Atlanta Dynasty

Mon Feb 23, 2004 11:38 pm

After all the trades the hawks have been doing these passed weeks i looked at what they were aiming for... cap space, a chance to rebuild and go go after big name free agents.
doing a Hawks Dynasty never entered my mine till "tales" suggested it in another thread
so here it is....
First off i checked the hawks roster to find that they had about 9 free agents the perfect chance to offload big contracts and bring in new blood. What ive done is sim almost all of the 03/04 season just to hurry things on alittle, the hawks didnt have the best of years not making the playoff was good enough for the 12th pick in the draft something that i really wanted an ok draft pick to develop into an allstar player. i was aiming for a post player to build my team around but with the 12th pick there wasnt much up for graps but never the less i took a long time examining each possible pick till i make choose... P.J KIRK... a 6.10 235lbs pf/sf from North Carolina st.
P.J has really impressed me as not only can he play pf/sf but he has the strength and speed to guard most center's only downside is that his defense needs alot of work but on the whole a good pick up...
nba comparison - Drew Gooden
in the second round there was not much left at all as it was an average draft to begin with, just going for size i took no time in drafting 6.11 239lbs MARIAN BOYES from Hofstra....Hofstra???
Boyes could have something, not much offensive skills but theres enough defence there to work with.
Free agents.....
i resigned Jason Terry to a one year deal same with Stephen Jackson.all the big name free agents choose to resign with current teams :(
in the free agent market i picked up Jamal Crawford to a three year deal worth 162.000 , signed Darius Miles to a one year 162.000 deal(never really been a big fan of D-Miles as ive posted many times but his play at Portland has really made me eat my words so... he's in..lol)
next in was Keith Bogans, one year deal minimum paid..
i signed most of my players mainly because they were the best players available and i couldnt pass on then.
Trades....
iam also trying to build the team on defence, perimeter defence to be exact. With S.Jackson already on board i went after one of my favourite players.... good scorer inside and out great defence = James Posey!!
Robbed Memphis of him with a Jamal Crawford & Keith Bogans for James Posey & DeJuan Rolling trade (DeJuan, 6.3 176lb pg throw in to make the deal work ).
went to enter the season when i took a good look at the roster and saw that i need a center and a point guard before i could even think about playing. i turned to the free agents list and got alittle help from one time hawk, recently waived (by me) Joel Przybilla sign for 100.000 (!!!) one year deal. lastly i took a pg Jamal Cato, a second round draft pick of Toronto but later waived. Cato a 6.0 176lbs pg out of his home town Oklahoma st.
Roster...

C-Joel Przybilla
PF-P.J Kirk
SF-Stephen Jackson
SG-James Posey
PG-Jason Terry

sf-Darius Miles
sg-Boris Diaw
sf-Chris Crawford
pf-Alan Henderson
c-Marian Boyes
sg-Travis Hanson
pg-Jamal Cato
injury list
sg-Dejuan Rollings
pg-Terrell Brandon's contract.

First game is against the 03/04 champs L.A lakers

Tue Feb 24, 2004 12:34 am

Looking forward to it, (Y)

I'd tank the season and go get a high draft pick again... You need frontcourt players and better free agents...

Tue Feb 24, 2004 2:06 am

First game vs the lakers...
the home team came out with a winning attitude going on a 10-2 run, if anyone thought that the lakers would be missing the retired Karl malone they were very much mistaken. Brian Cook the second year newly appointed starting power forward came out with a point to prove as he schooled rookie P.J kirk with a buch of low post moves that would of made Wilt Chamberlain proud sending a message to Kirk that he has alot to learn, Cook finished with 20 points on 8/11 shooting in 31 minutes he also added 5 rebounds. But the star of the show was Kobe Bryant testing the Hawks defence early with a balanced attack of inside and outside scoring, at the half kobe had put up 18 points while Shaq had gone scoreless in 17 minutes leaving the door wide open for rising star Devean George who like team mate Kobe showed why the lakers are nba champions with 16 point of his own.
The Hawks got off to a slow start while the team with 5 new faces took till midway through the second quarter to play as a team , James Posey hit for 12 while Stephen Jackson dropped in 10.
Half time score - 39-51 Lakers
The hawks got off to a fast start in the second half coming out with a full court press which shocked the Lakers into making a few quick turnovers which the hawks turned into point to get the lead down to 6. In response Kobe hit back with back to back threes followed by a three from George and finally a dunk by Shaq for his first two of the game finished of a 11-0 run by the lakers. by the end of the 3rd rookies P.J Kirk, Marian Boyes and Jamal Cato had all left there mark. P.J hit 3 big baskets off offensive rebounds, Boyes had 2 blocks and Cato rattled out 4 point 3 assists and 2 rebound in his first action of the game after been put in place of Jason Terry who was having a bad shooting game, Terry would pick up in the four finishing with 13 points 6 assists.
the 4th quarter was a show put on for the laker faithful who had come to see there team play as Kobe had 16 4th quarter point while George helped with 10 more, Devean would go on to finish with 26 points on 9/18 from the field. Bryant gave the crowd what they wanted with 42point including 7 three pointer.Shaq handed in only 3 points however played great defence with 11 rebounds and 2 blocks. Payton also had 10 assits for the lakers.
The hawks got a huge surprise from Joel Przybilla a player early waived by the club showing that he deservers his place on the team with 15 points on 7/7 shooting 9 rebounds and 1 block Przybilla also handed out four assists, James Posey would put up at fight with 28 points to lead the Hawks followed by Stephen Jackson's 20.
Hawks first round pick P.J Kirk was in foul trouble most of the game finishing with 4 points 10 rebounds, Miles came of the bench with a quite 7 points in 14 minute of play.
Final score = 104-114 Lakers.

next game away to the nets.

Tue Feb 24, 2004 5:07 am

Hawks 0-2

Todays game away to the nets...
after the first game i put the team though some training drills to get the best out of then for this hard game on the road.
the game started very well with Posey on fire hitting his first 5 shots to give the Hawks an early lead over the nets. The Nets came out really flat in there first game of the season putting up only 13 points in the first quarter only problem was that my offence was just as flat as only James Posey could make a shot. Not much to talk about from the first, P.J kirk held Kenyon Martin to 2 points and 2 fouls.
second quarter....
Kerry Kittles made the most of Martin been out of the game taken pass after pass from allstar Jason Kidd to pull away with the lead 22-28, it took the Hawks 3 minutes to get on the scoreboard in the 2nd. Jason Terry was off to another bad start with turnovers and bad miss shots while Stephen Jackson was no where to be seen. Kittles and Kidd ran away with the second, Kittles 16points Kidd 5 assists, Posey 19 points Kirk 8 rebounds. Half time score 43-49.
3rd quarter...
P.J Kirk showed that he could play defence racking up 5 rebounds and 5 blocks in the early part of the 3rd before picking up his 4th fouls forcing him to sit.Posey continued to score as did kittles to run out the 3rd.
( thinking of trading for a three point shooter, sick of having no bench to turn to, thinking of offloading Miles but il let him play at home before i pull the trigger on anything)
4th...
the Hawks offence is dead!! shooting 23% while the Nets enjoy a 12-2 start on 75% from the floor, as you can probable tell the Nets will pull away with this one even tho P.J Kirk and James Posey go on a scoring run it just isnt enough to stop the Nets.
Jason Kidd 13 point 12 assists 5 steals - Kerry Kittles 29 points - Kenyon Martin 16 points 10 rebounds 2 blocks.
James Posey 31 points 14/27fg - P.J Kirk 14 points 14 rebounds 6 blocks
Final score = 92-101 Nets

Next up Hawks first home game of the season vs Boston

{edit}
just tryed a few trade involving Miles and ive worked out a great deal (imo) just played Boston, first win of the season :D , Posey 39 points , Terry 19 points 8 assists , Alan Henderson 11 boards of the bench.
LaFrentz 29 points 13/18 fg 8 rebounds , McCarty 14 points 13 rebounds , Ricky Davis 14 of the bench.
the trade...
Stephen Jackson & D-Miles for Ricky Davis and Joe Jacobson ( second round pick of Boston , 7.1 246lbs pf rating 43. the deal works.
What are you views? take into account that Miles just doesnt fit into the offence iam trying to run. il be sorry to see Jackson leave but Ricky's a better player period.

Tue Feb 24, 2004 7:45 am

Ok made the trade for Ricky Davis giving me a line up of...

C-Przybilla(9.5ppg 7.8rpg)
PF-Kirk(8.5ppg 9.8rpg)
SF-Posey(31.8ppg 4.3rpg 2.3spg)
SG-Davis(12.0ppg)
PG-Terry(12.3ppg 5.3apg)

Davis's numbers will go up after a few more starts.

away game to the Sonics...
Davis's first, started off just like my first game no defence at all, Lewis and Allen scoring when they wanted to. i benched Rookie P.J Kirk for his poor defence and will start Henderson next game because henderson the last few games has been pulling down boards like nobodys business, Ricky Davis had a strong first game handling the ball most of the time finishing with 19 points and 5 assists while Posey had another great game this time putting up 29 points 10 rebounds 5 assists. Ray Allen put up 17 points 7 rebounds and 4 assists to match Poseys good numbers, Lewis also had 23 points and 6 rebounds for the Sonics.
Flip Murray came off the bench for 13 and Sonic's rookie center Ricardo Tam fininshed the Hawks off with 10 points 11 rebound on 4/5 shooting, all in the 4th quarter. Alan Henderson chipped in 11 rebounds in yet another strong performance for the Hawks.
Final score = 91-107 Sonics

next game at home vs the Heat.

Tue Feb 24, 2004 10:12 pm

Hawks 2-3

Ricky davis's home coming got of to a show start as the heat were on top form, Odom and Jones came out on fire in the first having 10 each going into the second while the Hawks had done very little. Jason Terry who only plays well at home had 8 points and 4 assists 1st quarter and Posey added 6 points on 3/6 shooting.
In the second the Heat took off where they left it with Odom and Jones but this time they got alittle help from Wade who had racked up a quite 12 points and 7 assists, Ricky davis got off the mark in the second with a half court steal which lead to an open court dunk that got the crowd into the game, Davis also added a couple of 3's as well. half time = 42-47 Heat.
Odom 16 points , Wade 12 points 7 assists , Jones 15 points.
Posey 14 points , Davis 10 points , Terry 10 points 6 assists
In the 3rd Ricky Davis & James Posey teamed up for 28 point ,12 and 14 respectively. end of 3rd 84-80 Hawks.
4th was all Heat till the last 2 minutes when 2 3's from Posey and rookie Cato (Cato only has a 32 rating for 3's!!) gave the Hawks a 2 point lead with 20 seconds left, Jones missed a 3 for the Heat then Butler fouled Posey who grabbed the rebound. Posey had 7 of his 8 rebounds in the 3rd.
Posey hit both freethrows to seal the win.
Posey 34 points 8 rebounds , Davis 24 points , Terry 16 points 9 assists
Odom 29 points , Jones 26 points , Wade 18 points 12 assists , Grant 16 rebounds.
Final score = 97-101 Hawks
Next game away to the Magic.

NEED HELP WITH A TRADE

ive played 5 games now and iam only getting my points from the outside and on drive, i really need a low post scorer.
the two players i have in mind are Mike Sweetney and Marcus Fizer.
tryed the trade for Sweetney and i can get him just for Joel Przybilla but that will leave me without a good center, the deal for Fizer is sending Henderson and Diaw for Fizer and Bulls second round pick Perry.
What do you guys think? what should i do?

Wed Feb 25, 2004 3:18 pm

I like the Fizer trade, go with that :D

Wed Feb 25, 2004 10:10 pm

I traded for Sweetney last night, worked out a deal with the Knicks sending Henderson and Diaw for Sweetney and Demarr Jonhson.
Reasons for doing this trade are simple Sweetneys contract is better than Fizer's + he's pushing 30 so Sweetney down the line has a better upside. Getting Jonhson was a bonus, and Travis Hanson has really picked up his game off the bench to so Diaw wont be missed.

Hawks vs Magic.

starting lineup of C-Joel , PF-Kirk , SF-Posey , SG-Davis , PG-Terry
Bringing Sweetney off the bench to work him in slowly and it worked, 'sweet' had 8 and 6 off the bench while Rookie P.J Kirk had his best game of the season with 14 and 13, Juwan Howard lead the Magic with 28 point while T-Mac had just 16. Player of the Game - James Posey 27 points 8 rebounds and 6 steals making him number 1 nba scorer, No.1 in steals No.10 in rebounds (8.4) + No.1 in the MVP race.
Final Score 97-89 Hawks.

Next game Clippers @ Hawks.

Thu Feb 26, 2004 10:28 am

Ricky Davis traded....AGAIN!!

in one of the maddess trades ive every made i sent Ricky Davis BACK to Boston FOR Stephen Jackson!!!

:?

After the magic game i found that with Davis and Posey on the same team Terry , Sweetney and P.J Kirk didnt even get a look in on offence so i thought about how much of a better fit Jackson was to the team and then just out of interest i tryed to trade him back which Boston jumped at...
Crazy trade i know but Jacksons defence is alot better than Davis's and now it's James's team again.

Thu Feb 26, 2004 11:31 pm

Hawks vs Clippers.

With Stephen Jackson back in the lineup the hawks were ready for the Clippers but Cory Maggette put up a season high 51 points hitting 7 3's.
P.J kirk went for a career high 18 points and 17 rebounds as the Hawks offence was just to strong for the clips who apart from Cory didnt have another Clipper with more than 12 points.
James Posey lead the Hawks with 26 points and 5 rebounds in one of the Hawks best home game of the season. player of the game went to Kirk but close second was Jason Terry with 20 points and 13 assists.
Final score = 89-101 Hawks.

Next up Memphis @ Hawks.

Fri Feb 27, 2004 6:26 am

Hawks vs Memphis

The game got out to a fast start with Jason Terry hitting all 3 of his 3 point attempts in the first 6 minutes while Shane Battier rallyed for 14 first quarter points. The Grizz went into the 2nd with a 28-21 lead.
Posey who only took 2 shots in the 1st had 6 assists to keep Atlanta close. Half time = 41-51
in the second half Pau Gasol let his low post game take over with 16 3rd quarter point and 6 rebounds. Jason Williams had 13 points and an amazing 17 assists has he continued to pass on the break for easy hoops.
The game looked over for the Hawks going into the last quarter trailing by 15 but James posey had the best 12 minutes of his life with 22 points 6 rebounds and 4 assists leaving him 1 rebound short of a triple double.
Posey finished with 40 points 9 rebounds 10 assists for player of the game honours.
P.J Kirk had 16 points and 16 rebounds, Jason Terry 16 points 6 assists.
For Memphis Gasol had 26 points and 9 rebounds , Battier 20 points , Jason Williams 13 points and 17 assists , Mike Miller 16 points off the bench.
Full Time = 105-110 Hawks.

Jazz@Hawks

playing the 1-6 jazz i decided to rest my main players and let rookies slug it out which worked fine till the second half when the jazz who scored only 36 first half points turned up the heat and hit 3 after 3 to erase an 18 point Hawk lead. i put James Posey back in to pull away again which the Hawks did and won, not much of a game to talk about.
Posey 20 points POG
Harpring 22 points.

next game Hawks@Blazers.

Mon Mar 01, 2004 9:00 am

After long thoughts ive decided to ditch the Hawks Dynasty.
Main reason been the fact that i really want to continue with my Knicks Dynasty which ive already done 46 games of so i think i wanna see it to the end :D
Secondly "Mafia" already has a kickass Hawks Dynasty which is great to read so il start posting my Knicks one instead.
thanks for anyone who posted in it (Y)

Fri Apr 16, 2004 9:23 am

Iam making a comeback to the Dynasty world with another Hawks season but this time iam starting in the 03-04 season with the present Hawks roster.
Iam looking for a challenge each time i do a Dynasty its with a good team or i make to many trades. The past times ive done Hawks seasons ive simmed to the following year and thats when all the rosters get messed up by teams not picking up freeagents and stuff like that.

il keep you posted how i get on.

It was the best game id played thru 3 quarters with it been played in a passing style with both Sura & Terry combining for 17 assists from the Hawks starting back court. With Terry been the main Gun in Atlanta the Rockets didnt give him much room to get his shot off finishing with 14 points to lead the 0-1 Hawks tho for Houston Ming was so fire played his man as the Hawks couldnt guard anything or anyone inside Yao had a game high 25 points , Francis had 10 points 6 rebounds and 12 assists in a off scoring night.

Final score = 96 -84 ROCKETS

Rockets- Yao ~ 25 points 13 rebounds

When your top scorer for the game is Joel Przybilla (16) you know either two things... Big Joel turned into Shaq or the Hawks offence really sucked that bad?? Sadly Joel isnt Shaq and the Hawks offence didnt show up. At the end of the first the Hawks trailed 22-10 and it took then till the last minute of the second to pull close going into the half down by 5. Melo showed his talent with 23 to lead all scorers. The game stayed even in the 3rd & 4th till the last 5 minutes when the Nuggets pulled away shooting 73% in the 4th.

HAWKS GM MP3 ANNOUNCES TRADE

mp3....

Its my pleasure to announce to you all that the Altanta Hawks have today landed an up and coming star in "MIKE SWEETNEY"
The deal was done early this morning sending much loved "STEPHEN JACKSON" to the New York Knicks.

Image FOR Image

"With bringing in Sweetney we can add a low post scorer who in years to come will be an allstar, Mike is a great rebounder for his size and gives the Hawks more options on offence, not taking anything away from Jackson who's skills we do not question but with a team loaded with guards and no post players something had to give"

Image Great upside, a low post player the Hawks so badly need

Image Jacksons's 12ppg and strong defence will be missed

Fri Apr 16, 2004 4:48 pm

Welcome back (again) mp3. :) Great to see the virtual Bob Sura playing as well as the real Sura did in the latter stage of the 2003/2004 season. Will Sweetney start at power forward with Crawford sliding over to play the three?

With the addiction of power forward Mike Sweetney the Hawks had another option on offence and its one that payed off. Jason Terry had his best game of the season to lead the Hawks past the Spurs with 25 points in an upset 94-88 victory at the SBC Center. Tim Duncan got into early foul trouble resulting in him only playing 21 minutes leaving the door wide open for the Hawks. In Mike Sweetneys debut the Hawks looked to post him, Mike didnt have a good shooting night from the field but did finish with 12 points 12 rebounds in 31 minutes of play. The Spurs got there strong play from Emanuel Ginobili with 23 points, Duncan finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

After a big win over the Spurs the Hawks were feeling great when they steped out at the Garden but it was the Knicks who had all the moves. Ex Hawk Mohammed rallyed off 12 first quarter points while Allan Houston chipped in 10. by the second quarter the Knicks were up by 20 and not looking back , Atlanta would make huge defensive stops with a season best 17 blocks including a career best 9 blocks by Joel Przybilla.
In the head to head battle with the two players traded Mike Sweetney and Stephen Jackson Sweetney had the upper hand with 14 points and 8 rebounds while Jackson had just 2 points in only 4 minutes.
Marburys scoring was held to 3 points but he did dish 15 assists out to the likes of Houston (21) T.Thomas (23) and Mohammed (17).

Tough break for Sweetney in his first start. I've often found that to be the case in NBA Live. One of your bench players will play superbly while a starter struggles. You make a change, and find that the opposite occurs in the next game. If a starter is going through a slump, I recommend bringing him off the bench for a couple of games. Maybe it's psychological thing, but they always seem to find their ryhthm again.

I was actually thinking of bringing Jason Terry off the bench for the next game, he's the best player out there but no one can shoot as bad as he is right now and ive tryed everything in training but he just seems to get worst!! so maybe a stint on the bench might help him. Thanks for advice mate :applaud:

Sat Apr 17, 2004 7:17 pm

You're welcome. :) It's similar to deciding to trade a player. Whenever I've decided to give a player one more game to prove himself before he's traded, he seems to have a big game. Perhaps it's just giving him a fair amount of minutes and an opportunity to have a good game (or in your situation, changing the starting five and creating different substitution patterns and lineups), but it often seems to work.

After Jason Terry's poor shooting i benched him for this game to see if he could give me a spark but sadly he was his usual self going 4 of 20 from the field and its not like i was taking bad shots either.. he missed 3 layups including 1 wide open after an inbounds steal!! but it was a good job i had Crawford and Mike Sweetney out there coz the TWolves were on fire having 7 players in double figures. K.G did the main damage with his inside and out game hitting his shots over the smaller Sweetney, the Hawks were never in this game as the TWolves are unstopable when they play the way they did also shooting 52%fg for the game. Chris Crawford is putting his stamp on the game as the starting SF at 6-8 with speed and 3 point skills he makes a match up problem for any team, without running a play for him he racked up 18 points off just been in the right place when the shoot clock was running down. Mike Sweetney really helped in the post to get the Hawks back into the game also having a season high 18 points and 12 rebounds.
