NYK | Houston, We Have A Problem (2-0)

With training camp only a few days away, the New York Knicks enter camp with their most talented roster in quite some time. After enduring many losing seasons and zero trips to the post season, the Knickerbockers hope this will be the start of something big.

Though Knicks fans are likely still frustrated from “The Decision,” they’ll probably, perhaps begrudgingly, take the consolation prize: a sense of optimism; not only about this year, but about things to come.

First, there’s the addition of Stoudemire, one the League’s most lethal offensive weapons, a devastating combination of grace, power and goggles. He’s a better player than Lee and a reunion with Mike D’Antoni will put him in a system that’s geared to his strengths.

Felton, though not an All-Star, is exactly three-gazillion times better than Chris Duhon, and should serve as a potentially very good pick-and-roll partner with STAT. Just where Felton ends up on the Eastern Conference point-guard spectrum will depend on whether can maintain his career high percentages from the three point line from last year and if D’Antoni doesn’t run him into the ground by the All-Star break. The latter, given coach’s previous history with Duhon, is particularly something to keep an eye on.

The Knicks will also be quite deep. The Lee trade netted Turiaf and Azubuike, two useful players who fit needs, and Randolph, a player who depending on you talk to, is either an X-Man mutant with potentially dangerous powers, or just merely another exotic, yet ineffective player with no discernable skill or position. Don Nelson kept him under tight wraps in Golden State, but on a team an already thin frontcourt rotation, Randolph’s current unknown quantities potential should make itself known by around January. Young Toney Douglas showed flashes last year, Mozgov showed flashes this summer in Turkey, and Mason Jr. showed flashes three years ago in Washington. And if you’re into Bill Walker, the Knicks for once will have some serious lineup options to throw out there.

Along with a solid core, they have the luxury of a number of big contracts coming off the books at the end of the season, which will undoubtedly have the front office licking their lips at the thought of landing Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks are undoubtedly better than they’ve been in a while: they have a legit superstar, a solid point-guard and are deeper than last year at almost every position. The level of their success will be determined by their ability to gel in D'antoni "Run-and-Gun" offense and presence on the defensive glass.

With the season just days away, let the games begin.

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

CAPTION: Amare Stoudemire puts Darko Milicic on a poster.

THE FACTS: In his first game in a Knick's uniform Amare Stoudemire put on a show, recording a near triple-double and an array of rim-rattling dunks.

QUOTABLE: "I'm happy I went where I went. It was a decision that was made. New York just was the best city to choose. Not saying anything about Phoenix, but it wasn't a focal point of mine. I wasn't going to New Jersey or Chicago. And not saying nothing about Cleveland, [but] I wasn't going there neither. It was just New York was the best city."
-- Amare Stoudmire on his decision last summer.

THE STAT: Free throw shooting. The Knicks shot 78 percent from the line, hitting 18 of their 23 attempts while the Timberwolves attempted only 4 free throws, making 6.

TURNING POINT: This game was relatively close throughout, with each team taking their turns at runs in the first half . The Timberwolves fought back in the fourth quarter and kept it close until the end, but there was a break in the intensity of the crowd during that run and the momentum shifted towards the Knicks.

HOT: Stoudemire finished the game with a near triple double, recording a game-high 28 points, grabbing 10 boards and blocking 10 shots.

NOT: Corey Brewer and rookie Wesley Johnson who combined for 9 of 26 shooting. Brewer, however, recorded 3 steals and shot 4 of 7 from behind the arc.

INSIDE THE ARENA: Jon Bon Jovi was in attendance and received a loud ovation from the crowd when he was shown on the jumbotron between the third and fourth quarter while "Living on a Prayer" played in the arena. The announced crowd was the third-highest in Target Centre history.

ROOKIE WATCH: Knicks' rookie Landry Fields started his first game ever in the NBA, recording 12 points and 6 rebounds in 28 minutes of play.

UP NEXT: For the Knicks, the Houston Rockets.

-- Amare Stoudemire on teammate Raymond Felton's performance.

ROOKIE WATCH:
With rookies Andy Rautins and Timofey Mozgov still listed as injury reserves, all eyes are still on Landry Fields. Tonight, he did not disappoint, dropping a career high 23 points.

Knicks send pair to Armor

Image

The Knicks announced Sunday they have assigned rookies Andy Rautins and Timofey Mozgov to the Springfield Armor of the NBA Development League.

"This is an opportunity for Andy and Timofey to receive regular minutes and continue their skill development," Knicks general manager Donnie Walsh said.

The 24-year-old Rautins was selected by the Knicks with the 38th pick in the 2010 NBA draft, one spot ahead of his teammate Landry Fields. Mozgov was signed by the Knicks in the offseason.

The pair's first game with Springfield will be Tuesday against Fort Wayne. The Mad Ants are coached by former De Paul coach Joey Meyer.

"We've not been at all disappointed with Andy or Timofey when they have been on the floor," Walsh said. "They both have shown tremendous upside."

We will continue to follow their progress with the Armor.

Thanks guys (Y)

I'm about to post 3-4 games, so I can get caught up. (I played these 6 games when I was in bed after my wisdom teeth removal)

Anyway, expect deeper game recaps, perhaps some more photos, NBA news, etc.

I'm also hoping to get going on some behind the scenes/storyline type stuff too, so stay tuned for that.
