MEMPHIS-The Memphis Grizzlies are ready to open up their 2003-2004 campaign with a new spirit. The Grizzlies have young talent that have developed into very good quality players. In the 2003 NBA Draft, the Grizzlies acquired Troy Bell out of Boston College and Dahntay Jones from Duke. These two rookies will learn from team leaders and will try to earn playing time this year. The Grizzlies also acquired James Posey in the off-season. James Posey is a defensive specialist that can score at times. Other moves the Grizzlies have made is trading Brevin Knight, Cezary Trybanski and Robert Archibald to the Phoenix Suns for Jake Tsakalidis and Bo Outlaw. This trade was a favorite for the Grizz because Jake gives them the big man in the middle that they need and Bo Outlaw tough play will help the Grizzlies on the defensive end. The season will begin on next Wednesday and there will be a press conference held for Coach Hubie Brown later on today.

Press Conference with Hubie Brown

Postby -BHZMAFIA- on Sun Nov 23, 2003 7:05 am

Stuart Scott: Hello everybody, I;m Stuart Scott and I'm here with Hubie Brown, coach of the Memphis Grizzlies. How you doing Hubie?

Hubie: I'm great Stuart.

Stuart: My first question is, how well has your team improved over the summer?

Hubie: Well my first impression is that we have a good backcourt consisting of Jason WIlliams, James Posey, Earl Watson, Wesley Person, Dahntay Jones and Troy Bell. With more scoring in the backcourt also with Mike Miller, Pau Gasol, Lorenzen Wright and Stromile Swift. We have alot of depth on this team and I will use all of it by using the 10 man rotation every single game. Our team has defense, offense and rebounding. We are a full package and we are planning on making it to the playoffs this year.

Stuart: How has Jerry West and yourself inspired JWill to being one of the best PG's in the league?

Hubie: First of all, JWill was always one of my favorie PG's in the league. I mean he can do just about everything on the court. Jerry West has taught him alot of things about how to control himself. He will still give you the fancy passes and everything every once in awhile, but that's what makes JWill. He is a good listener and he will do all he can to help this team get to a playoff berth.

Stuart: Can you give me your thoughts on finally having a big man presence on the inside this year?

Hubie: Well Jake isn't what you call the best center in the game. His main priority is to rebound and block shots in the middle. If he does that on a consistent basis then he will be a solid aspect to our team. He will really help us out against western teams big men.

Stuart: Last question. Will Pau Gasol have a big season?

Hubie: Yes, Pau will be our number 1 option on offense this year. Mike Miller will be our 2nd option. Pau is the type of player that will start getting double teamed and triple teamed this year. Which will lead to open outside shots. He can put the ball on the floor and shoot jumpers. He will be a big part of our success this year.

Stuart: Thank you Hubie for giving us the time today.

Hubie: Thank you. (Hubie leaves)

Stuart: You can catch the Grizzlies next Wednesday with their season opener against the Boston Celtcis in Memphis.

Could Stromile Be on the Move?

Image

MEMPHIS-Many trade rumors have been swarming the Memphis area about Stromile getting traded, Are these rumors true? We talked to Jerry West, the Grizzlies GM and President of Basketball Operations and here is what he had to say: "We are looking at some offers where we are getting a SG that can score and we've been looking for Stro to be productive over his years here, but we haven't seen too much of an improvement."

Stromile Swift is in his 3rd year and his contract opts out after this season. The Grizzlies may give him a chance this year, but they also may trade him. Some people say Stromile would go to Portland, LA Clippers or Miami.

Stromile has been working hard in training camp and he really doesn't want to go anywhere. "I'm hearing the trade rumors going around, but I'm trying to work very hard everyday and earn a spot on this team, Stromile said.

Could Stromile be leaving Memphis? We will see coming in two days how well he perform against Boston in the Grizzlies season opener.
