Right? That's actually happened several times in my Live 06 dynasties. This game really seems to overvalue him as a point-forward, especially considering the limited role Live 06 seems to have for bigs on the wing.

Player Comparison
Image

Jaric is an upgrade across the board in terms of scoring ability. He's not necessarily a dead-eye sniper, but his shot is good enough to be a reliable offensive option. His steal, pass, and dribble ratings are very good, making him a viable candidate to run the offense at times. Hayes is slightly faster and a better leaper/rebounder, but reordering my roster will address that.

Roster Changes
Image

I've changed Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins primary positions to SF and SG respectively. Butler can't shoot very well in this game, so I like him better as an athletic/slashing/driving SF. Atkins fits the backup SG role as a 3PT specialist.

Other Trade Attempts
Jaric was actually one of the last options I considered. I liked Morris Peterson, but Toronto has a thin backcourt and thus wanted too much for him. He's also not very athletic. Same goes for Martell Webster out of Portland. Rookie Rashard McCants from the Minnesota bench was a cheap option with a good shot, but he would need some developing before stepping into a starting role. I nearly pulled the trigger on Jared Jeffries and Chucky Atkins for Mike Miller, but he was more expensive, and it would've left me without a (good) backup SG. I also had to resist some unrealistic trades. For example, New Orleans (JR Smith), Chicago (Ben Gordon), and Milwaukee (Michael Redd) were all willing to trade for Caron Butler. I'm sure that was based solely on ratings as he isn't producing nearly as well as those players. Plus, I didn't really need another ball-dominant guard to contend with Gilbert Arenas. JR Smith and Ben Gordon are in my sights for the future, though.

Definitely giving up some athleticism, but I'd say it's worth it for the better shooting. Jaric should be better stripping the ball and playing the passing lanes, too.

Gilbert Arenas records triple-double in win @Memphis
By WashingtonWizards.com staff / January 6th, 2005

Image

@Memphis (4-8) | W 95-85

Washington fans were no doubt looking forward to Marko Jaric's debut as a Wizard tonight, but it was Gilbert Arenas who would steal the show.

Arenas opened the game strong, scoring the first 7 points for the Wizards. Jaric scored his first points as a Wizard on a layup in transition a couple minutes into the game. Later in the quarter, he scored back-to-back And-1s at the rim. With Arenas and Jaric pushing the pace and Jamison looking his usual self, the Wizards rolled to a 20-point lead in Q2, although Memphis went on a late run to close the gap to 10 at the half. By halftime, Arenas had tallied 20 points, 4 assists, and 6 steals - a sign of things to come.

Arenas opened Q3 with back-to-back steals + layups. He then turned his focus to setting up teammates. Jaric couldn't get going from 3, but Butler and Jamison made up for it at the rim. Memphis made a few runs to keep the score respectable, but the game was never really in doubt for the Wizards. Antonio Daniels closed out the game with 6 straight FTs.

Agent Zero recorded the first triple-double of the '05-06 season with 30 points, 11 assists, and 10 steals. He only missed 2 of his 13 shots, both beyond the arc. Jamison put up 22 on 10-12 shooting and 8 rebounds. In his Wizards debut, Jaric scored 13 despite poor shooting beyond the arc (1-6), a problem that continues to plague the Wizards as they went 2-13 as a team. For Memphis, Pau Gasol posted a double-double with 20 points/12 rebounds, and Mike Miller added 14 points.

Player of the Game: Gilbert Arenas
Box Score

Off the Court
I'm proud of myself. A triple-double is tough on 8-minute quarters. Arenas is a great on-ball defender. I only used 1 Superstar steal the entire game and 0 Superstar moves on offense.

Still can't shoot worth a lick. I think it's just my release timing. I'm determined to figure it out without adjusting the slider (40).

Looking good man. (Y) I finally caved in and bought NBA Live 10 off eBay and am hoping to do a classic story with it; I have a 2K18 Cavs one, but there's an allure to these older games: almost a less is more thing. And then 2K19 would drop and I would be fumbling with how to carry it over.

Awesome! I didn't spend a ton of time with Live 10 since I'm a PC gamer and 2K11 quickly stole me away. I do remember enjoying it, though, and it's recent enough to be quite playable.

Looking forward to your story.

Washington escapes with win in Orlando
By NBA.com staff / January 11th, 2006

Image

@Orlando (10-4) | W 81-75

With Washington's dreadful 3PT shooting this year, they tend to rely on buckets in the paint to keep the offense afloat. That was certainly a challenge tonight with Dwight Howard clogging up the lane. The Wizards started with their typical game-plan of dumping it down low, but the Magic quickly turned Q1 into a block party. Despite being forced out of the paint and shooting 0-10 from 3, the Wizards were able to maintain a 41-32 lead at the half as Haywood and Jamison fought for rebounds.

Orlando turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, and Jameer Nelson and Dwight Howard helped give them their first lead of the game (46-45) with 4:30 left in Q3. The rest of the game was a battle. With 1 minute remaining, Caron Butler drained a jumper before Dwight Howard and Antawn Jamison exchanged layups. Nelson missed a 3 with 20 seconds remaining, and Jamison made a FT to put the Wizards up 3. Howard missed a dunk on the ensuing possession, and Arenas closed out the game with 3 straight FTs.

Superstar Antawn Jamison posted yet another double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Arenas only scored 7 points but had 11 assists. Brendan Haywood impressed with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Dwight Howard led the Magic with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Jameer Nelson followed with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists while also turning the ball over 12 times.

Player of the Game: Antawn Jamison
Box Score

Off the Court
1-19 from 3. Sheesh. I know I'm forcing the issue at that point, especially with Jaric because I want the trade to work. I'm so glad I have layup-machine Antawn Jamison to bail me out of games like this. Haywood was also impressive. I need to give him more looks.

McGrady, Rockets too much in Wizards' first OT game of the season
By WashingtonWizards.com staff / January 24th, 2006

Image

vs. Houston (8-7) | L 109-106

Don't let Houston's record fool you. The duo of MVP candidates McGrady and Yao alone demand an entire team's attention, and the Wizards would pay for it with costly foul trouble down the stretch.

Washington found themselves in unfamiliar territory to begin the game as Houston jumped out to a 12-2 lead on the back of Tracy McGrady. The Wizards called timeout, regrouped, and eventually stormed back to tie the game. The Rockets slowed down in Q2 with Yao and McGrady on the bench, and the Wizards capitalized to carry a 42-36 lead into the half. The comeback came with a sacrifice, however, as Arenas racked up 4 PFs in the first half trying to help contain McGrady, prompting Wizards fans to boo Coach Eddie Jordan for leaving him in the game.

Washington kept the pace to begin Q3, jumping out to a 10-point lead. Antawn Jamison had been dominant in the first half with 20 points, and he continued his All-Star-level play in the second half. Caron Butler also held his own against T-Mac with several dunks that kept the Wizards fans involved. T-Mac took over early in Q4 to tie up the game.

Watch the final minute of regulation:
phpBB [video]

Washington came out strong in OT but suffered a major blow when Arenas fouled out on a 3PT shot with 3 minutes remaining. His backup, Antonio Daniels, fouled out shortly after.

Watch the final minute of OT:
phpBB [video]

Antawn Jamison's 39 points and 12 rebounds weren't enough to give Washington the W. Brendan Haywood nearly posted a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Caron Butler chipped in 14. T-Mac put up 27 for Houston, and Yao contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Player of the Game: Tracy McGrady

Tough L. (N) And a valiant effort at the end. That tip-in was bizarre; I think Yao gave Jamison some help.

That Rockets team is tough; God hated them with the injuries. I'm gonna let you in on a little hint... that's who I plan on doing my Live 10 story with.

The videos were a really nice touch; are you using mods? That shit looks pretty good for a decade+.

I actually just finished a Houston dynasty before I started this one. Simmed the first season and won the championship the next. T-Mac is my favorite player of all-time, and I loved his Rockets teams, so I was looking forward to this one. Turned out to be a good game.

The only mod I'm using is JaoSming's lighting mod. The game's graphics hold up fairly well. I'm continually surprised by how good some of the faces are.

Almost an opportunity to send it into double overtime at the end there with the deflection. A valiant effort nevertheless. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who struggled a bit shooting threes back in the day. I always found the dice roll on threes quite unforgiving.

Yeah, I recently read an article you wrote about struggling with 3s in basketball games. I'm definitely in that club. I'm last in the league at 22%. Murat mentioned in this thread that my release is late which seems accurate. I'm going to practice a bit and try to train my muscle memory.

The timing was unforgiving in the old games. Today's shot feedback and shot meters have allowed for better percentages, though there's also been a lack of balance in online play. As I just mentioned in that thread, a trick that I used a lot was to pump fake a couple of times to set my player's feet, even when wide open. Again, I'm not sure if it's just a placebo effect or not, but it did seem to help a little bit.

Ray Allen lifts Supersonics past Wizards
By WashingtonWizards.com staff / January 26th, 2006

Image

@Seattle (11-5) | L 80-83

In a game of runs, Washington struck first by jumping out to an 11-2 lead early on. Seattle stormed back to take a 20-17 lead at the end of Q1. The Supersonics opened up Q2 with a run to gain a 10-point lead which the Wizards shortened to 6 (39-33) at the half. Washington has been a solid rebounding team this season but struggled to contain Seattle on the boards. Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis demand a lot of attention on the perimeter which often helped lure the Washington bigs out of the paint.

Seattle maintained a steady lead throughout Q3 and Q4, but Washington didn't go away without a fight. After a quiet first half, Gilbert Arenas led a small comeback to bring the Wizards within 1 late in Q4. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Wizards would get as Allen and the Sonics closed out the game at the FT line.

Ray Allen led the Sonics with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Luke Ridnour scored 12 (7-10 FT) and, oddly, had 0 assists. Rashard Lewis scored 15. Antawn Jamison continues to be a bright spot for the Wizards with 33 points and 12 rebounds. Brendan Haywood added 15. Gilbert Arenas had a quiet night with 11 points, 6 assists, and 6 steals.

Player of the Game: Ray Allen
Box Score
Next Game: Feb 15 vs. Denver

lol, the classic dice roll mechanic; I was just playing Live 10, shooting around in the Hangar and imaging if there was any sort of timing or if it was all luck...

That Seattle team was a little bit before my time, but they sure look lethal: two of the wettest guys in Lewis & Allen, and even Vladé Radmanovic.

They were one of the highest-scoring teams in the NBA. That reminds me... Allen is marked as an Outside Scorer in this game. I need to edit him to be a 3PT specialist.

Ray Allen was an outside scorer at his peak time. In later years he transformed himself to a spot-up shooter, as he aged. That was one of the things I like about Allen. Also something that some of the players fail to do due to their egos.
