"The Memphis Grizzlies announced, that their GM, Chris Wallace, has been involved in a car accident. He is unfortunately seriously injured and won't be able to execute his job for an unknown time. His former assistant, Sean Bright, will take over the seat, till Chris Wallace is able to come back. With the fact, that Sean Bright has no experience in this job, everybody hopes, that Wallace will make a quick recovery. Let's see how Bright can succeed."

Game 1

Image

@SAS 84-76
M. Conley 20 pts, 6 ast.
Duncan 18 pts, 6 reb, 3 ast, FG 9/14

"The Memphis Grizzlies had to start their season in San Antonio against the finalist of the last years play-offs and with the bad news about their GM, Chris Wallace, the season could have started better for them. But the Grizzlies started well and went into the 2nd half with an 8 point lead. Both teams were struggling to get shots down which showed up in their bad shooting percentages. The Spurs only shut down 37% percent from the field and Memphis were able to shoot at least 40% which brought them the win over the slow starting Spurs.
Tony Parker led the Spurs in scoring with 23 points. Tim Duncan also showed up some good numbers with 18 points and 6 rebounds while shooting 64% from the field and also Tiago Splitter were able to produce good stats with a double-double (10 points/11 rebounds). Although their starters showed frequent performances, it was about their bench player not being able to score. For the Grizzlies it was only Mike Conley, who started in the season with an outstanding performance. He scored 20 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 1 block with only one turnover and 53% from the field.

Both teams started slow, but there is a long way to go."

Z-Bo talking about the trade rumours surrounding him:

"But yeah, it bothers me. It hurts a little bit. I can’t deny that. But it goes to show you that there ain’t no loyalty in this game. It seems like you only get loyalty in certain organizations. You see it in winning organizations like the Spurs, the Lakers, the Heat." NBA.com

"Go figure,” Z-Bo said following the Grizzlies shootaround at New Orleans Arena on Friday. “Memphis is a place that I’ve come to love and call home and it’s where I would definitely like to retire. I haven’t made any secret of that. Everybody out there knows how I feel. “I look at it like this: I understand it’s a business. I really do understand that. This is a small market team and money plays a factor. I understand all that. It’s different now. I don’t know if it’s just changes in (salary cap) rules or just a change in the way of the world. Like I said, it’s a business." NBA.com

those are no fictional statements. i also thought about trading him in my story, as the rumours started, but he's such a cool guy and a great sportsman. unfortunately he's the only valuable subject that i can make a move with. i like the grizzlies, because we're tough and hustle hard, but we also lack outside shooting and explosiveness. we're playing slow big man focused basketball, which is not the modern way of playing the game.

a change will happen, uncertain who will be involved

Game 10

Image

@SAC 98-112
R. Gay 28 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast, 4 stls
I. Thomas 21 pts, 9 ast
M. Conley 24 pts, 9 ast, 3 stls, 9 to

No Mercy
"Rudy Gay showed no mercy for his former team. He's instantly performing well for the kings after his trade and led them to a 112-98 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies couldn't stop the ball movement between Gay and the new starting point guard Isiah Thomas, who was able to add 21 points and 9 assists to the scoreboard. And when them both couldn't put it in, it was DeMarcus Cousins(19 pts, 10 reb) to grab the rebound and make use of the second chance. The Memphis players had heavy issues with keeping the ball in their hands, which resulted in 22 turnovers overall. After the game, we had the chance to get Sean Bright, the interim GM of the Grizzlies, in front of the Microphone for a quick statement about the game:

"22 turnovers aren't what we're looking for to score. I think we played a big cocky and tried to show too many flashy passes and alley oops, but that's not our type of game. We want to keep it simple and get easy points in the paint. But that's ok. We have good a record for now and we can build up upon that. And I surely know about the trade rumours surrounding Z-Bo. He is a great person and former All-Star and we won't trade him, if we aren't sure that it's neccessary for the team to get better. We are actually in advanced talks over a trade which will NOT include Zach Randolph and I will maybe be able to announce a deal in a couple of hours."

Interesting situation in Memphis with a large payroll and strong team, but may not have enough to make it all the way.

Good luck with your association, and I'll be following it.

"That we would make a deal in the next few days was already mentioned before and finally I am able to announce that it's done. Because of Mike Miller still suffering injury troubles we had to get another marksman and we found him in Jimmer Fredette. Unfortunately we had to give up on Jerryd Bayless to make it happen, but the Kings were looking for a point guard back-up and we were in need of outside shooting, so I think it will work out for us. Jimmer has enough talent to develop quickly and be a viable spot-up shooter for the team. He will be right on the court in the next game against Golden State."

GAME 12

Image

@GS 90-110
A. Iguodala 28 pts, 7 reb, 6 ast
S. Curry 26 pts, 6 reb, 4 ast

Jimmer is in
"The Memphis Grizzlies went through their 3rd loss in a row, when Jimmer Fredette made his first appearance for his new team. He scored three 3-pointers to make it a total of 13 points in 18 minutes. That's what Sean Bright was hoping for, when he sent Jerryd Bayless in exchange to Sacramento. Aside from the losing streak, there are more bad news for the Grizzlies fans. Mike Conley will be out for 1-2 weeks due to a sprained ankle, that he is still suffering from since the Clippers game. An insider told us, that the Grizzlies GM will check out the free agents market to fill the hole. Jamaal Tinsley, who has been waived by the Utah Jazz, could be a nice fit. It makes sense to add another piece to the point guard position, because Nick Calathes doesn't seem to be ready to lead a play-off team's offense"

Game 17

Image

PHX 81-92
T. Prince 21 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast, FG 9/15
E. Bledsoe 27 pts, 6 reb, 5 ast

Sean Bright about trading Calathes to the Clippers:
"As Nick came from Russia into the NBA he was dreaming of the glamour in a big city, fancy cars, women, nightlife. We thought, that we could convince him of the familiar atmosphere here in Memphis and that's why we've picked him in the draft. Unfortunately, he's not happy because he promised to his family that he will be playing in a big city like New York or LA and he wants them to be proud of him. We don't force anybody to stay, so we made a deal with the Clippers. We get Maalik Wayns and a 2nd round pick, which is satisfying for us. Not so satisfying are our injury problems including Mike Conley and Tayshaun Prince. Tayshaun went out of the Suns game with 2 broken fingers on his right hand and will will be out for 4-6 weeks."

everything up to date now. the year is almost over and i'm very happy with chosing the grizzlies. kinda challenging for me because the best players are their big men and i'm not a really good post player, but it's fun getting into it! PPG are dropping because of prince being out, so i hope he will be back soon. that's it from me for this year but i'm excited to go on in the next week. so, merry x-mas and a happy new year!

Blowout against the Rockets

"With Harden being out for the game due to knee problems and D12 not being able to play more than the first half, because he has sprained his right ankle, the Rockets were struggling to get baskets. They scored only 31 points in the second half, while the Grizzlies were finishing them off with 58 points in the last two quarters. Next to Mike Conley, it was Quincy Pondexter who led the team in scoring. He shot 7 of 9 field goal attempts for 18 points from the bench, with 4 makes from behind the arc. The Grizzlies look very good so far into the season. Let's see if they can hold their spot on top of the southwest division."

"Two losses at home are not what we had in mind for the ending of this year. It seemed like the players totally lost their focus. It can't be true, that the opponents starting back court players score over 60 points in both games. We have to settle our defense to be ready for the next three games on the road. But even though we finished the year not optimally, 2013 was a successfull year for the franchise and I wouldn't be disappointed, if we could make a deep play off run again in 2014!"
