ORLANDO MAGIC PRESEASON ROSTER

Image

The Coach, Brian Hill, believed that this was they year. They had a beast in Shaquille O'Neal, a mature Penny Hardaway, the duo of shooters in Nick Anderson and Scott, and the all-terrain Horace Grant..

We just need one more piece.. a solid bench

They began the search of a solid 4 who can give some rest to Shaq and Grant, because Tree Rollins was old and just the only other center..
So the decided to pull the trigger. They sent F Donald Royal to Utah in exchange of FC Tom Chambers

• Chambers has a 14 year experience in the league, but he still can score of the bench. He can be a solid piece in Playoffs.
(+): Experience. He can play the PF and C. Can shoot the three
(-): Not a great defender as Tree Rollins

Tom Chambers Info
Image

Now Coach Hill wanted shooters of the bench, only Brian Shaw was a reliable 3 point shooter.. So they signed Free Agents GF Eric Piatkowski and F Marcus Liberty

• Liberty will be the one of the three men rotation of the bench (along with Shaw and Chambers). He will be one of the scoring threats of the bench
(+): Can shoot the three
(-): Shaq shoot better free throws

Marcus Liberty Info
Image

• Piatkowski was signed to play some minutes when both Anderson and Scott are in the bench
(+): He's a rookie, doesn't need ton of minutes. Can shoot the 3
(-): Awful defender

Eric Piatkowski Info
Image

G Brooks Thompson and F Jeff Turner were waived

THE OFFICIAL AND FINAL ROSTER

Team Captain: Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway

PLAYERS COMPETITION

Inside the team, some players decided to compete each other in some categories. Here is the list

POINTS: Hardaway vs Shaq
REBOUNDS: Shaq vs Grant
3PT %: Scott vs Anderson vs Hardaway
FG %: Shaq vs Grant vs Rollins (yeah, the Tree!)
POINTS OF THE BENCH: Chambers vs Liberty
3PT % OF THE BENCH: Chambers vs Liberty vs Shaw vs Piatkowski

ORLANDO STARTS STRONG. DODGE THE BULLETS

Image

In a very offensive game The Magic beat the Bullets 124 - 111. Shaquille O'Neal led the game with 38 points, 8 rebounds and 9 blocks, imposing his defensive presence

The Magic, poised to be an All Attack Team, had trouble to expand the lead, when they reached a 10 point lead, the Bullets rallied to put the game even. But in the 4th, with 2 consecutive threes from Scott and 1 from Anderson, they escaped with a 17 point lead and never relinquish.

Penny had 29 points, 15 assists and Scott had 26 on 6-10 from deep.

For the Bullets, Kevin Duckworth had 24 and Chris Webber 22

Shaq was already a beast when he entered the league. I think they could have had a chance to win the title, but as you said Shaq choose another location. Sad that Penny went down some years later with all those injuries.

However Hardaway was great in his first few years in the league and i am still watching some highlights of him when he was in his prime, just amazing. (Y)

As I remember, you can edit Shaq's name in rosters: "Roster Center" to "Shaquille O'Neal" and his jersey number to 32. And also: "Roster Forward" to "Charles Barkley".

Interesting idea of the old school dynasty. It was my fav basketball game in 90's too.

70 IS BIGGER THAN 76
PENNY'S CAREER HIGH DISMANTLE PHILADELPHIA

Image

When Shaquille O'Neal fouled out with 4 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter for an elbow to the head of Clarence Weatherspoon while shooting, the Magic chances to win the game were slim. Down by 8 and without the starting center, Anfernee Hardaway decided to put the team in his shoulders...

Penny had 27 points at that time and scored 15 more in the 3rd and 28 in the 4th to finish the game with a Career High 70 points, along with 7 assists, 7 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 blocks.. An all around game for Penny.

Shaq finished the game with 10 points, 6 rebound, 6 blocks and 6 fouls. Coach Hill was asked why he decided to not pull Shaq from the game when he commited his 5th foul

"He was defending pretty well, but also was trying to block everything. I told him to stay two more minutes and to not block anymore... And he commited the sixth on the offensive end...."

Shaq's replacement, Tree Rollins scored 11 points of the bench, and Chambers had 8. Dennis Scott scored 16.

For Philadelphia, Weatherspoon had 21 and Sharone Wright 17

I always was a great fan of Penny Hardaway. Once in NBA Shootout 2002 I scored 92 points with him while he was in Phoenix. If you give 30 minutes I turn on the PSone and I take a photo with my cellphone. I still have the season saved in my memory card.

TO BEE OR NOT TO BEE
PENNY'S TRIPLE-DOUBLE ENOUGH TO BEAT CHARLOTTE

Image

3 days after the record setting night, Anfernee Hardaway is still hot. His late free throws were crucial to stop the late rally by Hershey Hawkins three pointers. The game finished 112-108. This time he scored "just" 44 points, along with 13 dimes and 10 rebounds to lead the Magic.
This time he had the help of Shaquille O'Neal who had 34 points, 8 rebounds and 9 blocks, he also did a great job controlling his fouls, he had just 2

For Charlotte Muggsy Bogues led the team with 20 points and 11 rebounds (yeah, the little Muggsy). Robert Parish had 15 from the bench.

MVP OF THE GAME

Image
Penny's 1st triple-double of the year... And surely not the last

PHOTO OF THE GAME
Image
Penny's FT dediced the game. He was 17-17 from the stripe

• Penny also had 4 steals in the game
• The Magic bench scored just 7 points (Liberty 3, Chambers and Shaw 2 apiece)
• Nick Anderson had 5 steals
• How the hell can Muggsy Bogues grab 11 rebounds between Alonzo Mourning, Shaq and Horace Grant?
• Hardaway is averaging 48 points a game. :bowdown2:

• Orlando's Record is now 3-0

Shaq is the giant, Horace the glassed one, Scott has a moustache. The problem is between Penny and Anderson because they're identical. and both look fot the ball for PG duties. Shaw is also identical to them, but only plays when Penny is out. Liberty is also identical to them but he plays the 3, so he's always in the corner.
Same happens with Chambers and Piatkowski, I recognise them for where they're on the floor.
Anyway, everybody can shoot the three, so if they're alone they shoot, regardless who they are (except Shaq, Tree and Grant)

Interesting off-topic stuff. :)

Penny is a beast in your team! What else he can do? Quadruple-double? I think you go for 82-0 in the season. :D

Some advice: you can add some photos of those times. It will add some atmosphere in your thread.

CENTERS BATTLE
ORLANDO SWEATS TO BEAT EWINGLESS KNICKS

Image
There's a mistake in the Highlights, Shaq had 11 rebounds, that 20 number belongs to Penny's assists

Two days before the game Patrick Ewing twisted his right knee and he is out 7-10 days, so the Magic believed it would be an easy game, but Center filler Herb Williams showed that he was prepared to fight O'Neal, but his 34 points weren't enough as the Magic beat the Knicks 120 - 107.

The game was close until the fourth when Hardaway steal two consecutive balls that lead to 9 points, all from three pointers (Chambers, Scott and Anderson), and after that the game was sealed.

Shaq was the MVP of the game with a triple-double: 38 points, 11 rebounds and season best 13 blocks to dominate the game. Whe can also recognise that Hardaway had a beast game also, just flirting with another triple double: 28 points, 20 assists and 9 huge steals.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Image
Shaq flirted with a triple double earlier in the season. He finally got it

PHOTO OF THE GAME
Image
Shaq showing some dancing skills :applaud:

• Chambers, Liberty and Shaw combined for 21 points off the bench
• Nick Anderson isn't shooting, he scored just 7 points (Average: 8.3 points)
• Scott had 16 with 4-8 from three
• Besides Williams, no other Knick scored more than 14 points
• Orlando's Record is 4-0

Shaq blocked a lot because Starks easily beat Anderson and went to the basket where Shaq was waiting, and also because of Herb Williams' shooting. He was the centerpiece of the attack and shooted a lot, he was blocked so many times but also scored!

By the way, PF and C are the most shooters, that's why the high blocking numbers

A HUGE TREE
ROLLINS SCORES THE LAST 6 POINTS OF THE GAME TO FINISH THE MAGIC RALLY AGAINST 76ERS

Image

The last time this two teams played, Shaq fouled out in the third quarter and Penny exploded for 70 points... Ironically Shaq fouled out early again... but this time Penny wasn't the hero. Down by 4 with 45 seconds left, Wayne "Tree" Rollins scored is only 6 points of the game to make a 6-0 run to finish the game and lifting the Magic over the 76ers.

The Magic had difficulties the entire game, Anderson, Scott and Penny had all 4 fouls and Shaq 5 entering the 4th quarter.. And they were struggling from deep (just 23% for the game), and the Sixers bench was unstoppable, making a 15 points differential entering the last quarter.
Coach Hill decided to start the 4th with O'Neal and the deficit was reduced to 7 when Shaq fouled out.

"When we rallied within 5 I thought we could win the game, but when Shaq fouled out, I was almost sure that the game was lost"
- A very positive Erik Piatkoswki

The game hanged on that difference until the final minute, Penny was missing easy shots, Scott was in the bench in favor of Chambers... And here comes the unexpected hero, who didn't take a shot before those 3 huge baskets.

Penny finished with 31 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds. Shaq had another triple double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 12 blocks but he was overshadowed by Rollins, who finished with 6 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal.

For Philadelphia, Wille Burton had 21 points and Sharone Wright and Scott Williams had 18 apiece.

MVP OF THE GAME
Image
Come on Penny! This space should be awarded to Rollins!

PHOTO OF THE GAME
Image
I wanted to put a pic of Tree shooting.. But Penny deserves some consideration, he played like a C on the 4th with Shaq out

• Nick Anderson is in a scoring slump, he had only 2 points
• Philly's bench outscored the Magic one, 47 to 27
• Chambers scored 10, including a buzzer beater 3 at the end of the third
• Orlando's record is now 5-0

Expect a Tree Rollins night the next game :bowdown2:
