Pistons-Rebirth [23-25] 3 Game Wrap-up

Sun Nov 21, 2010 9:33 pm

Image
Hello guys, after about an year and many shitty uncompleted dynasty's / associations I have decided to give one , perhaps the last try. I know i have never been good at it, because I don't have exceptional writing and photoshop skills, but I always have a good time while recapping my story.

I have decided to chose the Detroit Pistons as my user controlled team. They are really one of the worst teams, without any chemistry, defense and without a reliable go-to guy. Sure, Rip Hamilton is a good player, but not one that can single-handedly lead a team to Play-offs. Besides, he is getting old, just like Tayshuan Prince. There is also a was- All star in Tracy McGrady. In my opinion, he can still be a starter for some shitty teams, and if injuries haven't interrupted his career, I think he could be one of the best offensive forces in this decade, maybe even wider. Ben Wallace is another old player that is starting in Detroit. He was a real defensive threat back in the day, but now he isn't consistent in nothing, and may be heading for the bench if Greg Monroe proves himself. Rodney Stuckey's development is crucial for this team, as he is proven himself as a reliable starting point guard over the past few years. The small forward position is our biggest weakness. Jerebko isn't a player for the starting five, and a trade is very likely. Either McGrady, Hamilton , or Gordon can be traded due to the stack at the shooting guard position. The goal is to lead the Pistons to Play-offs in 2 years time.

The Trade Talk

ImageImageImage

McGrady,Hamilton , Gordon. Only one of this players can stay and have the honor to play the starting shooting guard for the Detroit Pistons

John Kuester, head coach of the Detroit Pistons, is aware that changes needed to be done after a awful season last year. Ben Gordon didn't adapted as predicted, as didn't Charlie Villanueva. He didn't want to rush into things , as teams really aren't interested in Detroit's players. At least not into the ones on the trade block. "Man, last year was a bust, I have to change something or I might end up loosing my job. This is a big decision, I better go speak to Mr. Dumars." -Kuester was having a monologue. He got up off his chair, grabbed the teams roster which he previously printed out and went towards Joe Dumars office. *knock knock*. "It's open"- said Dumars. John Kuester entered his office, greeted his boss and took a seat. "Boss, am I interrupting you or something"- He asked. "No, no John, you aren't, say why did you came here?"- replied Dumars as he turned off his computer so he can focus on Kuester. "Listen boss, I have been thinking. Detroit had an awful season last year, this year isn't looking any better. We are stacked at the guards and weak at the forwards. I think that is a problem we have to solve if we want to have a chance to compete for the Play-offs this year."-Kuester explained. " Yes, you just may be right. But tell me, who are you planing to trade. Teams aren't really interested in Hamilton, Prince, Wallace, they are getting old, so is Mcgrady. Gordon had an awful year, and I'm not letting you trade Stuckey or Monroe. If you get a good trade out of this, hands down"-Dumars was skeptic. But Kuester just put on a smile, showed some trade offers to Dumars, as "The boss" just left staring at the paper. "Wow we have some good trade offers here John, but I suggest you do this by your self. The committee is a little bit pessimistic about you leading the team to Play-offs, just make sure you make the best out of this"-Dumars said as John left his office, confused and not really knowing which trade he will make. He decided to analyze every player on the paper.

So he started with Richard Hamilton. Solid 16 point guy, consistent and reliable, knows what it takes to win a championship, tough and durable. He has a great mid-range jumper, is an excellent free-throw shooter and is currently the best player on the team. On the other hand, this is probably the last time we can get something good for him, as he is getting old, we can send him to an old team that is having that one last try for something good, and get a young talented player. "I'd hate to see him go, but I don't think a trade will be done without him being a part of it."-Kuester stated to himself.
Next on is Ben Gordon. He is an extremely talented sharpshooter, not overly consistent, but you can expect him to put on 15 points every game. He has proven the NBA he is clutch in the legendary Bulls-Celtics series a year ago. But can he be the go-to guy of a team, and does he have what it takes to handle that pressure ?
We move up to Tracy McGrady. If injuries haven't gotten this guy, he would probably end up being somewhere in the top 5 players of this decade. In his prime, he was a bigger offensive threat than Kobe, and lead the league in scoring 2 consecutive times. Now, he is an old veteran who is hoping to return to his stardom. A perfect player for a trade bait . . .
Other players that can be traded in the following days are : Wilcox, Jerebko, Villanueva and Wallace

Nice start man (Y) IMO, you should trade only one of them to have the other two covering the SG spot all the time. I would trade Gordon because of his long contract...

Thierry •, Thanks dude, appreciate it. If there is a trade, i surely won't be left without a good 6th man :D

Pistons Begin Renovation

It is early morning of a cold day here in Detroit. People are just entering their cars and going to work. the staff is just beginning to come , but Kuester stayed up all night going trough the trade scenarios, and he picked three best ones. None of them are really blockbusters, but they would improve the team. One was with the Indiana Pacers, one was with the Chicago Bulls, and the last and worst of the 3, was with the Toronto Raptors. Kuester has already e-mailed the respective team's General Managers, and is waiting their calls. He canceled today's practice, and payed for a wellness treatment for all of the guys.He was so nervous he had to do something, so he went to the gym to shoot some hoops.

As he was shooting, a lot of things were going trough his head. What if he messes things up and does a stupid trade? Joe Dumars entered the gym. "Your jump shot is really awful"-said Dumars and started laughing. "Oh hey boss, yes I know, it's a bit rusty."-replied Kuester, as he tossed the ball to Dumars "Tell me John, what are you doing here in the gym, aren't you supposed to be calling GM's and trying to make a trade, you know the things you have to do to improve your team ?"-asked the General Manager. "I know, I brought my cell phone if anyone calls. I was just so nervous I had to do something."-explained Kuester. " Listen young man, if I have learned anything in my years in the NBA, it's that you can't rush into things, you always have to really see if a trade or a player signing will really help you. Sometimes it can mess up your chemistry. Trades aren't always necessary, but if you think now is the time to do one, then make the call. It's up to you. Just remember. Championship team aren't built over the night"-Said Dumars as he left the building.
Those words really got John thinking, is a trade really necessary ? nut on the other hand, the team is old and aren't really a threat on the east. So he decided to make one.

The first call John received was from the general manager of the Indiana Pacers, David Morway. „Hello, John Kuester speaking“-John answered the phone while reaching for the respective teams printed out roster. „Hello Mr. Kuester, it's David Morway from the Pacers. Listen, I have received your e-mail, and there is one interesting thing I saw. You wrote you would trade Hamilton for Paul George in a multi-player trade?“-asked Morway. „Yes, we are looking for a new beginning, a rebirth, you might say. We would like to acquire young and talented players, and surely Paul [George] is just that. You get Hamilton in return, but I would like you to offer McGrady also.“-John explained. „Ok, this sounds good my friend, I just need to speak to O'Brien [head coach] and I'll get back to you“-said Morway as he hung up. John was proud of himself, he thought he did a good job during the conversation, and was thrilled by the idea of Paul George in Detroit. In about an hour he got an E-mail from Morway that said : „Dear Mr. Kuester, I am sad to say we have bad news for you. We reject your trade offer as Paul George is a valuable aspect for the future, however, if you have any other offers, we would really like to see Hamilton in Indiana.“-John haven't expected that. He know has to look for other trade options, thankfully, he has two up in his sleeve.

He decided to cancel the possible trade with the Bulls, which included Deng and Gordon switching teams, among others. In the E-mailed he sent the Chicago Bulls he stated that Gordon is a valuable aspect and would only trade an older player away.
Then he got an phone call from the Raptors. We fast forward to the end of the conversation, to John's words, to be exact : „So we call it a deal. Detroit sends Hamilton, McGrady, Wilcox and Jerebko in return for . . . .

-What do YOU think which players did Detroit get in return ?

Trade for Josh Smith. He is young and would fit in with the Pistons. You would probably have to give up Rip and Mcgrady/Gordon and a 1st round draft pick but he would be worth it.

Beast in the East, I see you haven't read the last article, it's a trade with the Raptors, you'll see which players are included next ;D

Pistons get Derozan in Multi-player trade with the Raptors

Hello Pistons fans, we would like to introduce you to our new starting small forward, a prospect for the future, Demar Derozan. We all remember the 2010 dunk contest, and what a show did Demar put on. But unfortunately, he lost to Nate Robinson in the final round, for just a percent in votes. Demar averaged 8.6 point per game in 21 minutes per game. That number isn't great, but the Pistons staff are confident he will develop in quite a player in a couple of years.

So this trade included 8 players, and a draft pick. Hamilton left the Pistons. After many successful and consistent years, he will try to make the Raptors better with his great mid range jumper. He averages a career 18.9 points, which is really good considering the Raptors are an offensive minded team. Rip will play starting shooting guard for the Raptors. Tracy McGrady also left Detroit. This once-was superstar will look to revive his career in the team in which he started, the Raptors. He will play starting small forward, and is looking to get his numbers up due to the offensive tempo of the Toronto Raptors.
Chris Wilcox also left for Toronto, but he was never really a part of the rotation. He will bring strength on the Power forward spot which is much needed in Toronto after the absence of Chris Bosh.

Jonas Jerebko is also now a Raptor, and he is looking to learn from experienced players. We are sure he will have a successful NBA career.

Players the Raptors send in return are : Derozan , Linas Kleizla , D. Andresen , Reggie Evans , and 2011 1st round pick. Kleizla will be a big part of our rotation as a scorer of the bench. Evans and Andersen have expiring contracts that are together worth 7.5 Million $. So it's obvious the Pistons are looking to sign a star player in this off-season. The Pistons are weakened a bit after this trade, but at least we good rid of our stacked back-court

Re: Pistons - Rebirth [ MEET YOUR NEW STAR FOR THE FUTURE ]

Tue Nov 23, 2010 8:46 pm

Terrible trade for Raptors. 2 scrubs, old Rip & a solid Swede for Derozan & a lottery pick. Pistons win easily.

Re: Pistons - Rebirth [ MEET YOUR NEW STAR FOR THE FUTURE ]

Tue Nov 23, 2010 8:58 pm

X is right. Especially the first rounder is a joke. Why would a team give away his best talent and a sure-fire lotery pick ?

Re: Pistons - Rebirth [ MEET YOUR NEW STAR FOR THE FUTURE ]

Tue Nov 23, 2010 9:02 pm

z02, Yes you got it right

The X, Its not that bad considering mailton has a 77 overall in the game, T-mac 71 at shooting guard and 75 at small forward . . . and Derozan only 65

hova-, same as the x

Devvin Harris and Co. Cruise past the Pistons

The Nets blowout the Pistons in season opener

The start of the season wasn't as good as the Pistons fans have hoped. In fact, it was awful. To loose to last seasons worst team by 18 points is a bit worrying for the Pistons. The final score was 114-96 for the team from New Jersey. The main reason could of been the turnovers. Pistons committed 12 of them, and the Nets just 5.

The Jordan brand player of the match was Devin Harris. The guard packed up a double-double as he scored 24 points with a more than good 10 assists. In addition to that, Harris had 3 rebounds, a block , a steal and was 10-16 from the field. A good all-around game by Harris.
But if Brook Lopez wasn't there to help him, it could easily be a whole other game. The center also had a double-double, scoring 22 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists which were all to Harris by the way. He also had 2 steals, 2 blocks and 0 TURNOVERS !!! This could be the break-out season for Lopez, he has proven everyone tonight he is an all-star caliber center.
Terrence Williams was surprisingly good tonight, scoring 18 points while grabbing 5 boards. He has a couple of highlight dunks, including a LeBron imitation on the fast break. Other players that were in double figures tonight for the New Jersey Nets were Anthony Morrow and Travis Outlaw, scoring 15 and 11 , respectively.

Ben Gordon did not show up as Detroit's go-to guy. He was fazed by the pressure and was an awful 5-19 from the field. He did manage to score 14 points, his last seasons average, as he also had 2 rebounds and 4 assists. He attempted 8 three pointers, making only 2. On the bright spot, new acquisition Demar Derozan had a decent game. The forward went for 10-15 from the field as he scored 23 points. In addition to that, he had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block. Not a bad debut for the sophomore. The starting point guard , Rodney Stuckey, will have to improve his decision making on the court. He committed 4 turnovers, but he did however managed to rack up 13 points and 6 assists. Ben Wallace had a good game on the defensive end of the court, blocking 5 shots. Tayshuan Prince was good on the offensive end, scoring 16.

The Nets over rebounded us by 15, had 6 more steals, and were very good from the field, 53 percent. The Pistons have much work to do . . .

Decent debut from DeRozan - I'm a fan of this guy in real life. Hopefully he and Stuckey build good chemistry in Detroit. Also nice to see you get Reggie Evans who is playing like Rodman this season (top 4 in rebounding) with no offense.

Prince and Villanueva to play trough injury

ImageImage
Pistons starter and 6th man are ready to make a sacrifice for the team and play trough injury

Bad news Pistons fans. After only one game have been played, we already have 2 injuries. Tayshuan Prince should rest 2-4 weeks, but he decided to play trough that period, saying that his strained hamstring won't be much of a problem in his performances. Charlie Villanueva's condition is much lighter, with only a sore hand, he can easily play trough that injury. The only problem is, Villanueva is Tayshuan's backup, and now when the both are injured, other players will need to step up their game a bit.

3 Game Recap

Three games, two wins and a loss. Not bad for the rebuilding Detroit Pistons team. Their record now stands at 2-2

Detroit Pistons vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
Image

Final result: 113 – 94

A surprising win by the Pistons, they completely outplayed the young and very talented Thunder. You could say Kevin Durant helped the Pistons a lot. He took a freakishly many 50 shots ! and he made only 17 of them [2-18 three-pointers]. This was an awful performance by last years MVP runner-up. To miss 33 shots in one game is just unacceptable. He was the only player on the Thuner team who scored more than 11 points. Ben Gordon and Demar Derozan were the main reason Detroit won , scoring 26 and 20 , respectively.

Box Score

Kevin Durant : - 42 pts , 7 reb , 4 stl , 17/50 FG , 2/18 3pt
Ben Gordon : - 26 pts , 4 reb , 11/16 FG
Demar Derozan : - 20 pts , 9 reb , 3 blk , 10/17 FG
Rodney Stuckey : -15 pts , 16 ast , 6 reb , 7/15 FG

Detroit Pistons @ Chicago Bulls

Image
Image

Final Result : 68 – 111

Wow , on this game the Pistons seemed like some European scrub team that were playing against the Lakers. The Bulls completely raped them as Ben Gordon was the only okay player on the Pistons side. The Rose – Boozer combo was a success on this night as they combined for 55 points.

Box Score

Carlos Boozer : -22 pts , 12 reb
Derrick Rose : -32 pts , 5 reb , 10 ast
Joakhim Noah : - 14 pts, 11 reb
Ben Gordon : - 19 pts, 3 reb

Detroit Pistons vs. Boston Celtics
Image
Image

Final Result : 110 - 96

The Detroit Pistons can have an awful night followed by an sensational one. On this night they hit 19 threes out of 28 attempts, red hot ! 3 players scored over 20 points as this was the biggest surprise of the NBA season so far.

Box Score

Rodney Stuckey : - 28 pts, 4 reb , 11 ast , 4/5 3pt
Demar Derozan : - 22 pts , 4 reb , 3 ast , 2 blk
Ben Gordon : - 21 pts , 3 reb , 3 ast , 5/5 3pt
Paul Pierce : - 20 pts , 4 reb , 4 ast , 3 stl
Rajon Rondo : -16 pts , 10 ast

All in all, I am pretty pleased by the teams performance, I still have some learning to do because I am not a really good player, so the inconsistent results aren't a big surprise

I see DD filling the statsheet on blocks and rebs like he should in real life. Nice game from Gordon against the Celtics, perfect 5-5 from 3

Demar Derozan #8 continues his string of good scoring games with this one in a win over the Hawks

Detroit Pistons @ Atlanta Hawks

Image

Image

Final Result : 94 – 89

DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit has managed to win yet another game over a solid play-off team in he Atlanta Hawks. The main reason were the locks. Detroit had 14 of them , while Atlanta just 4. On the other side the Hawks had just 8 turnovers, compared to the Pistons 15, and they had 15 steals, compared to Detroit's 7.

The Jordan brand player of the game was Demar Derozan. This kid is really playing well for the Pistons and the Raptors are grabbing their heads when they see what did they let go. The kid had 32 points and 8 rebounds. He also added 2 steals and a block to that stat line, if he continues to play like this, the MIP award could fall right in his hands. Rodney Stuckey continued his series of great true-point guard games. The combo guard had 18 points and 13 assists, he looked like Steve Nash out there tonight. Ben Gordon didn't have a great game, shooting just 5-15 from the field, but he did manage to rack up 14 points in tonight's game. The Pistons bench is slightly underachieving at the moment, as they scored just 14 points, much more is expected day-in and day-out from them.

The player that kept the Hawks in the game was Joe Johnson. The all-star swing man had 35 points , 4 boards and 2 steals. A solid all-around game by him. He did put on 35 shots, continuing they weird stat of star caliber players putting up 25+ shots when they play against Detroit [Remember Durants 50 FG attempts a few games back]. Johnson wasn't the only good player on the Hawks tonight. There is also a guy called Josh Smith. J-Smoove scored 18 points and was just a rebound shy from a double-double. He was a force on the defensive end, swatting 4 shots and picking up defenders pockets on two occasions.

The Pistons keep surprising everyone, as they won against the Celtics and Hawks in their first 5 games, and lost to the Bulls by a 53 point deficit.

Good win, DeRozan is doing it all and that shows why the trade was just ridiculous even if the overall ratings dont't show. Why are those guys putting up shot after shot after shot against you?

hova-, toronto is 4-0 rip is their leading scorer and T-mac is beasting. I play good d on them, derozan has a great vertical leap so i back of a little them when they pull-up i jump so it's a contested shot every time. Only thing I'm good at NBA 2k11 is perimeter D :D

Four Game Recap

Four games , two wins and two losses. The Pistons are slightly starting to come together as a team and their defense is getting better every game. Play-offs are still a bit out of reach, but dreaming is allowed, right ?

Charlotte Bobcats @ Detroit Pistons

Image

Image

Final Results : 97-102

Ben Gordon and Rodney Stuckey combined for 56 points and you would think when a duo scores that much, it will be an easy win. Well it wasn't, the Bobcats were clawing their back in and in the last few minutes they were red hot. Steven Jackson was the main reason for that as he knocked jumpers in his defenders face. The Pistons defense did however managed to stop the surge and win the game by 5 points.

Box score:

Ben Gordon : -28 pts, 4 reb , 2 stl
Rodney Stuckey : - 28 pts, 8 ast, 8 stl
Steven Jackson : - 36 pts , 7 reb
Gerald Wallace : - 24 pts , 7 reb , 3 stl , 2 blk

Golden State Warriors @ Detroit Pistons

Image

Image

Final Result : 96 – 115

Prior the match against the Warriors coach John Kuester said he isn't expecting a win, and all he wants to see on this given night was a hard fought game from his boys. He got a 19 point win, and Gordon was again the leading scorer for the Pistons. Rodney Stuckey contributed in with a double-double. There was one surprise performance on the Warriors side , however. Reggie Willliams had a decent scoring night.
Box score :

Ben Gordon : - 30 pts
Rodney Stuckey : - 23 pts , 10 ast , 7 reb
Monta Ellis : - 19 pts, 9 ast
Reggie Williams : - 21 pts

Detroit Pistons @ Portland Trailblazers

Image

Image

Final Result : 83 – 110

This was Brandon Roy's night. The Pistons were losing by 20 after the second quarter, and didn't stand a chance since then. Other then Roy, Miller was also great. The Trailblazers back court combined for 67 points en route to a 27 point victory. Demar Derozan continues his slide of bad games with this one, after a fast start to the season he is cooling of bit by bit.

Box Score :

Brandon Roy : - 40 pts , 9 ast
Andre Miller : - 27 pts , 3 reb , 2 ast
Rodney Stuckey : - 18 pts , 5 reb , 2 stl

Detroit Pistons @ Los Angeles Clippers

Image

Image

Final Result : 79 – 108

The streak of inconsistent games from the Detroit Pistons. Last week they crushed the Hawks, and now they were crushed by one of the worst teams in the NBA . The „Twin towers“ the Clippers have in Kaman and Griffin really showed what they are made of tonight. Derozan yet is to score over 10 points in 4 games, scoring 6 in this one.

Box Score :

Blake Griffin : - 25 pts , 9 reb , 9/12 FG
Chris Kaman : - 23 pts , 10 reb
Charlie Villanueva : - 17 pts , 6 reb [off the bench]
Ben Gordon : - 17 pts

Ben Gordon wins matchup against Tyrekee Evans as the Pistons win in OT

Detroit Pistons @ Sacramento Kings

Image

Image

Final Result : 116 - 109 [OT]

Preview | Highlights | Recap | Boxscore |

It was a classic case of good stellar defense throughout the game that kept the Kings from scoring consistently in this game, as they went 39 % from the field and just 9% from beyond the arc. This was the best game on the defensive end the Detroit Pistons had so far.

The first half of the game was really evenly matched , as Ben Gordon and Tyrekee Evans weren't really doing their thing. They let their teammates the control of the ball in the first half and it resulted an even score at 48-48. The story of the first half were free-throws, the Pistons attempted 14 of them and the Kings 13. So you can easily tell it was a ruff game and it wasn't that easy to score. The Pistons haven't had 1 game in which they had fewer turnovers than their opponent. In this one they had 5 more than the Kings, partially because of Rodney Stuckey, who committed 6 of them. But Stuckey had a great game, going for 33 points, from which 26 were scored in the first three quarters. He also managed to dish out 12 assists and block 3 shots, including a beautiful one against Evans.

The Kings big man , Samuel Dalembert and Carl Landry were dominating on the defensive and offensive end the first half. It resulted that Dalembert finished the game with 12 points and 19 boards. Carl Landry, on the other hand, finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds. This was one of the most effective games the duo had this season.

But the story of the game were Gordon and Evans. Gordon scored 21 of his teams 25 points in the fourth quarter, including a game-tying shot that lead the game into overtime. He finished the game with 35 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. But as said it wasn't all his. The shooting guard of the other team, Evans, was also hitting jumpers in Gordon's face as he scored 19 of his teams 24 points in the fourth quarter. Last seasons Rookie of the year finished the game with 34 points, 5 steals and 2 blocked shots in his teams loosing effort.

In this game both teams were very poor from the three-point line, as they combined went for 7 / 36 from beyond the arc. And you know, many of those shots were uncontested, at least the Detroit Pistons ones. The game was decided and played in the paint, so that is the reason why a lot of fouls have been made. The Pistons out-assisted the Kings by 8 , and reasonably so, as you consider Evans only dished 2 of them.

The Pistons blocked 12 shots as they are hoping to build a defensive presence inside as they had in their championship days a few of year ago. They were however, rebounded by 6 , and also, the Kings had 5 more steals then our Detroit Pistons squad

Demar Derozan has finally ended his slide of games with less than 10 points scored, as he scored 16 tonight. He also added 7 rebounds to that stat line and a monster Vince Carter imitation dunk on poor Kings center Demarcus Cousins.
