Start of 2009-2010 season

Charlotte started the season with six separate player transactions:

TRANSACTIONS:
-Traded Nazr Mohammed and Raja Bell to Phoenix for Jason Richardson.
-Signed Walter Herrmann.
-Traded D.J. Augustin, Vladamir Radmanovic, and Gerald Henderson to Golden State for Stephen Curry, Stephen Jackson, and Anthony Morrow.
-Traded Stephen Curry to Minnesota for Johnny Flynn.
-Signed Stromile Swift.
-Traded Derrick Brown, Alexis Ajinca, and Johnny Flynn to Milwaukee for Brandon Jennings, Joe Alexander, and Sonny Weems.

*Johnny Flynn and Stephen Curry were hyped to play for Charlotte, but were both disappointed to find out they were only being used for trading purposes.
*Walter Herrmann was more than pleased to play for Charlotte again and would impress Charlotte with his performance in the first game of the season.
*Nazr Mohammed vowed he wouldn't play any more games for Charlotte ever again after being traded to Phoenix and vowed the same to Phoenix when he was traded again, this time to Cleveland, to play along side LeBron James.
*Raja Bell would also become angry at Charlotte and Phoenix for the same reasons. Bell was traded from Charlotte, to Phoenix, to Cleveland, back to Phoenix, and then traded to Dallas where he would really make a name for himself.

Bobcats Beat Pacers With A Buzzer-Beating 3

After trailing the entire game, a single shot from the corner won the game for the Bobcats in a thriller against the Indiana Pacers. Indiana led from the opening play and held their lead for the entire game, right until the buzzer, when an unexpected three took the win from the Pacers. The final score was 154-153.

Mike Dunleavy led Indiana for most of the game, putting up 45 points, including 20 in the first quarter alone. He shot 4-4 from beyond the arc, grabbed eight rebounds, and had three steals, all in the fourth quarter. Point guards Ford and Watson both hit double digits on assists. Troy Murphy grabbed thirteen rebounds, 18 points, and was four steals shy of a triple double.

On the opposite side, four players, Tyson Chandler, Gerald Wallace, Jason Richardson, and Walter Herrmann, all scored above 20 points. Tyson Chandler dominated the boards with 19 rebounds (11 offensive). Point guard Raymond Felton scored 17 and dished 17 assists. He also managed five steals, two blocks, and five rebounds. However, the surprise player of the night did several things at all the right times, including sinking a fade away three from the corner to beat the buzzer from two points down, Walter Herrmann won the game for Charlotte and finished with a team-high 26 points. He also got hold of five rebounds and shot 11-22 from the field. It is notable to mention that he made every inside shot he took. Walter Herrmann is a player to watch, particularly at times of need.

Brandon Jennings' Number Must Be Changed

After the game two days ago, Indiana Pacers head coach, Jim O'Brien, claimed his players were confused at the end of the game, because Gerald Wallace and Brandon Jennings both wore their #3 jerseys. This claim fell flat on its face due to the fact that Jennings and Wallace were only on the floor together once, for under three minutes in the second quarter. However, officials told the Bobcats that either Wallace or Jennings must change his number. Brandon Jennings immediately applied to switch his number to 44.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time

The game could have gone any way. This time it went to the Hawks, because Boris Diaw was in the wrong place at the wrong time- along with the rest of the Bobcats team.

Not to say that the Hawks did badly: Far from it: Joe Johnson had a huge night-the biggest so far for any player in the season-with 59 points and four rebounds. He scored 7 out of 7 3-pointers and went 19-21 on inside shots. Josh Smith got a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds and Al Horford also came out with a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Bibby had a game-high 19 assists.

The last 25 seconds were the worst for the Bobcats. The score was tied at 146 and the Bobcats tried to waste as much time as possible and then put up a shot as the shot clock expired. The game would end less than a second later. Their plan almost worked. With six seconds left on the shot clock, left Raymond Felton passed to Boris Diaw who immediately attempted a pass to Tyson Chandler for the dunk. The pass was intercepted by Marvin Williams and the Hawks' last time-out was called. They brought it up to halfcourt. Marvin Williams found the opening, fed Joe Johnson the ball who immediately laid it up as the buzzer sounded. The ball bounced off the backboard and went straight through the net for two points. The Hawks won 148-146.

Some Bobcats still had a good game. Jason Richardson crashed right out of the gates and scored double digits in the first quarter and the second quarter and finished with 42 points. Walter Herrmann didn't quite live up to the hype he caused last game, only shooting 7-32, but still managed 8 boards, 8 assists, and a respectable 17 points.

Joe Johnson was obviously and unanimously voted player of the game.

Tough loss against the Hawks, but I see you're going to have a buzzer-beating season!

Yeah, live 2003 is pretty rigged for the cpu. Nearly every game I've played in the last couple months (even ones not in this franchise) has come down to making or missing (usually missing) a buzzer-beater. It's fun sometimes, but then it just pisses me off. But still Live 2003 is my favorite Live and I continue to play it. Like I said in the fine print in the 2nd post, the CPU cheats a lot. I'll be like 20 points up going into the fourth and the CPU will make sure the game comes down to the wire.

Bobcats Get Their Revenge On Indiana as J-Rich scores 61.
Once again, it was a buzzer-beater that ended the game and made Charlotte win. Between Jason Richardson's 61 point performance, Tyson Chandler's 21 rebounds, Gerald Wallace's near-quadruple-double with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 9 blocks, and 7 assists, Raymond Felton's six steals, and Brandon Jennings scoring even more than Felton from off the bench, nothing was as important as Walter Herrmann's final shot. With less than five seconds remaining, Walter Herrmann, slowly dribbling up court, realized they were nearly out of time and a point down, and shot the ball in a panic without thinking from the opposing three point line. The shot airballed miserably, but landed in the arms of a nearly unexpecting Raymond Felton, who quickly passed to Gerald Wallace who laid it up as the buzzer sounded. The Bobcats won, in spite of losing a 10-20 point lead, in spite of Danny Granger scoring in the 40s, in spite of the fact that they had already gone down to Indiana once this season, they had won this time.

Many Changes For The Charlotte Bench

-Released Dontell Jefferson and Cartier Martin.
-Signed Acie Law and Charles Smith.
-Traded Joe Alexander, Charles Smith, and Sonny Weems to Portland for Travis Outlaw.
-Signed Francisco Elson.
-Traded Fransisco Elson, Stromile Swift, and Anthony Morrow to Orlando for Matt Barnes and Ryan Anderson.
-Traded Matt Barnes and Ryan Anderson to Sacramento for Donte Greene and Marquis Daniels.

Trade Notes:
*Despite their last names, Travis Outlaw and Acie Law seem to play very well together.
* "Elson, Swift, and Morrow could have just as easily been traded straight to Sacramento," Matt Barnes complained as he and Ryan Anderson were traded to Charlotte and then Sacramento. Matt Barnes preferred Orlando, but Anderson said he likes playing with the Kings a lot better.
*As Acie Law became a crucial part of the Bobcats line-up, he persuaded the Bobcats GM not to trade him away. He wasn't traded.

Bobcats Eat Magic As History Is Made

The Magic couldn't compete with the Bobcats and went down in every category except FG%. They were outrebounded by 14, outblocked by 8, and most importantly, outscored by 8. The margin actually came as a surprise to many, considering that they had seen the Bobcats' lead stretch as high as 27 in the 2nd quarter. There were zero lead changes. The Bobcats even led at the first quarter 38-18 and scored thirteen points before Vince Carter finally broke free from Gerald Wallace's ferocious defense and scored a basket. The Bobcats made the Orlando Magic pay for sweeping them in their first playoff attempt in 2010.

The best guy on Orlando? Without a question, it was Dwight Howard. He recorded a five-for-five (at least 5 in all 5 categories) with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 7 steals, and 5 blocks. Rashard Lewis scored 16, and Vinsanity had 18. Jameer Nelson had the only double-double for Orlando with 33 points, 11 assists, and 3 steals. Stromile Swift didn't enjoy playing for the Bobcats, and as revenge, put up six points on 100% shooting. Former Bobcats Elson and Morrow didn't play.

The Bobcats' stats snarled a lot more than the Magic's. Jason Richardson also recorded a five-for-five, making history as two five-for-five's were recorded in the same game. He scored 37 points and registered exactly 5 in every other category. Walter Herrmann showed his unknown talent, playing double the time as starting PF Boris Diaw and scoring 25 points. Stephen Jackson and Raymond Felton scored no points, but put up great stats otherwise. Jackson used his sticky fingers to steal 6 while Raymond Felton registered 14 assists and 7 steals. Travis Outlaw's Charlotte debut went off great; he scored 22 from off the bench and didn't foul once. Marquis Daniels and Acie Law also made their Charlotte debuts: Law scored a deep 2 after being in less than 10 seconds, but didn't score again, and instead dished 5 assists. Daniels didn't click with the Bobcats and may have hurt the team in the late 3rd quarter.

There was an altercation after the game between Raymond Felton newcomer Marquis Daniels. Apparently, Felton accused Daniels of "messing around with our team." He may have been referring to Daniels' lack of production in the 3rd or his six turnovers. Daniels shoved Felton into a locker and said to the rest of the team, "I am outta here. I ain't playing anymore for this team. You can count me out." Later that evening, he asked to be traded. He would have to wait.

Charlotte Dominates Philadelphia 167-143

There was really no hope for Philadelphia. Jason Richardson couldn't be stopped and nearly everytime they tried to stop him, they fouled him, sending him to the free throw line. He went 21-for-26 from the free throw line and a perfect 8-for-8 from outside and then went 4-for-8 from inside, scoring 53 points. He scored all of the Bobcats' seventeen points in the last three minutes of the game.

The Philadelphia 76ers were lucky. After an enormous comeback in the third quarter, their deficit dropped from 47 to 11. They had been down 90-43 at halftime, Andre Iguodala had gone 0-for-6 from the field and missed both his free throws, and had four fouls. They scored sixty in the third quarter and they were only down by a little bit, 114-103. They had kept the Bobcats to only 24 points. The fourth quarter was an intense fourth quarter, but the Bobcats sparked another run, which really took the Sixers out. Once again Philadelphia found themselves with a thirty-five point deficit with five minutes left and they were unable to get back. Louis Williams was the 76er's best player with 17 assists and 21 points.

What a game for the Bobcats! With a lead as high as 51 in the early third quarter, the Bobcats couldn't be caught. Even a huge third quarter setback couldn't stop them from playing phenomenally. Fouls from Iguodala, Dalembert, and Brand sent J-Rich to the line 26 times. He missed only five. Travis Outlaw helped out on defense and registered a game-high seven blocks. Tyson Chandler outrebounded everyone else and brought down 11 rebounds. Walter Herrmann proved that his 16 ppg average was for real, tying that again, in addition, he added six rebounds, one less than his average. Stephen Jackson only played nine minutes off the bench, due to J-Rich's domination, but still registered twelve points. Every Bobcats that played, except for Desagana Diop, scored double digits. Diop had six points, which was strange, because he started this game, with Tyson Chandler on the bench. Brandon Jennings and Marquis Daniels did not play.

Nice to see you blow out a team. Why didn't you play Brandon Jennings?

Re: Bobcats in the Sun: The Charlotte Bobcats

Wed Jul 07, 2010 9:57 am

Brandon Jennings isn't very good in TRU09 mod for Live 2003- he has the worst ratings on my team (overall 70) and rarely does much for me as he does not fit my style of playing much. He's inconsistent but when he's hot, he plays pretty well, like the next game... He is part of a much bigger trade deal you'll hear about later...

Bobcats Edge Out The Pistons in Double Overtime

Production on both sides and both ends of the floor forced the game into double overtime. But it really came down to two questions: "Who had the better guards?" and "Who could rebound better?" The better guards? It's hard to say but it's worth noting that Raymond Felton, Acie Law, Will Bynum, and Roney Stuckey all dished double digit assists and they all scored around 20 points. The rebounding? Without a question, the Bobcats rebounded better; they had 78 rebounds, almost doubling Detroit's 46. Tyson Chandler scored an NBA season high 32 rebounds, earning him the Player of the Game honors. In the end the Bobcats won 163-162.

Both teams played solid games, neither team falling behind by more than ten points in the entire match. The first quarter played out like this: The Bobcats scored less but tripled the Pistons on the boards, outrebounding them 24-8, but losing 34-41. At halftime, the Bobcats had come back a little bit, and killed on the boards again, already pushing 40 rebounds, while down 3. Then the Bobcats really took over. Tayshaun Prince, Ben Gordon, and Kwame Brown got into foul trouble and underproduced, giving the Bobcats a game-high ten point lead at 100-90 after three quarters. Walter Herrmann exploded in the fourth quarter after an 11-2 run by Detroit and scored 9 points all by himself in one minute. The game was neck and neck through the 4th quarter and after one overtime, the score was still tied, this time at 153. This is where the defense really tightened. Detroit had five blocks and Charlotte six in the second OT. The Bobcats thrived off of defensive rebounds and the Pistons off steals. In the end, the Bobcats outscored the Pistons 10-9 in OT #2 and won by one point. Jason Richardson added an assist on the play and completed yet another five-for-five with 35 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 11 blocks.

This game was very interesting for the fans. There was less shooting and more dunking, particularly from the small people. Ben Gordon, Brandon Jennings, Acie Law, and Raymond Felton all shook the rim at least once with unexpected dunks. Acie Law's dunk on a fast break won the game for the Bobcats with just three seconds left. It was his first dunk of the season.

Damn! 32 rebounds?

Man I wish I had a game like Live 2003, OT games are always fun for me.

Re: Bobcats in the Sun: The Charlotte Bobcats

Fri Jul 09, 2010 7:16 am

Yeah, it's pretty crazy sometimes. Live 2003 is so out of whack sometimes, but it's more fun to play games when stats are crazy high. If stats like that bother you, either don't play Live 2003 or play like 4 min. quarters. These stats are me playing 7 minute quarters. OT happens way too often though in Live 2003. I have another franchise that I don't post for- 5 straight games with OT- including one with a Memphis Grizzlies without any point guard at all (One injured others traded for centers...)

Really, I think I just prefer Live 10. Stats are realistic, though I find myself swearing at my TV when the CPU makes heavily contested shots.
