The Collapse

::The Fall of an Era::

The Pacers would get off to a solid start winning 6 of their first 8 going into an Eastern Conference Finals rematch with the Detroit Pistons on the road. In the game the Pacers would continue their strong play winning 97-82, but in the final seconds of the game Ron Artest would get into a shoving match with the Pistons Ben Wallace, which would lead to one of the ugliest scenes in NBA as Ron Artest ended up attacking a fan after being hit with a cup, the rest of the game would be not played as the Pacers fought off the crowd. The aftermath would see Artest suspended for the rest of the season while Stephan Jackson was suspended for 30 and Jermaine O'Neal for 25 games. Though O'Neal's suspension was reduced to 15 games the Pacers struggled in their absence as they posted a 10-19 record in December and January. After the All-Star Break Jackson would return and O'Neal would return to full strength as the Pacers climbed out of a hole and back into playoff contention with a solid 8-4 February. The pacers continued to climb in march and April and would end up with the 6th seed in the East while finishing 3rd in the Central Division with a 44-38 record. In the playoffs the Pacers would face the Boston Celtics after dropping Game 1 the Pacers would rebound with an 82-79 win, after splitting the next 2 at home the Pacers would go into Boston and would win on the Celtics floor against 90-85 as Jermaine O'Neal recorded a double-double However, with a chance to close things out at home the Pacers would lose a heartbreaker in overtime 92-89. The Pacers would not be down long as they went onto Boston and won for 3rd time on the Celtics court 97-80 to set up a rematch with the Pistons. After losing Game 1 in Detroit the Pacers would rebound to win the next 2 games. However, with a chance to take a 3-1 series lead the Pacers offense would hit a wall as they lost Game 4 by 13 points at home. The Pacers would not win another game as the Pistons went on to win the series in 6 games, as an era came to an end in Indiana as longtime Pacer Reggie Miller retired after 18 seasons.

Staff Signings/Training Camp

Postby WhOwAnTsOmE on Sun Mar 25, 2007 5:19 am

Off-Season Moves (Staff Signings & Training Camp)

No Season is complete without a staff, right? With that, Rick Carlisle hit the pool and signed a couple of potential 3 year staff members on a $1.79M budget:

Image

After the Staff Signing period, Rick Carlisle sent Saul Harris to work with the team during the training camp period(s) concentrating on mostly the teams Defense which, in Carlisle's eyes, is the direction he wanted to take this team. A Fierce Defensive Team:

Image

After the signing and training camp period finally came to an end, Coach Carlisle bought himself a journal to jot down notes he will go by in order to have a successful season, he simply called it, the Coach's Journal. As his first entry, Rick Carlisle listed the teams Philosophy for the season:

Coach's Journal (Entry #1)

This team is going somewhere, I'm not sure where but I like the teams chances of going all the way. But in order to accomplish that, we will need to make some changes around the roster- make room for younger and future players. We need to surround Jermaine O'Neal with young talent that can help him get the ring that he rightfully deserves. Hopefully the signing of Jon Fajardo will help him out, although i know thats not enough, that should do for now until I get a hold of players I'm interested in. But to throw it out there, our teams Philosophy for this years will be as stated:

 Our team is young in some aspects of the court, I think we have enough fire power to get points on all FAST BREAK situations.
 This teams very multi-talented, we have outside and insider scorers. So the only thing I got is to BALANCE our shots INSIDE and OUT.
 We like looking for open spots and attacking them. This team is very patient and thats all I can ask for, we need to maintain our FINESSE style on that court and control the flow of the game on both sides of the ball.
 Our zone still hasn't proven to be dominant. We will have to be in MAN for most of the season thrwoing in a zone defense or 2 along the way.

With these points out in the open, I hope it can help me rebuild this team before it's too late for Jermaine O'Neal. Our first game is against the Miami Heat and they will prove to be a challenge for us. So I dont know if that game will be a perfect one for us to try out some new things in. We'll just have to play hard and smart and hopefully we get the win. As for Fajardo, I dont think I will put him in tonights starting line-up, he's still young and I dont know what he can do for us. He'll have to show us what he's got off the bench as he'll go in for Jamaal Tinsley.

And with that closing sentence, Jon Fajardo will not start and will have to show his former team mate, now best friend, Dwyane Wade why he was named MVP twice for Marquette off the bench.

Player Card

Coaches Note: Jon Fajardo has everything it takes to be a Franchise Player once Jermaine O'Neal is gone. But until then, he'll need to work on his confidence. He feels that with his 5'10" stature, he'll be struggling with all his shots. It's not true! If he cant attack the rim like he did back in college everything will be okay. Overall speaking, Jon has great speed and he;s a decent passer in the fast break situations, he can attack the rim although we may need to raise his confidence in the long run. He's not easily fatigued so we can have him out there as a PG and SG when needed. Otherwise, his confidence is the only thing he lacks on the court. But I think that can get fixed easily.

Player Rotation

Player Rotation/Line-up

As the first game of the season approached, Rick Carlisle set out the depth chart for the 2005-2006 season which showed that Indiana was too deep in the 3 position and not deep enough in the 2 position.

Game 1 Preview @ Miami

Indiana Pacers vs. Miami Heat Preview

As Coach Carlisle began preparing for his tough match-up between his Pacers and the Miami Heat, he began writing key notes that may help him in defeating the Championship bound team:

Coach's Journal (Entry #2)

This game could be a preview of the Playoffs for us if we play our cards right. But until then, Dwyane Wade and Shaquille are the teams most consistent shooters and their number 1 and 2 guys. If we take them out early, their team will be in big trouble and will be forced to jack up unecceassary shots. We need to force Jermaine O'Neal to tire Shaq our of force him to commit fouls. Also, we need to keep Dwyane Wade out of the key, he is too deadly to be let through. But we shouldn't have any trouble with David Harrison and Jermaine O'Neal in our front court along with Ron Artest.

Game 2 Preview vs. Charlotte

Charlotte Bobcats @ Indiana Pacers Preview

Coach's Journal (Entry #3)

We now have probably on of the most effective trios in the NBA today. Smith and Fajardo will help alot with O'Neal, giving him more space to move around in. We will be needing a decent gameplan for the 3. Probably the triple threat. We'll see how it works. Also, Granger will get his first shot at starting at the 3. Keep an eye on him. This game will be interesting pitting Okafor against O'Neal. There both strong and powerful. There only difference would be their age! But this game should be interesting in the post. J.R. Smith should have a decent game over the Bobcats' Kareem Rush. Rush is still a mystery to many so lets take advantage of that.

Hardly any replies?

This dynasty looks real nice. I love the articles. I take it this isn't on PC? I say that because of the custom box scores.

Anyway, nice stuff. Good to see you didn't have a huge bias playing with your created player. By the way, if thats you (the created player), you remind me of Gilbert Arenas.

Thanks i'll get on top of that right away...and I got J.R. Smith because they needed a SF and were very interested in Ron Artest and i needed a SG aso it all came together in the end. hopefully u continue to follow.

Thanks, yeah its not on PC. I tried giving you guys the "PC taste" with those box scores so hopefully you like it. Yeah i hate when people create themselves and have 50 point back to back games like Kobe and stuff haha...And i get that a lot, but i dont think i look like Gilbert Arenas. But thanks for following....keep doing it, too! Haha, Thanks again.

Detroit Pistons vs. Indiana Pacers Preview

Coach's Journal (Entry #4)

J.R. Smith and Jermaine O'Neal peformed sectacular! And Jon Fajardo was superb! But we have the Pistons next and their whole starting line-up can put up 25+ when needed. Richard Hamilton is our biggest threat at the line so stay clear of him when fouling. On defense, although Big Ben is an excellent rebounder, he leads his team in turnovers so we may want to pressure him. And Tayshaun is the guy we need to worry about on defense as he averages 3.50 blocks a game.

Game 4 Preview vs. Washington

Postby WhOwAnTsOmE on Mon Mar 26, 2007 5:37 am

Indiana Pacers vs. Washington Wizards

Coach's Journal (Entry #5)

We must stop Antoine Jamison as he is his teams leading scorer and leading offensive rebounder. He averages 9.0 defensive rebounds a game but he leads his team with 8 fouls, so take it to him on every drive play. Caron Butler has 10 turnovers- the most on his team, so pressure him into giving up the ball. We also must double Gilbert Arenas and make him make mistakes on the court. Etan Thomas is their primary shot blocker off the bench so watch out for him and Gilbert Arenas is quick enough to close gaps on the defense so play smart with him. Also, given Jermaine O'Neal has had 35+ in our last 3 games already i think it would be smart to let Smith and Fajardo get a crack at getting some big numbers. We could use Jermaine as a space giver for Smith and Fajardo on the drive. Hopefully this plan will work.

Nice dynasty, interesting articles. (Y)

What a victory over Pistons. Jermaine O'Neal is playing like a monster so far and your stats are also pretty good, not so many points, but a lot of assists, I like it.

Keep going

Man, I love this dynasty. My favorite part is actually the coach's journal, though the news articles are pretty ballin', too.

And as for your question, yes I think you should keep doing articles like the NBA News one. Most dynasties (mine included) don't focus enough on what's going on in the rest of league. I think it's a good change of pace.
