Grrr... I already played the Jazz game but then the game quit to Windows. I had such a nice staff too. Oh well, I can't play on the weekends so I'll just do all the photoshopping and stuff in the weekdays.

Meet the Rookies: Steve Novak
Image

"And with the 32nd Pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, the Houston Rockets select Steve Novak from Marquette University."

Rookie Steve Novak couldn't have had a better start to his career. With double team demanders Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady and the recent addition of Bonzi Wells, sharpshooter Steve Novak couldn't ask for more.

As a Junior in Marquette, Steve Novak averaged 17.5 PPG, 5.9 RPG to go with 1.3 APG. He shot 47.7% from the field and 46.7% from beyond the arc, making 121 of 259 triples and shot 97.4% from the free throw line.

A likely scenario for Steve Novak in scoring is when superstars Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady get double teamed, Steve Novak will have an open look to the basket, and chances are, it's going in.

The entire Rockets staff is happy to see Steve here in Houston and with an excellent supporting cast, Rockets are headed deep into the playoffs.

This has the promise to be a really good dynasty. I like the introduction of Novak - he should be a key piece to your success.

Tracy McGrady wins the game in Overtime

Image

The whole game rallied up and down, with Houston leads by as many as 15 to Utah leads at 11. Much of the 4th quarter was on Yao Ming, Bonzi Wells, Shane Battier, Tracy McGrady and Luther Head.

Yao Ming hit a huge 3 pointer late in the 4th quarter to cut the Utah lead to 3, then draws the charge on the other end. Luther Head inbounds to T-Mac who throws down a pass to Yao. He dunks it and cuts it to a 1 point game. Utah rallied back with back to back dunks from Andrei Kirilenko, taking the score to 126, Luther Head hits a 3 to tie the game with 1:47 to go. Derek Fisher then draws a foul from Luther Head to complete a 3 point play, with the Jazz up by 3. On the other end Bonzi Wells draws the double team on the fast break and throws it out to T-Mac who spots up for a 3 to tie the game with 35 seconds remaining.

Jerry Sloan calls a time out. Boozer then hits a fade away jump shot over Bonzi. Yao hits a jump hook with 14.4 left on the clock. Another time out called by Jerry Sloan. Derek Fisher missed a potential game winner and the Rockets and Jazz head into overtime.

In overtime, Jeff Van Gundy plays the unit of Mutombo, Howard, Snyder, Alston and newly acquired Vassilis Spanoulis from Greece, hoping to help the 4th quarter unit to gain a bit of rest. They hold the game solid and then Yao, Bonzi, Battier, T-Mac and Luther Head come on the game with a bit more than 3 minutes remaining. T-Mac hits another clutch 3 to make the Rockets up by 2. Yao Ming dunks it to make it a 4 point lead. Luther Head fouls Deron Williams who hits both his free throws and the lead is cut down to 2. Rockets go to their clutch performer Tracy McGrady to hit 2 over Deron Williams.

Yao then hits an off-balance shot with 24.9 left on the clock. Jerry Sloan takes another time out. Deron Williams misses a 3 but Carlos Boozer grabs the offensive rebound and lays it in.

Now Rockets are up by 1, Jazz look to foul. With 15.3 left, the score is 146-145. Head hits the first but misses the second. Rookie Paul Millsap grabs the rebound and another time out is called Jerry Sloan. Sloan sets the play up for Gordon Giricek, He shoots and Bonzi Wells fouls him. He misses the second free throw but Mehmet Okur tips it in. Utah are now holding onto a 1 point lead. Jeff Van Gundy calls a time-out, Tracy McGrady winds the clocks down and shoots a 3 pointer over Gordon Giricek with 0.5 seconds to go.

Luther Head and former teammate Deron Williams play against each other. Deron Williams outscored Luther Head but on 41 shots.

Yeah ! Very nice win for Yao and T-Mac. That's nice that you defended Deron Williams, his FG 8-41, that's nice ! And one suggestion - use links on boxscores, it would be better! Can't wait for more games ! (Y)

12 mins a quarter? You should lower it to get more realistic scores.

Terry and Mavs survive late comeback

Jason Terry was unstoppable in tonight's match, netting 40 points including 6 3 pointers and dishing out 8 assists. Dirk Nowitzki shot perfect from the field and grabbed 16 rounds and had 5 blocks

Rockets Rookie Steve Novak got some time in the 4th quarter and hit back to back 3 pointers along with an assist down low to Yao to cap off an 8-0 for the Rockets. Another play by the Rookie was a 3 point buzzer beater over Dirk Nowitzki.

The Rockets who have let the last 2 teams shot 50% or above hope to bring more defense into their next game.

"Good teams play defense unless you're the Phoenix Suns. We're the Houston Rockets. We don't have an excellent playmaker point guard to set ourselves up to outscore the other opponent. If we're going to win, we're going to need defense." says Head Coach Jeff Van Gundy.

"We need defense. They're the Dallas Mavericks and not some scrub team. They went to the Finals last year. Offensively, we're doing great, but they did better." says Tracy McGrady, who scored a team high 32 points for the Rockets.
