About Bucking Time! Bucks (39-43) Bucks out of the Playoffs

The Milwaukee Bucks are a professional basketball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. They are part of the Central Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association. The team was founded in 1968 as an expansion team, and currently plays at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl is the owner of the team, with John Hammond as general manager. The Bucks have won one league title (1971), two conference titles (1971, 1974), and thirteen division titles (1971–74, 1976, 1980–86, 2001). They have featured such notable players as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Sidney Moncrief, Oscar Robertson, Bob Lanier, Ray Allen, Andrew Bogut, Michael Redd and Jon McGlocklin.

Record: 38-44: 8th in East

The Bucks may have made the playoffs, but they were dominated by the Heat and quickly swept as was expected. The Bucks should not have even made the playoffs with their record, but the bottom of the East playoff bracket is a joke. Although, since they did make the playoffs, the season has to be considered a success, since they missed out last year. Coach Scott Skiles quit half way through the season and interim coach, Jim Boylan was inept as a replacement. Their high scoring backcourt of Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings, was incredibly inefficient, but that was how the team played, through those guards and how they played, so went the team. Larry Sanders broke out and is the franchise center going forward, but other than that, the team is a mystery, with Ellis, Jennings, JJ Redick and Mike Dunleavy, 5 of the team’s top 6 scorers all now free agents.

Bucks MVP: Larry Sanders: 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game

Image

Picking the MVP of this team, is extremely difficult. Ellis may have averaged 19 points per game and 6 assists, but he only shot 41% from the field and 29% from three, and had 3 turnovers per game. Jennings averaged 17.5 points and 6.5 assists, but shot under 40% from the field. Neither of these player scream value, but Larry Sanders was excellent for the Bucks and the young center, was their most valuable player. He led the team in rebounds and was second in the NBA in blocks and became the defensive backbone of the Bucks. He should be one of the best defensive players in the league for years to come and has an improving offensive game.

Ridnour Traded to Bucks

Image

Point guard Luke Ridnour is returning to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a three-team trade involving Minnesota and Oklahoma City.

The 32-year-old Ridnour played for the Bucks for two seasons from 2008-'10 before signing a free-agent deal with the Timberwolves, where he has played for the last three years.

Minnesota needed to clear enough salary cap space to sign free-agent forward Corey Brewer to a three-year, $15 million contract. And the Timberwolves were able to do it by reaching agreement on a sign-and-trade with free agent Kevin Martin and by sending Ridnour and his $4.3 million salary to the Bucks.

The Bucks also received a 2014 second-round draft pick from Minnesota (via the Los Angeles Lakers) and cash considerations from Oklahoma City as part of the trade. Milwaukee sent the draft rights to 2003 second-round pick Szymon Szewczyk to the Thunder as part of the deal.

Oklahoma City received a trade exception in the deal, which became official Thursday night.

Ridnour will be able to return to his natural point guard position with the Bucks after starting all 82 games with Minnesota last season and averaging 11.5 points and 3.8 assists. The 6-foot-2 Ridnour often started at shooting guard and defended much bigger players while playing in tandem with point guard Ricky Rubio.

The 10-year veteran shot 45.3% from the floor and 84.8% from the free throw line.

Minnesota coach Rick Adelman was a strong believer in the toughness of Ridnour and employed him at shooting guard despite his size disadvantage.

"It's amazing he's been able to play every game," Adelman said late in the past season. "He just keeps going out every day."

Ridnour started 50 games and appeared in 72 with Milwaukee in 2008-'09 after arriving in a three-team deal that involved Mo Williams and Desmond Mason leaving the Bucks. The former Oregon star played the first five seasons of his NBA career with the Seattle SuperSonics.

He appeared in all 82 games in his second year with the Bucks, all as a reserve, and played a key role behind rookie point guard Brandon Jennings. Ridnour averaged 10 points and 4.5 assists in his two seasons in Milwaukee.

He has career averages of 10 points, 4.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 722 regular-season games.

Bucks sign OJ Mayo

Image

The Milwaukee Bucks signed free-agent guard O.J. Mayo on Saturday, hoping he will add some much-needed offensive punch to a roster that is searching for some after a summer of upheaval.

The Bucks agreed to terms on a three-year, $24 million contract with Mayo last week. But thanks to a series of moves that general manager John Hammond has in the works, the Bucks had to wait until Saturday to make the contract official.

The 25-year-old Mayo averaged 15.3 points for the Dallas Mavericks last season, and he should have no trouble finding shots in this new-look Bucks lineup.

Hammond executed a sign-and-trade deal with the Suns and Clippers that sent J.J. Redick to Los Angeles and volume shooters Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings could soon be following Redick out the door in Milwaukee.

Ellis is reportedly set to join the Mavericks in Mayo's place and the Bucks have signed restricted free-agent point guard Jeff Teague, who played for new coach Larry Drew in Atlanta, to an offer sheet. The Hawks matched the offer Saturday, sources told ESPN.

Ellis and Jennings were far and away the leaders in scoring and field-goal attempts for the Bucks last season, meaning Mayo should get plenty of opportunities to show he is capable of carrying the scoring load for an entire season.

After spending his first four seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, Mayo hoped to cash in big on the free-agent market last summer. But the money dried up quickly across the league, and he wound up taking a deal with the Mavericks that paid him more than $4 million last season.

He opted out of his two-year deal to test the waters once again, and for a moment it appeared that he could be stuck on the outside looking in for a second straight summer. Mayo's name was near the top of the list of available shooting guards, a list that also included Redick and Ellis from the Bucks and Kevin Martin from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Mayo was inundated with attention when the market opened on July 1, speaking to the Timberwolves, Clippers, Bucks and several other teams. The Clippers pulled off a sign-and-trade that brought Redick to Los Angeles and the Wolves did the same to land Martin from Houston. With the Bucks getting nowhere in talks to bring Ellis back, Hammond shifted his sights to Mayo.

In Milwaukee, Mayo will immediately become an offensive focal point like he was in the first few months of last season in Dallas while star Dirk Nowitzki sat out with a knee injury.

The Bucks added steady veteran point guard Luke Ridnour in a trade with the Timberwolves earlier this week, but still were looking for the kind of player who can get to the basket and score in transition.

Mayo seems to fit that bill. He shot nearly 45 percent from the field, which was the second-highest mark of his career, and showed flashes of potential to be a go-to scorer during the early part of last season while the Mavericks waited for Nowitzki's return. He averaged 20.9 points and shot 52.9 percent from 3-point range in the first month of last season, including a 40-point game at Houston on Dec. 8.

Mayo shot a career-best 40.7 percent from 3-point range last season for the Mavericks, but his production dipped noticeably as the season wore on.

Bucks Sign Delfino and Pachulia

Image

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Bucks have signed free agents Carlos Delfino and Zaza Pachulia.

According to sources, Delfino's deal guarantees $6.5 million in the first two seasons -- $3.25 million per year -- and contains a team option in Year 3 that potentially increases the value of the contract to more than $9 million.

Delfino returns to the Bucks after spending last season with the Houston Rockets, where he averaged 10.6 points in 67 games.

Delfino played for the Bucks for three seasons from 2009-2012. He averaged 10.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 36.6 percent from 3-point range in 178 games with Milwaukee.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that Pachulia's deal is for three years and worth approximately $16 million.

Pachulia returns for his second stint with the Bucks after also spending the 2004-05 season in Milwaukee. The native of Tbilisi, Georgia, averaged 6.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in 74 games for the Bucks. He spent the past eight seasons with Atlanta.

Bucks Designate Gooden As Team's Amnesty Player

Image

The Milwaukee Bucks have waived forward Drew Gooden and designated him as the team’s amnesty player as allowed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, General Manager John Hammond announced today.
Gooden originally signed with the Bucks as a free agent prior to the 2010-11 season. The 11-year NBA veteran appeared in 107 games over three seasons with the Bucks, averaging 11.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest.

Bucks Trade Mbah a Moute to the Kings
Milwaukee acquires a 2016 second round pick and future considerations from Sacramento

The Milwaukee Bucks have traded forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (6-8, 230) to the Sacramento Kings, General Manager John Hammond announced today. The Bucks will receive the more favorable of two 2016 second round draft picks (Sacramento’s own pick or one acquired from New Orleans) and future considerations from the Kings in the transaction.

A five-year NBA veteran, Mbah a Moute appeared in 58 games (45 starts) last season and averaged 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest. Drafted by Milwaukee in the second round (37th overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft, the 26-year old native of Cameroon has played in 335 career games for Milwaukee with averages of 6.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists, while shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 67.9 percent from the free throw line.

Bucks Sign Gary Neal

Image

Free-agent guard Gary Neal reached an agreement on a two-year guaranteed contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, a person familiar with the deal told USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly until the deal was official. The deal is worth nearly $3 million.
Neal turned into a late unrestricted free-agent find after the San Antonio Spurs withdrew their $1.1 million qualifying offer last week. The Spurs already had signed free-agent guard Marco Belinelli and were satisfied with their depth at that position.

Milwaukee rounds out its depth a shooting guard with O.J. Mayo and Neal essentially replacing Monta Ellis (Dallas Mavericks) and J.J. Redick (Los Angeles Clippers). Luke Ridnour can play either guard spot, and now the Bucks will concentrate on restricted free-agent point guard Brandon Jennings.

Neal helped his cause during the NBA Finals, averaging 9.4 points and shooting 46.7% on three-pointers against the Miami Heat.

In three consecutive games against Miami, Neal scored in double-figures, including 24 in San Antonio’s 113-77 Game 3 victory. During that three-game stretch, he made 11-for-17 on three-pointers, including 6-for-10 in Game 3. However, the Heat limited Neal to 12 points and just 2-for-8 on threes in the final three games.
Neal has averaged 9.7 points and shot 39.8% on three-pointers in three NBA seasons.

Jennings and Bucks at impasse over new contract

Image

There are “whispers” that the Milwaukee Bucks are working on a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons involving disgruntled point guard Brandon Jennings, the Racine (Wis.) Journal Times’ Gery Woelfel reported Monday.

The Sporting News’ Sean Deveney reported earlier on Monday that the relationship between the Bucks and Jennings, a restricted free agent, had soured so significantly that Jennings does not want to play for the team next season.

The Bucks signaled that they were preparing for life after Jennings by signing Atlanta Hawks guard Jeff Teague to a four-year, $32 million offer sheet. The Hawks matched that offer, but the situation reportedly made relations more strained between the two parties.

Aside from a sign-and-trade deal, however, options for both sides are limited. For Jennings, at least, the best option could be signing a one-year qualifying option that would pay him $4.5 million next season. He would have to play out next season in Milwaukee, but he would become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

Hammond on the Hotseat after questionable moves

Image

After winning NBA Executive of the Year in 2010, Hammond hasn't given Milwaukee much to look forward to since.

The Brandon Jennings pick and trade for John Salmons helped the Bucks get to the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Since then, Hammond hasn't helped the team much, especially in trades. Acquiring Corey Maggette proved to be pointless, as he was eventually dealt for Stephen Jackson. Jackson, along with Andrew Bogut, was again dealt back to the Warriors for Monta Ellis.

Hammond has a year remaining on his contract. The Bucks seem to be in limbo right now, and Hammond may not have enough time to pull them out of the rut and make another run at the playoffs. This offseason, they let Ellis walk to the Mavericks and signed OJ Mayo as a replacement. Brandon Jennnings has been signed and traded to Detroit for Brandon Knight and Khris Middleton. Zaza Pachulia was incredibly signed on a 3 yr 16m deal to be a backup center.

Gary Neal was given a 2 yr deal for 7m. Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and JJ Redick were traded away for future 2nd round picks. They traded and signed for former Bucks Luke Ridnour and Carlos Delfino. The only player remaining from the failed Tobias Harris trade with the Magic is Ish Smith.

At least he has righted one wrong this year by amnestying Drew Gooden. Gooden was signed to a 4 year deal earning approximately 6-7m every year. By year 2 of that deal, Gooden was already riding the pine. The list goes on. Larry Drew was hired as coach this year and will be under pressure from the outset by Hammond. And maybe unfairly too. He has not been given a strong roster to make the playoffs with.

A mix of average youth prospects, role playing vets and 2 decent potential players in OJ Mayo and Larry Sanders. I dont think they will even get the 8th seed with this team. Only time will tell.

Bucks Sign Captain Jack

Image

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed free agent F-G Stephen Jackson. Jackson who was unattached since being waived by the Spurs last season, was ecstatic to reach an agreement on a 1yr veterans minimum contract. Jackson returns to the Bucks having been traded away last year as part of the Monta Ellis = Andrew Bogut trade. The Bucks needed to sign another body who can play small forward with Carlos Delfino's injury against the 76ers. Delfino has a high ankle sprain and will be unavailable to play for approximately 4 weeks. The Bucks stand at 3-3 so far this season and are on a 3 game win streak.
