Re: About Bucking Time! Bucks (32-29) Bucks Reportedly Sold?

Milwaukee Bucks sold to unknown group?

Image

Amidst a disappointing west coast tour, the Milwaukee Bucks lost 3 games in a row to the Clippers, Warriors and now the lowly Kings. A season which once promised so much, now seems to be spiraling downwards. Since Larry Sanders injury 2 weeks ago, the Bucks have not looked the same. Their defence has weakened, and the offense comes to a standstill. A far cry from some of the free flowing and high scoring of weeks gone by. The Bucks need Sanders back soon or could completely slip out of the playoff race. But is there a silver lining?

Bucks fans never hold out false hope for one. Senator Herb Kohl has been pushing hard to sell the team this last few months. And for once he had a good strong product on the floor. GM John Hammond made a few good moves, and bad. But the good mostly outweighed the bad. The Bucks hired Glenn 'Big Dog' Robinson as a player development coach, and most recently the new assistant GM Gary 'The Glove' Payton. A feel good nostalgic throwback for the franchise. Early last year the Bucks were almost sold to Chicago Billionaire Michael Heisley, before Heisleys health deteriorated and the deal fell threw.

In recent weeks Kohl had been linked with a deal to sell the Bucks to Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti. However it appears the two did not come to a deal. Speculation is abound that a group or pair of west coast investors had put a substantial offer on the table for the Bucks. Kohl is believed to be hard pressed to turn the deal down, but he still has some reservations. It is hoped the new owners can be more successful in securing a new arena for the Bucks as the BMO Harris Bradley Center is badly in need of repair. Kohl was spotted heading into a restaurant in downtown Sacramento before the Bucks - Kings game. The restaurant was hired out by Kohl to have a private meeting with the prospective owners.

A decision is expected by the end of the week, with a public announcement to follow. The Bucks fans are beginning to get frustrated with the lack of facts forthcoming, having hung on to the tidbits of information all year. Stay tuned Milwaukee...

Bucks sold to Steve Ballmer?

Image

Anyone get a feeling of déjà vu yet? The rumor mill has started turning again. The Milwaukee Bucks owner Senator Herb Kohl has agreed to sell the franchise to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Ballmer is retiring from his role at Microsoft with a hefty bank account. He is spear heading a group effort to buy the Bucks along with the usual candidate, Chris Hansen. This time around Ballmer is fronting the reported sale, as Hansen's image has been slightly damaged from the fallout with the Kings deal. The two sides have agreed a deal, however once again, the sale is subject to the board of governors approval. Last year the a similar move to purchase the Kings was rejected. We all know what happened there. Expect the same to happen again here. Ballmer and Hansen have one goal in mind. Bring the NBA back to Seattle.

Its no shock that Kohl is selling the Bucks. It is a shock that he is selling them to a group who will almost certainly try to relocate them. The Milwaukee Bucks fans will not be happy with this decision. Hopes of a quiet retirement for the senator are wishful thinking. Ballmer and Hansen better have a site in Seattle for Kohl to live, because its the only place in the US he could safely live. With a reported $500 million offer, the Bucks owner did not receive any other offer close to that, and found it impossible to refuse.

Expect the wheels to start turning on this one pretty quickly. Its now March 16th. If the group want to purchase and relocate the Bucks, paperwork must be signed and sealed to the NBA before April 1st. The clock is ticking. David Sterns term is almost up, will he decide to let Seattle get their team back this time?

Re: About Bucking Time! Bucks (34-32) NBA to Vote on Bucks s

NBA to vote on Bucks sale this Friday.

Image

The NBA board of governors will meet Thursday night to discuss the potential sale of the Bucks to Steve Ballmer. Following a few hours discussion the board members will recess until Friday at 12pm noon. They will then initiate a vote of the 30 owners to find out if the sale will be approved. Interestingly this time around, the Ballmer/Hansen group has not filed for relocation yet. The group will still have another 10 days after the vote to file the necessary paperwork. Last year the Board of Governors had to vote on both issues separately, but ultimately interlinked the two decisions.

The Bucks last night beat the Portland Trailblazers who could become the main rivals of a relocated franchise. Only time will tell. The effect of the speculation and uncertainty over the franchise's future is clearly causing problems on and off the court. The Bucks who started so brightly and were at the top of the east standings have fallen dramatically. Now in 6th place, a half game ahead of the Pistons, they are in danger of dropping out of the playoff race. An absolute disaster for the team. Seattle want a team back badly, but there will be some major work to be done restructuring and rebuilding this team.

Bucks sale to Steve Ballmer approved by NBA B.O.G.

Image

The NBA Board of Governors have voted. Albeit the 30 NBA owners. They have voted 16-14 in favor of allowing the sale of the Bucks to Steve Ballmer and his group of investors (Chris Hansen et al). In a shocking turn of events, about 1 year after the Sacramento Kings debacle, the team of Ballmer and Hansen were at the crossroads again with the B.O.G. Not many people expected this result. You would have thought Ballmer and Hansen would have kept their heads down, and waited out the possible expansion of the league in 2015-16 season. But no, they went right back at it, with plan B, Plan Bucks more like. From what we hear, the vote was locked at 14-14 with only the Lakers and Thunder left to vote. It should have been a dead heat.

But after voting against the group last year, Clay Bennett had a major change of heart, and decided to approve the sale of the Bucks. You have got to wonder what may have persuaded him to change his view. It will certainly make for some interesting stories over the next few weeks. Ballmer and Hansen now have to file the relocation papers to the league and have about a week to get them passed. You would assume now that they would be granted permission, because the board is fully aware of the situation from last year.

Was it Sterns regret over hurting Seattle fans for a 2nd time last year that changed it? Or Adam Silver exerting his power and hoping to start fresh with one of the most storied and well supported cities back in the fold next season, the 1st in his tenure. Either way its beginning to look a lot like the NBA is heading out of Milwaukee and back to Seattle.

Bucks owner files for relocation.

Image

The Milwaukee Bucks new owner was introduced today. Steve Ballmer in his introduction told the NBA on Sunday that he plans to move the team to the city of Seattle for the 2014-15 season. This is not a major surprise to the people of Milwaukee and Seattle. Ballmer and minority owner Chris Hansen have been pursuing a franchise to relocate to Seattle since early last season. When the Sonics were on their way out of town Ballmer did his best to buy the team from Clay Bennett and get an arena plan put together to save basketball in Seattle.

Ballmer and Hansen have agreed an arena deal for downtown Seattle. The Arena will not be ready for the coming season, but the 2015-16 season. The team if relocated will play in the renovated KeyArena for the 2014-15 season only.

If the Bucks are allowed to relocate from Milwaukee to Seattle, it would be the fourth time this decade that an NBA team has pulled up stakes. Others to do so in the last three decades:

Switching Surroundings
Old city New city
2008 Sonics Seattle Oklahoma City
2002 Hornets Charlotte New Orleans
2001 Grizzlies Vancouver Memphis
1985 Kings Kansas City Sacramento
1984 Clippers San Diego Los Angeles
1979 Jazz New Orleans Salt Lake City
1978 Clippers Buffalo San Diego

"Today we notified commissioner [David] Stern that we intend to relocate the Bucks to Seattle, if we succeed in negotiating the early lease termination." Ballmer said in a lengthy statement. NBA spokesman Tim Frank confirmed the league received notice and is referring the matter to the owners' relocation committee.

Bucks granted permission to relocate to Seattle

Image

On the eve of a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Milwaukee Bucks franchise has announced that they have been approved to relocate by the NBA owners' relocation committee. They have also set a date to announce its name and team colours.

Seattle has a rich basketball tradition with the Sonics having played there from 1967-2008. In 2008 the controversial sale of the Sonics to Clay Bennett led to the franchise’s relocation to Oklahoma City. Bennett is currently the chairman of the NBA’ s relocation committee and its believed he helped push the deal through.

Ballmer cares deeply about his community and ever since the Sonics left there has been letters, emails, blogs, public demonstration and an award winning documentary that have kept the loss of the Sonics in the spotlight and Steve Ballmer has finally set things in motion to get a team back in Seattle, where professional basketball belongs.

The franchise said today that it would unveil the name and color’s simultaneously on its Web site and at a downtown event on June 25th, a few days after the NBA finals.

Ballmer has recently signed a year long lease deal to rent the KeyArena, which is currently undergoing a major revamp.

The lack of city funding cost Seattle one franchise, and Ballmer is anxious not to let it happen a second time. Ballmer and Hansen have just signed off on the construction of a downtown Seattle arena, which will be completed in time for next season, 2015-16.
