With McGrady obviously upset with the direction this franchise is heading, he has demanded a trade. While many teams such as Phoenix, Indiana, and Houston have made very enticing deals, newly enstated GM Nick The Wise was most impressed with an offer from the Dallas Mavericks and pulled the trigger on a deal that sent Tracy McGrady, DeShawn Stevenson, and Juwan Howard to the Mavs in exchange for Dirk Nowitzki, Marquis Daniels, and Danny Fortson.
Image ImageImage

NTW: "We are sad to lose Tracy, but think we have found our new franchise player in Dirk, and up-and-coming talent who can play the 1, 2, or 3 in Daniels, and hard nosed rebounder Danny Fortson."

More updates to come soon, and maybe a roster change or two.

Key Matchup:
Image vs Image

Both Nowitzki and Thomas are tall perimiter players so they should match up well. Dirk is more solid all around and should have the advantage, but Thomas will give him trouble with his D, and will force Dirk to play some D of his own.

Starting Lineups:
Fortson - K. Thomas
Gooden - Baker
Nowitzki - T. Thomas
Daniels - Houston
Lue - Marbury

In order for Orlando to win Nowitzki and Gooden must come up big. Fortson must be able to control the glass, while Daniels and Lue must be able to challenge Houston and Marbury. If they don't the backcourt of the Knicks may be the downfall of the Magic.

Orlando Wins in Season Opener

Orlando started strong and finished strong as they won their season opener against the New York Knicks 84-73.

Player of Game:
Image
Dirk Nowitzki had a game high 30 points, 13 of which game in the first quarter. Dirk was 11/18 shooting and was 2/3 from downtown. He also pulled down 4 rebounds.

Orlando Key Players:
Dirk Nowitzki; 30 pts, 4 rbs
Marquis Daniels; 15 pts, 5 ast
Drew Gooden; 12 pts, 5 rbs
Tyronn Lue; 10 pts, 7 ast
Danny Fortson; 7 rbs
Stephen Hunter; 4 blks, 4 rbs

New York Key Players
Allan Houston; 18 pts, 4 ast
Stephon Marbury; 18 pts, 3 rbs, 5 ast
Tim Thomas; 9 pts, 6 rbs

NEXT GAME: vs New Orleans

Key Matchup:
Image vs Image

Tyronn Lue's ability to keep B-Diddy in check will be imperative to the success of Orlando in tonights matchup. Davis is 45 lbs heavier than Lue and will give him huge problems. Lue must use his quickness on offense to wear down the poorly conditioned Davis if he doesnt want to get embarrassed.

Starting Lineups:
Fortson - Magloire
Gooden - Brown
Nowitzki - Mashburn
Daniels - Wesley
Lue - Davis

Look for Daniels and Nowitzki to have big games again. Daniels is nearly half a foot taller than Wesley and is very quick. Mashburn is worse at defense than Dirk so Dirk should have no problem having a huge game. Fortson must be able to control Magloire for the Magic to win but since that seems unlikely, look for Jamal to have a big game.

Orlando wins Home Opener 96-85

In a hard fought battle against New Orleans, the Magic overcame a 10 pt deficit at the end of the 3rd, and outscored the Hornets 34-13 in the 4th and final period.

Player of the Game:
Image
Dirk took home Player of the Game honors again scoring 31 pts, grabbing 4 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists. Dirk had 18 points in the second half, and was 11/11 at the free throw line.

For New Orleans, Baron Davis had a huge game but got very little help from his teammates. Baron had a hard time keeping up with Tyronn, and it showed as Lue dropped 23 points.

Both Gooden and Magloire nearly had double doubles for their respective teams.

Orlando Key Players:
Nowitzki- 31 pts, 4 rbs, 4 ast
Lue- 23 pts, 3 rbs, 3 ast
Gooden- 11 pts, 9 rbs
Daniels- 11 pts, 5 ast
Fortson- 2 pts, 6 rbs, 4 stl

New Orleans Key Players:
Davis- 28 pts, 8 ast , 4/8 3PFG
Wesley- 14 pts, 3 rbs, 4 ast
Magloire- 12 pts, 8 rbs
S. Williams- 9 pts, 8 mins
Mashburn- 9 pts, 2 ast, 2 rbs, 5 TO

Next Game: vs Minnesota (1-1)

Key Matchup:
Image vs Image
Drew Gooden will have his hands full tonight. After 2 average games he must elevate his game to match the intensity of KG. If he doesn't the former league MVP may very well embarass him.

Starting Lineups:
Fortson - Olowakandi
Gooden - Garnett
Nowitzki - Sczerbiak
Daniels - Spreewell
Lue - Cassell

Once again Orlandos success may be dependant on how well Lue and Daniels keep the opposing backcourt in check. Spree and Sam are obviously more skilled than Lue and Daniels, but dont count the Magic backcourt out, their youth and quickness may save them.
Dirk is facing another non-defensive SF and as long as he can put a hand in Wallys face he should have no trouble there.

Magic Lose to Timberwolves after Strong Start, 77-84

After leading 31-17 after the first quarter, the Magic never won another quarter. This could be due to the fact that KG picked up 2 fouls in the first 2 minutes and was forced to sit for the rest of the first. Or it could be a sign that this Magic team has trouble closing out games.

Player of the Game:
Image
Sam I Am had 19 points and 8 assists, and had 9 pts 4 assists in the final quarter. Sam torched whoever was guarding him and was able to find his teammates for easy buckets.

Orlando Key Players:
Nowitzki- 37 pts, 15/22 FG, 7/9 3PTFG
Lue- 9 pts, 3 rbs, 8 ast
Daniels- 7 pts, 3 rbs
Fortson- 4 pts, 7 rbs

Minnesota Key Players:
Sczerbiak- 20 pts
Spreewell- 19 pts, 4 stl, 3ast
Cassell- 19 pts, 8 ast
Garnett- 14 pts, 6 rbs, 6 blk, 2 ast
Olowakandi- 6 pts, 6 rbs

Dirk played outstanding tonight, but unfortunantly noone else wearing a Magic uniform did. Lue and Daniels were outscored by Cassell and Spreewell 16-38. Garnett wasnt the offensive powerhouse he can sometimes be, but with 6 blocks and stellar defense he kept Gooden from making any serious impact. With this loss the Magic fall to 2-1

Next Game: @ Houston (0-1)

go with 4. Hill off the bench seems real strong and Fortson is a great big man who could help you muscle with some of the bigger guys in the league. Bogans is kinda fun to play with.

Tough loss to mah wolves!

Yea I was leaning towards 4 too... Lue would be good energy off the bench. I also like playing tall ball.. and with Bogans at point I'd be able to do that.

Yea I was bummed about the wolves, I started out so well when KG got in foul trouble. Then he came back and the game changed.

With this trade I was able to acquire a great shooter in Kareem, a great passer in Luke, and a GREAT bench warmer in Fox.

Magic lose 108-115 in a high scoring affair to the Rockets

The new additions werent enough to quiet Yao and the Rockets who were able to sustain the lead for nearly the entire game. Kareem and Dirk lead the team in scoring but both shot under 43% from the field.

Player of the Game:
Image
Yao dominated the game scoring 16 pts of 7/8 shooting, grabbed 15 rebounds, had 3 blocks and dished out 3 assist. He was too much for anyone on the Magic to handle.

Orlando Key Players:
Nowitzki- 31 pts, 7 rbs, 2 ast
Rush, 25 pts, 2 rbs, 5 ast
Gooden- 16 pts, 14 rbs, 3 ast
Daniels- 9 pts, 2 rbs, 2 ast
Fortson- 9 pts, 6 rbs, 10 mins
Walton- 5 pts, 2 rbs, 4 ast
Lue- 4 pts, 3 orb, 4 ast

Houston Key Players:
Mobley- 32 pts, 2 rbs, 2 ast
Jackson- 16 pts, 3 rbs, 2 ast
Yao- 16 pts, 15 rbs, 3ast
Francis- 14 pts, 3 rbs, 14 ast
Piatkowski- 14 pts, 9 mins
Taylor- 9 pts, 10 rbs

With this loss my Magic fell to 2-2

Next Game: @ Los Angeles Clippers (3-1)

Clippers vs Magic Preview

Key Matchup
Image vs Image
Both Livingston and Daniels are tall point guards who should match up well against each other. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
(Yes, I created Shaun Livingston as a 62 overall... only rookie I created)

Starting Lineups
Kaman - Gooden
Brand - Nowitzki
Richardson - Walton
Maggette - Rush
Livingston - Daniels

Rush and Walton are gonna have to come up big on D and slow Q and Maggette. Dirk will likely spend alot of time at SF guarding Q because Brand will likely be too much for him down low, expect Fortson to play big minutes off the bench keeping Brand in check.

Magic come away with win!

In a game that came down to a missed 3 pointer by rookie Shaun Livingston, the Orlando Magic were able to claim victory, 97-95. This game was close throughout the entire 32 minutes and no team lead by more than 5 points.

Player of the Game
Image
Dirk dominated in his first game at the PF spot, scoring a season high 49 points off 22/31 shooting, grabbing a season high 13 rebounds, and dishing out 2 assists.

Orlando Key Players:
Nowitzki- 49 pts, 13 rbs, 2 ast
Rush- 19 pts, 4 rbs, 5 ast
Daniels- 10 pts, 2 rbs, 7 ast
Hill- 8 pts, 2 rbs, 8 mins
Gooden- 7 pts, 8 rbs
Walton- 2pts, 6 rbs, 5 ast

LAC Key Players:
Livingston- 26 pts, 2 rbs, 4 ast
Brand- 25 pts, 3 rbs, 3 blk, 2 ast
Maggette- 17 pts, 5 rbs
Richardson- 15 pts, 4 rbs, 16 mins
Kaman- 4 pts, 8 rbs, 2 blk

My biggest break came in the 3rd quarter when Q went down with a leg injury after a collision with Kareem Rush. Walton has been shooting horribly since his arrival in Orlando but his ability to contribute without scoring makes him extreamly valuable. After this win, my record has improved to 3-2.

Next Game: @ Utah (2-3)

Blowout in Utah!
Magic win 106-74
The game was close up until halftime, then Dirk and the Magic blew the game open outscoring the Jazz 75-46 in the second half. The Magic shot an outstanding 11/21 from downtown and for the first time this season all 12 active players scored.

Player of the Game:
Image
No surprises here, for the 4th time of the season Dirk took home player of the game honors scoring 37 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Dirk had 24 points in the decisive second half.

Orlando Key Players:
Nowitzki- 37 pts, 9 rbs
Gaines- 10 pts, 2 rbs, 2 blk, 3 stl, 3 ast, 11 mins
Rush- 10 pts, 4 ast
Lue- 9 pts, 2 rbs, 2 ast
Gooden- 8 pts, 9 rbs
Daniels- 6 pts, 8 ast
Walton- 5 pts, 4 rbs, 6 ast

Utah Key Players
Giricek- 20 pts, 2 rbs
Arroyo- 18 pts, 3 rbs, 4 ast, 10 TO
Kiralenko- 11 pts, 2 rbs, 4 blk

Reece Gaines had a career night, making the most of every minute he was on the floor. This is a good sign for the Magic as Grant Hill went down with a leg injury early in the 3rd and is expected to miss some time. With this win the Magic improve to 4-2.

Next Game: @ Phoenix (2-2)

Injury Update

As was expected Grant Hill has suffered a sprained ankle and has been placed on the injured list, meaning he must spend at least 5 games on the sidelines. His replacement is SG/PG Derrek Dial.

Image - injured with sprained ankle

Image - eager to make an impact

When asked about what kind of role he is expected to play Dial responded; "Nothing big, probably just some spot minutes here and there. When they call on me, I'll be ready."

Phoenix too hot for Magic
Magic fall 80-95

In a game that was dominated by defense, the Orlando Magic could not make a big enough run to challenge Phoenix for the game, coming within 3 during the final minutes of the 3rd but never getting any closer than that. The 3rd quarter run was spearheaded by Danny Fortson, Reece Gaines and the stellar defense of Stephen Hunter.

Player of the Game:
Image
JJ had a team high 25 points, 21 coming in the second half. Kareem Rush had no answer for JJ who burned him on nearly every possestion in the 3rd. JJ also contributed 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Image
Nowitzki- 30 pts, 3 rbs
Rush- 13 pts, 3 rbs
Gooden- 12 pts, 12 rbs
Gaines- 6 pts, 2 rbs, 2 ast
Fortson- 6 pts, 4 rbs
Daniels- 6 pts, 5 ast
Walton- 5 pts, 4 rbs, 4 ast

Image
Johnson- 25 pts, 4 rbs, 3 ast
Marion- 22 pts, 7 rbs, 2 ast
Stoudemire- 13 pts, 2 rbs
Clark- 12 pts, 3 rbs
Mourning- 8 pts, 6 rbs, 4 blk, 2 stl
Eisley- 5 pts, 3 rbs, 6 ast
Barbosa- 7 ast

Their D was just too much for me. Only positive for this game is that Dirk has kept his streak of 30+ pt games alive... With the loss the Magic slip to 4-3.

Next Game: @ Sacramento (1-5)

Try starting Hunter. He has a low overall, but he's a mobile big man who is a good rebounder and shot blocker. When I messed around with the Magic, my defense took a drop when Hunter had to sit down on the bench. Plus, he's big enough to guard big big men like Yao. You also have a scoring option off the bench in Gooden...but otherwise, liking the dynasty so far :).

Yea I was considering starting Hunter just because he's such a good blocker. If I don't end up starting him I'll def. start playing him more minutes by moving Dirk to SF, and Gooden to PF or something like that.
Thanks for the comment, FanOfAll.
