Embiid suffers broken foot, will miss 4 to 6 weeks

Image

Joel Embiid didn't play in his entire rookie season because of a stress fracture on his right foot. Now, in his second season, he is averaging 12.7 ppg, 8.8 rpg, and 1.8 bpg, not bad for his debut season following a comeback from a major injury.

He was playing well for the Lakers when he joined the squad in mid-December and even had a 30-15 game in January. But it seems like his debut season is going to be cut short by yet another injury. According to the Lakers' staff, Embiid's foot which he had surgery to repair last year has been re-broken.

Embiid is expected to have surgery to repair his injured foot some time over the next few days. His timetable on his recovery is estimated to be 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how well the surgery goes and how it heals.

Once surgery was considered an option, it shouldn't have come as a total surprise that a break could have been a possibility, but it's disappointing nonetheless. If Embiid's foot is already so weak at age 21, it's hard to imagine how he'll hold up by 30.

Even though the young big man showed his determination to come back on the court and help the team, he is very unlikely to participate in a basketball game this season. The only possible way is if the Lakers actually get to the playoffs but even that idea seems wild and far-fetched for Lakers GM Kevin Parker Sr. When asked, GM Parker said to the media:

"Joel missed his entire rookie season with an injury. This year, in his debut season, he's suffered sore knees and foot but still played through it and look where it got us. His health will now be our top priority this offseason. We need him next year for us to be contenders."

Monthly Recap Part 2 of 2

Image

Green = Team Leader in..

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Team Monthly Report

What went right:
• We won 5 straight games before the All-Star Break!
• We, at one point, were above .500 and was 2 wins away from the 8th seed.
• Randle still is improving his game and is close to leading the team in points per game.
• Mudiay has now won 3 of the last 4 Rookie of the Month Award and is on his way to being named the Rookie of the Year.
• Stanley Johnson seems to be getting used to his 7th man role in the team and is back to his contributing ways.
• DeMarre Carroll is back and he looks good. We can finally play some perimeter defense on the remainder of the season.

What went wrong:

• Joel Embiid goes down with a broken toe and will be about for 2 to 3 months.
• Sim Bhullar does not seem happy with his role in the team and has actually announced that he is going to test free agency this summer.
• Still no progress with Porzingis. His late shot release makes it hard to shoot over tall, quick players.
• Nick Young’s role has now been downgraded to the 8th man of the team because of his continuous struggle contributing to the team.

What to expect next month:
I just checked the calendar and I already know we are going to get owned this month. First opponent of the month? Cavaliers. There are only two teams that is below 500 that we are going to face next month and those are the Nuggets and the Timberwolves. Expect some loses, Lakers fans. Just…… hold on.

Player Reviews

Shabazz Napier

I was a big fan of him before he played in the pros and even though we’ve seen him play in the NBA, I think he still hasn’t shown us what he can do because of the crowded Miami backcourt. I do not plan on retaining him for more than 2 years, though since I have massive plans when Free Agency begins.

DeMarre Carroll
The Junkyard Dog. When I saw him at the bottom of the Free Agents list, I quickly signed him a deal because I know we’ll benefit in the future. We’re not trying to win it this season so I really don’t care even if he’s out of the whole season. I just want him back when Year 3 begins so we can go back to our winning ways and finally contend for the first time in years.

Randle vows to play better to help Lakers reach the playoffs

Julius Randle has a little bit of something to say to the media on a Lakers Podcast. The young forward said that he'll step up his game and be more dominant on the low block this upcoming weeks.

"My brother Joel (Embiid) is out for a month, maybe two at best, so I got to cover for him. I promise that I am going to work harder and contribute more to the team now that I'm the only physical presence we have down low."

and when he was asked about his fatigue and overall health, the forward replied:

"Well, at the start of the season, I complained a little bit because of the minutes that I was getting. Coach wanted me to play for almost the entire game but I just can't. But now, I know I can do it. I just have to believe in myself and keep on doing what I've been doing since the start of this season. I'm not worried about being injured, I just want to showcase everything that I have so we can finally come back to the playoffs."

The young forward averaged only 8.9 ppg and 6 rpg last season but has seen it grow exponentially this season. Randle is now averaging 15.7 ppg and 10.0 rpg, paired with 2 bpg.

It's so hard to keep this type of thread updated. Still good work you have done here. I plan to recreate your Lakers in my association to face my Kings. I have a few one more season to get through to get this past draft class. Maybe I can draft Myles Turner or one D'angelo Russell for his passing.

Randle switches to the 5th spot

Julius Randle seems to be very confident when he said to the media that he'll be sliding in that Center spot previously owned by rookie Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis, who is 7'1 in height, replaced Embiid a week ago for the starting spot when Embiid broke his right foot. Porzingis will now be sliding to the Power Forward slot.

Randle has been far better than Porzingis and is actually a candidate for the Most Improved Player Award this year for all the efforts he's put through this season. Randle is currently averaging 18.2 ppg and 10.7 rpg this season while Porzingis is only averaging below 5 ppg.

When Coach Byron Scott was asked about the rotation changes, he said, "Randle's just stronger and more skilled down low than Porzingis ever was. Zinger is a stretch four and he should stay that way. Meanwhile, Randle is a monster on the boards and with his post-up abilities, he can dominate matchups."

I've been making him the star of this team instead of relying on rookies like Mudiay and Johnson and vets like Kobe. I still need to figure out how to get him to average 25+ ppg without attempting more than 20+ shots too  .

A young team with a winning record. What I want to see from this thread is what will these guys do in the playoffs.
Are they to young? Are they ready? Can they suprise the entire league?

-Julius Randle is balling out of his mind right now but is he Franchise player or just a flash in the pan.
