The Bad Boys of New York - The Story of the 2007 Knicks

Postby ixcuincle on Tue Oct 10, 2006 10:55 pm

From 1988 to 1990 the Bad Boys of Detroit dominated the NBA world. Stars like Rick Mahorn , Bill Laimbeer , Isiah Thomas , and Joe Dumars thrilled fans at the newly built Palace of Auburn Hills. In 2007 Isiah Thomas tried to replicate the "Bad Boy" teams he had played on in the late 80's , placing them in the city of New York. This is the story of the New York "Bad Boys" , who were supposed to resemble the 1988 Bad Boys with strong defense and physical play.

The franchise began by drafting Hilton Armstrong in the first round of the 2006 NBA draft.

Several coaches were signed , and the Knicks started off optimistic about the outcome of the season. This optimism quickly faded though , with a blowout loss to Memphis.

Image

Many of the Knicks games later on would resemble the Memphis game : Poor offense , low scoring , and poor shooting. The Knicks continued to get blown out as they struggled to adapt to a new style of play. Eventually , the Knicks finally got their first win against Houston, but soon continued their losing ways. The Knicks at one point were 2-10 , many of the games being embarassing blowouts and lackluster offensive efforts. In one win against Miami , the only reason the Knicks won was Marbury's 45 points , no one else contributed much to the effort. Angered by the lack of offense and poor play , the Knicks traded Steve Francis to Denver for Kenyon Martin. The Knicks managed to win 2 straight , and are now 4-10.

Favored Players on New York

Stephon Marbury - Initially benched out of rage for comments last year regarding "Starbury" , but saw more playing time when it became apparent he was the only player on New York who could actually hit a shot.

Maurice Taylor - Even though he isn't on the Knicks anymore in real life , Taylor has played well during his Knicks tenure. During the 2 game streak Taylor has been beneficial to the team , contributing 15-20 points.

Kenyon Martin - In his return to New York (although with a different team) Martin has adjusted to the new system and is a great supporting cast member on the team. In addition , he provides , along with Curry , great shot blocking and strong defense under the rim.

Eddy Curry - Defensive center who blocks shots , and scores points.

Players in the Dog House

Quentin Richardson - Poor effort and inability to hit shots drew ire from Isiah Thomas , and Richardson does not start as often. He is showing some signs of improvement , but continues to sit on the bench.

nice idea, and are you entertaining trades for Q-Rich. if so, you could try to play out the bad boys scenario a bit more and try to bring in ron artest.

I don't think I can make any more trades...the Knicks are already 42 mil over the salary cap. I once tried to trade someone (can't remember off the top of my head) for Kobe Bryant , and the trade meter indicated Kobe was very interested in coming to NY , but I later got an email saying "We'd love to do this trade but you are over the cap. Free up cap space" :(

Bulls 85 - Knicks 75

The Knicks lost another one , this one to the Chicago Bulls , and fell to 4-11 in the young season. The Knicks , in the 4th , were in the game but the Bulls began to pull away after the Knicks committed idiotic penalties and mistakes to waste offensive possesions. On one possession , the power forward was trying to score a bucket , was inbounds , yet was ruled "out of bounds , Chicago Ball". On another possession the Knicks stole the ball and Marbury ignorantly tried to layup a three pointer from basically the other side of the court. :x

Another tough loss, do you think you could provide the boxscores? You can also trade while over the cap limit as long as the Salaries of the two players are the same or the difference is no greater than 10% (not positive its 10%)

You should REALLY try to beef up that team chemistry. Oh well, it's nothing new, it's the Knicks so their chemistry must not have been that high in the first place.

63!!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!! :D

sorry, sorry. this is about you.

anyway, what about gerald wallace? i'd assume that the bobcats are a long way under the salary cap. given that they are in real life, and he's probably second only to ron artest in the league in terms of defensive small forwards. it doesnt look as though scoring is a problem for you. you could probably package Q-Rich and one of your backup 4's.

you've got a lot of depth, which will be your friend should you decide to make a deal down the line. (Y)

Knicks trade Jamal Crawford to Charlotte for Adam Morrison

The Knicks made a major trade today as they moved shooting guard Jamal Crawford to Charlotte for rookie shooting guard Adam Morrison. The Knicks had recently had a problem with three-point shooting from beyond the arc , and the only player who consistently hit three-pointers was Marbury. Previously , the franchise had Steve Francis but traded Francis to Denver for Kenyon Martin. Crawford was expected to step in and provide the 20+ points per game the Knicks lost when Francis was traded , but never really scored close to 20 ppg after Francis was traded. The Knicks hope the decision to trade for a proven shooter in the college game can help benefit their team , which has suffered a lot of disasterous 4th quarter collapses of late.

The Knicks are 11-18.

Crawford is one of my favourite Knicks, even though he's a shot chucker. Morrison's an interesting addition and contrasts what Thomas normally wants (an athletic underachiever). Martin's a douchebag in real life, but I guess in Live he's pretty kick ass.

Interesting trade, probably ood for you, but im sure the Bobcats would never do it realistcally. Like Its asdf, im a fan of Crawford, but Morrison is pretty cool (Y)

Knicks 118 - Pistons 116 (OT)

Adam Morrison started off his Knicks debut at Madison Square Garden with a bang , scoring 48 points and helping to lead the New York Knicks over the Detroit Pistons in overtime , 118 - 116. The game featured the fouling out of both point guards Stephon Marbury and Nate Robinson , forcing Morrison to play point guard in the final minutes of overtime.

The Knicks were lucky to win this game , as Chauncey Billups wreaked havoc on the Knicks. Billups ended up with 58 points.

Morrison had a good game (Y) I think Rose would be far more capable of playing PG than Morrison....

Quick update :

Knicks have now won 3 straight , their longest winning streak of the year , and the troubles of a few weeks ago seem to be behind this team. The Knicks' last 3 wins have all been against playoff teams from last year (Detroit , Phoenix , Los Angeles Clippers). The acquisition of Adam Morrison has revolutionized the team , as Morrison has been the perfect scorer to complement Marbury. The 2 combined carry the Knicks to victory , as Morrison has scored 48 , 20 , and 22 points respectively against the 3 playoff teams from last year.

Quentin Richardson's play has improved , and he is no longer the subject of trade rumors. He is one of 3 players that can actually hit threes with consistency , the other 2 are Marbury and Morrison.

Current Starting Lineups

C Eddy Curry
PF Kenyon Martin
SF Quentin Richardson
SG Adam Morrison
PG Stephon Marbury

The Knicks are 15-18.

Good to hear the team is picking it up, a few more wins without loss and you should be back at .500, easier said than done though I guess

Woot, glad to hear that Q has stepped his game up. I'm still rooting for the guy even though he's turned into a chucker.
