the next level and create an even more realistic sim game. It will just be something different that we will have to get used to. This is not necessarily a bad thing it actually is a bit better since now all those Cavs and Lakers people wont be able to go super bron or kobe on us.

I played both, on the 360, i loved the freestyle crossovers and loved that the superstar feature is gone, the movement is great in 08 i didnt really feel like i was playing basketball in 2k8 i was using the crossover over and over again and dunking on duncan over and over again.

Wow! I can't believe how long this topic has gotten. I mean, this is simply a NBA LIVE forum... Although there is room for debate, I figured this topic would have been locked a long time ago...

It's all just so zany.
