Lackluster Lakers Disappoint in Detroit
Ron Artest was the lone positive for the Lakers last nightThe Los Angeles Lakers' 10-game win streak came to a crashing halt last night at the hands of the Detroit Pistons, 79-99.
The only setback for the Pistons was a first-quarter injury to Rodney Stuckey, who will miss the next 2-4 weeks.
The game was a see-saw affair through the first half, before a 19-5 Pistons run in the third quarter put the result beyond doubt.
Ron Artest shone for the Lakers, with 17 points on 6-11 shooting, including 5-10 from three.
The Lakers as a whole, though, failed to show up.
They shot 31-82 from the floor, and 11-39 from three.
There was internal discussion yesterday about perhaps moving Shannon Brown into the starting five, as a reward for his great performances over the past couple of games and in preparation for Derek Fisher's retirement at the end of the year.
Those talks are on hold after Brown went 2-13 from the floor, including 0-8 from deep, in the loss.
The Lakers let the Pistons wander into the key at will, a problem compounded by their complete lack of three-point defense.
The Pistons shot 11-19 from deep.
The Lakers had no answer for Ben Gordon, who scored his game-high 32 from just 22 shots from the field.
Gordon was 6-10 from three.
Will Bynum, who played 46 minutes due to the loss of Rodney Stuckey, wandered through the paint almost at will, turning open driving lanes into 15 points with the help of 9-10 shooting from the line.
The Lakers must rebound quickly; they face the Timberwolves in Minnesota tomorrow night.
Last time the Lakers and Wolves met, the Lakers barely managed to escape with victory in Los Angeles.
