Quickstrike..............

Postby sdot_thadon on Mon Oct 01, 2007 12:20 pm

Finally got a chance to sit down with the demo, I was impressed with the graphics and new features but...........Is it just me or is quickstrike the same as the freestyle dribbling system with nicer animations? The directions on the analog stick get the same results as previous games. Am I missing some moves?

Its different because with Quickstrike there are new animations and you are able to break out of animations. Imagine, you see Allen Iverson against his defender, so, if you were using Freestyle Control, Iverson would do a crossover to the left, and after he does it probably have space on the right, but if he tries to do another crossover, the defence already see's it and moves. If you were using Quickstrike you would do the crossover, and then quickly be able to break out of the animation and do another crossover and burn your defender.

Well from what I see the breaking out of animations thing is not what it's touted as. I still get caught in canned crossover animations, are there any in game vids(not EA's ads) that show what it can do?
If I press analog right or left, I get the same move from live 06 but prettier, up gives me a spin move(same as 06), down gives me a behind the back move(same as 06). Changing directions with the stick on the move gives me a crossover(just like 06). My question is besides new animations of the same moves what else can I do?

It has it's advantages. . I just keep things simple with all these controls. U just have to know when to pull off moves.

it's better than the random juke moves from 2k7.

In terms of performing moves it's very similar to Freestyle in that right to left movements (and vice versa) execute crossover dribbles and so forth but in terms of being able to break out of animations such as interrupting the dribble to shoot or pass it's better in my opinion.

If you hold up on the right analog stick you'll perform a half/fake spin that I find pretty slick. I became quite addicted to that move when I first got my hands on the game back in June.

Oh, ok that's what I'm looking for. I like the smoother animation, but I felt like it was another case of ea giving a catchy name to something that is already there. Are ther any more moves that have been discovered? Maybe with higher rated ball handlers we'll get something else?

Yeah, I don't like 2k's dribbling moves.

2k dribbling= unrealistic, just wiggle the stick long enough and you'll get a dunk for your troubles.

I guess it is in a way since it's labelling an update to the animations/dribbling control system that's coming under an umbrella term that has a name suitable for marketing purposes. As long as it works they can call it whatever they want, in my opinion. ;)

Here's a cheat sheet detailing the moves you can perform with Quickstrike.
