MAY 2009

The team nickname will be SuperSonics and will use the logos, colors and uniforms of the previous Seattle’s team relocated to Oklahoma City last year.

Seattle Supersonics officially became the NBA 31st franchise.

The NBA announces the divisional alignment for the 2009-10 season.
With 31 teams the NBA will be back to four divisions, as up to 2003/04 season.

Rudy Tomjanovich is officially named head coach of the Seattle SuperSonics.

The Expansion Selection date was announced by the NBA.
The SuperSonics will select players on June 23, and will receive unprotected lists from the 30 NBA teams on June 12.

Rudy Tomjanovich attends the NBA Draft Lottery in Secaucus, New Jersey.
The SuperSonics receive the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft.
Despite having only .007 of possibility, the Bobcats landed in the top three.

3 Charlotte
4 Washington
5 Oklahoma City
6 Seattle (Expansion Team)
7 Minnesota
8 Memphis
9 Golden State

Simply based on the overall ratings it should be:

PG Quinn
SG Redick
SF Webster
PF Powe
C Diop

But I'm not sure at all... during the preseason I'll make some experiments...

Pistons 100, Sonics 95
KeyArena
Seattle, WA

“Rookie shines in inaugural preseason game loss”
Seattle (AP) -- Pistons won the first game of the new Sonics at the Key Arena, Seattle lead by 15 at the halftime.
The new guards acquired, Gibson and Barbosa, made 29 points and rookie Daniel Hunt showed a solid low post game and good sense of rebound: he ended up with 18 points (9/13 from the field) and 10 boards (8 offensive) out of the bench. The only other Sonic in double figure was Leon Powe, 14 points (7/9) plus 8 rebounds.
Coach Tomjanovich has to work hard on three point shooting (only 23,8%), on stamina and especially on team chemistry.
About Detroit, Rip made 31 while Prince and Sheed added 18 each, but the Player of the Game was Rodney Stuckey with his 14 points, 12 assists and 6 steals.

*KEY PLAYERS* - SEA
D. Hunt – 18 pts, 10 reb, 1 ast
D. Gibson – 15 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl
L. Barbosa – 14 pts, 2 ast, 1 stl
L. Powe – 14 pts, 8 reb, 1 ast
J. Boone – 9 pts, 3 reb, 3 blk

*KEY PLAYERS* - DET
R. Hamilton – 31 pts, 3 blk, 2 reb
T. Prince – 18 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast

Sonics 102, Raptors 83
Air Canada Centre
Toronto, ON

“A convincing first win”
Toronto (AP) -- The first win happens in Ontario. Lead by the three-pointers of Barbosa (2/4), Gibson (2/3) and Brown (3/3), the new Sonics controlled the game since the beginning of the second quarter. They were 12 points ahead at the half time and succeed into manage the game in the third period while Bargnani and Calderon were trying to close the gap. Il Mago had foul trouble in the first quarter and spent long time on the pine. Seattle defeated the Raptors 44-27 on rebounds and 39-19 on bench points.
Next stop for the Sonics will be Miami, a harder opponent than Toronto.

Heat 109, Sonics 90
AmericanAirlines Arena
Miami, FL

“Miami, simply too strong”
Miami (AP) -- Second loss for Seattle, never in discussion. A big step behind for Coach T squad: 24 turnovers are really too much. The rookie Daniel Hunt, first time in the starting five, makes good numbers but playing bad. Most of his points came out in the garbage time in which he couldn’t be able to dominate as well. Leon Powe was the only Sonic over the average, but couldn’t be enough against this Miami. Furious beginning for Flash, he scored the first 9 points for the Heat while sophomores Chalmers and Beasley guided the defense as long as J.O.
Mario shined as he dominated on the two sides of the court, only 2 steals far from a triple-double.

*KEY PLAYERS* MIA
D. Wade – 27 pts, 3 reb, 1 ast
M. Chalmers – 21 pts, 13 ast, 8 stl
M. Beasley – 19 pts, 7 reb, 3 blk
J. O’Neal – 7 pts, 7 reb, 5 blk
J. Jones – 7 pts, 3 reb

*KEY PLAYERS* SEA
L. Powe – 20 pts, 9 reb, 6 blk
D. Gibson – 20 pts, 4 ast, 3 stl
L. Barbosa – 14 pts, 2 reb, 2 ast
M. Webster – 13 pts, 3 reb
D. Hunt – 11 pts, 9 reb, 3 blk

Preseason - game 4

Magic 105, Sonics 102
KeyArena
Seattle, WA

“Magic wins in close finish”
Seattle (AP) -- Bad, but not so bad. It’s another loss for the Sonics but, against the last season Eastern Conference winners, they showed signals of improvement. On the other hand they weren’t able to handle the head-to-head finish. Superman dominated in the paint and ended up with an easy double-double, while Jameer Nelson lead the team in points and assists. About Seattle, expecting the incoming regular season, the rookie Hunt is a better choice than Josh Boone for the starting center spot but the real problem concerns the guards: ‘cause Crittenton nor Brown nor Redick seem to be on a level with Barbosa and Gibson, especially the offensive production. Now the Chosen One is waiting for the Sonics, last stop before the opening night tip-off.

*KEY PLAYERS* SEA
L. Barbosa – 29 pts, 2 blk, 1 stl
D. Gibson – 22 pts, 7 ast, 4 stl
L. Powe – 11 pts, 6 ast, 5 reb
M. Webster – 10 pts, 2 reb, 1 ast
D. Hunt – 10 pts, 8 reb, 2 stl

*KEY PLAYERS* ORL
J. Nelson – 23 pts, 7 ast, 2 stl
D. Howard – 19 pts, 12 reb, 3 blk
M. Pietrus – 17 pts, 3 ast, 2 reb
H. Turkoglu – 13 pts, 4 reb, 1 ast
R. Lewis – 11 pts, 3 reb, 2 blk

Preseason - game 5

Cavaliers 128, Sonics 116
Quicken Loans Arena
Cleveland, OH

“It’s raining on the Sonics”
Cleveland (AP) -- Crash against the Cavaliers. Led by Mo Williams, Cleveland made the break in the third quarter with 22 points by King James. Szczerbiak and Quinn had a very good impact from the bench, especially Wally World with 3/5 from downtown. And Seattle? The Sonics had their usual great offensive performances from Gibson and Barbosa, while Powe and Hunt made good job in the paint, but the problem concerns the effort that doesn’t come off the pine… if someone would have foul trouble or would suffer an injury (do you remember Martell Webster?), the backup isn’t up to the starter.

*KEY PLAYERS* CLE
M. Williams – 30 pts, 16 ast, 1 stl
L. James – 30 pts, 3 reb, 1 stl
W. Szczerbiak – 16 pts, 2 ast, 1 reb
Z. Ilgauskas – 12 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast
C. Quinn – 12 pts, 1 ast

*KEY PLAYERS* SEA
D. Gibson – 29 pts, 3 ast, 2 stl
L. Barbosa – 23 pts, 4 ast, 2 reb
L. Powe – 16 pts, 8 reb, 2 ast
D. Hunt – 13 pts, 8 reb
M. Webster – 9 pts, 2 reb, 2 ast

D. Gibson – 20,4 pts, 4,2 ast, 2,8 stl
L. Barbosa – 20,2 pts, 2,4 ast, 1,4 reb
L. Powe – 14,6 pts, 7,4 reb, 1,8 blk
D. Hunt – 11,8 pts, 8,0 reb, 1,4 blk
M. Webster – 9,2 pts, 3,8 reb, 1,8 ast
J. Redick – 5,4 pts, 1,4 ast, 1,0 reb
J. Boone – 5,2 pts, 4,8 reb, 1,2 blk
S. Brown – 5,0 pts, 1,5 ast, 0,75 stl
H. Armstrong – 3,4 pts, 3,4 reb, 0,6 blk
J. Crittenton – 3,0 pts, 1,4 ast, 0,6 reb

Oh, a Live 2003 dynasty... Nice to see Leandro Barbosa do so well, I'm hoping he returns to form next season for the Suns.

“Thunder grabs lead but Powe rallies Sonics to win”
Oklahoma City (AP) -- A thrilling finish with the jumper by Leon Powe at 4.8 seconds that gave the definitive lead to Seattle, then Watson missed the buzzer beater. Sonics ahead by ten in the seconds quarter, but the comeback of the Thunder made a close game in the second half. Boobie shot 6/7 from downtown but had 10 turnovers too, while Daniel Hunt (named player of the game) dominated in the paint with his low-post game. Durant began the game well but then vanished as Jeff Green and Earl Watson closed the gap; Nenad from the bench helped the frontcourt as starting D.J. White disappeared due to too much fouls. Westbrook did not play with leg injury. Now Seattle is 2-0 and could keep the streak alive in the next game at Sacramento.
