Monthly Recap Part 2 of 2

Image

Green = Team Leader in..

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Team Monthly Report

What went right:
• We made it to the playoffs!
• Embiid comes back next week!
• Randle is a lock to win the Most Improved Player of the Year
• Mudiay and Oubre are battling for the Rookie of the Year
• Randle, at one point, was a candidate for MVP!
• We are leading the league in Assists and FG%!

What went wrong:

• Embiid missed a lot of time because of his injury
• Carroll hasn't been contributing as much as I would like him to.
• Napier and McRoberts' morale are so low

What to expect next month:
• WINS WINS WINS. Embiid is back and Randle's been playing great so far. Let's just hope he continues the way he plays with Embiid on the court

Player Reviews

Kristaps Porzingis

I've been on that Porzingis hype train since I saw him. I hope he does develop here in LA, though, with Embiid and Randle.

Rashad Vaughn
I don't know why but I just like developing rookies and seeing how far they can go. At first, I was skeptic about Vaughn since he went undrafted in my association even though he got drafted in the 1st round in real life. When I signed him, I went straight to the gym and tried playing him and soon I fell in love with his shooting. He can shoot deep threes and he comes up big in the clutch.

not sure why but this is what his contract looks like in the roster that I used.

Image

btw, he didn't straight up say that he wanted to opt out of his contract, he did only say that he wanted to test his value in free agency this offseason.

The mixture of youth on your squad while still having a veteran presence with Kobe is A1. Hopefully you can make some noise in the playoffs.

out of curiosity, what font would you guys want me to use on future articles? I've used alternating fonts from TNR to Georgia then Calibri and back to Times again. What's the best font that's readable for most of you? Also, the points scoring is about to start this offseason so I'll try and PM everyone who has declared for the draft. Ciao!

Game 1

@ San Antonio

Spurs take first blood in 2OT; 101-104

Image

The Lakers have reached the playoffs for the first time in so many years and they are going all in against the Spurs. The Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs face each other in the quarterfinals and it ended in dramatic fashion.

The Lakers started out slow in the first half of the game, with Randle and Embiid having foul troubles. San Antonio destroyed the Lakers with their three-point shooting. They made 14 of 24 shots, unlike the Lakers who didn't make anything beyond the line going 0 out of 14.

4th quarter came and the Lakers cut down the 16-point deficit and saw the game go to overtime when Randle dunked Kobe's missed three-point attempt. Consecutive turnovers and bad decisions made the Lakers lose in double OT. They ended up with 28 turnovers on 6 quarters in total.

Player of the Game: T. Parker (32 pts, 11 asts, 3 stls)

Other Notable Performers:

Lakers:
J. Randle (34 pts, 14 rebs, 7 asts, 4 blks)
E. Mudiay (18 pts, 8 asts)
J. Embiid (12 pts, 20 rebs)

Spurs:
K. Leonard (17 pts, 2 rebs, 1 blk)
A. Williams (10 pts, 9 rebs, 2 asts, 3 stls, 2 blks)
P. Mills (15 pts, 4-4 3PT)

Game 2

@ San Antonio

Lakers take advantage of Duncan-less Spurs; 92-77

Image

The Spurs announced two hours before the game that they will be resting Tim Duncan because of a minor sprain in his ankle that he got when practicing, which means the odds are in the Lakers’ favor tonight.

Los Angeles destroyed the Spurs in the paint, scoring 62 points compared to San Antonio’s 26. The Lakers also held a favourable advantage in rebounding where they garnered 16 offensive rebounds and 32 defensive rebounds, totaling to 48 rebounds compared to the Spurs’ 32.

It was a close game going in the 2nd half but quick, decisive runs by the Lakers bench players like Vaughn and Johnson gave them a 15-point lead after the third quarter.

Player of the Game: J. Randle (23 pts, 13 rebs, 1 ast)

Other Notable Performers:

Lakers:
S. Johnson (20 pts, 4 rebs)
K. Oubre (17 pts, 5 rebs, 2 asts)
J. Embiid (16 pts, 11 rebs, 2 blks)

Spurs:
T. Parker (26 pts, 3 rebs, 6 asts)
M. Ginobili (16 pts, 6 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls)
K. Leonard (16 pts, 6 rebs, 2 asts, 2 stls)

Series: San Antonio [1 - 1] Los Angeles

Your frontcourt played really well with Duncan not in the paint. Who is checking Parker though? He has gone off the first two games.

It doesn't matter who I put against Parker. Mudiay's always in foul trouble because of that sleeky bastard.

But the thing is, he's been shooting poorly ever since Game 1. He shot 43% in the regular season but he's now shooting at around 28-32% FG. He's just attempting too many shots, that's why he's having high scoring games.

Game 3

vs San Antonio

Leonard sinks in floater to get 2-1 advantage; 78-80

Image

The Lakers started slow, shooting at 20% in the first quarter with Mudiay, Oubre, and Randle not making any shots. The Spurs however came out firing on all cylinders as they plowed down the Lakers in the first quarter with 7 three-pointers, 4 of those were a part of a 12-0 run by them.

Fortunately, the Lakers came to their senses late in the 2nd quarter where they battled it out in the paint. They managed to cut the Spurs' 15-point lead to just 4 at the end of the 1st half.

Early in the 3rd quarter, Lakers Center, Joel Embiid, seem to have suffered yet another injury on the floor while he was going up to get the rebound. He was assisted off the court and carried to the locker room by his teammates.

4th quarter came and we see both teams trading baskets. The Lakers depended on Rashad Vaughn and Stanley Johnson for contribution versus the duo of Mills and Green. Minutes later and they are now tied at 78-all with just 40 seconds remaining. Kobe seemed to be the go-to guy for the Lakers, whilst ignoring his shooting for tonight as he was 1 of 8, when they tried to make all the plays for him but sadly, he came up empty after 3 different plays and 3 offensive rebounds by Randle.

The Spurs took advantage of the situation and read what was supposed to be the last play for Kobe and Leonard successfully stole the ball from the inbounds play after. The game ended with a buzzer-beating floater by Kawhi Leonard to seal the win for San Antonio.

Player of the Game: K. Leonard (26 pts, 6 rebs, 2 asts, 1 blk, 3-4 3PT)

Other Notable Performers:

Lakers:
E. Mudiay (15 pts, 3 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls)
S. Johnson (12 pts, 3 rebs, 2 stls)
J. Randle (11 pts, 9 rebs, 3 asts, 2-10 FG)

Spurs:
T. Duncan (8 pts, 9 rebs)
T. Parker (8 pts, 2 rebs, 9 asts)
M. Ginobili (8 pts, 4 rebs, 4 asts)

NOOOOOO not the buzzer beater. That is THE worst way to lose a playoff game especially after all those misses at the end.

I knew as soon as I seen the title that it was Embid that went down. He always seems to miss a whole bunch of games.
