I played Fifa till Fifa 2000 and then turn back to PES since PES 3 ..... so yeah i know what you mean 
.... this is the exact same problem and it changes the whole experience...
in live, the ball goes through the legs, the back, the arm, the feet..... call it the magic ball...
seriously buy a XBox 360, it's really really worth it...and 2K8 may be even better !
