PISTONS’ BIG 1ST QUARTER STUMPS RAVENS, STILL DOWN IN SERIES 3-2

Image

Montreal Ravens @ Detroit Pistons 85-102

May 10, Detrot – With Detroit, the 1st seed in the Eastern Conference, playing the 4th seed, Montreal, you would’ve thought they’d have the series advantage by now but recent struggles by key players from the Pistons squad left them down in the brink of elimination. All series long, the Pistons relied on their bigs’ presence down low with Ratliff and Dele doing all the work and we saw the Ravens respond to their type of play by employing more perimeter plays which led to three-pointers from Bryant, Hardaway, Curry, Parker, etc.

But with them facing elimination this early in the playoffs, the Pistons decided to try something new. Detroit attempted 34 three-pointers in the entire game and knocked down 24 of those. The game was clearly over after they closed out the 1st quarter with 43 points, a team and league-high in points in a single quarter while managing the Ravens to only 19 points, a team-low in the playoffs.

Derek Fisher of the Detroit Pistons single-handedly outplayed Bryant and Hardaway with his shooting from beyond the arc. He ended with 32 points, a career-high, while shooting 8-12 from the three-point line, also a career-high.

“This is good. We’re on a roll. If we just keep up this momentum, we can still upset them.” Said Fisher.

The Ravens relied on Bryant in offense but was shut down by Aaron McKie and was denied of the ball in the post. Despite the defense that the Pistons deployed on Bryant, he still managed to score 33 points but shot 41%.
“Oh, we’re not worried at all. No. Obviously we just have to regroup and watch the tape so we can see where we messed up. No worries on our end.” Assured Bryant with his team still leading 3-2 in the series.

Player of the Game: Derek Fisher (32 pts, 2 rebs, 7 asts, 8-12 3PT)

Ravens:
K. Bryant (33 pts, 3 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls, 1 blk)
K. Garnett (18 pts, 13 rebs)
T. Hardaway (11 pts, 2 rebs, 6 asts, 2 stls)

Pistons:
G. Hill (28 pts, 7 rebs, 2asts)
A. McKie (11 pts, 2 rebs, 6 asts)
B. Dele (8 pts, 10 rebs)

Fisher and Wallace out in Game 6

Image

AP – It seems like both Montreal and Detroit will miss two key players in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semi-finals. Derek Fisher and Ben Wallace is out after spraining their ankles in Game 5.

Fisher is averaging 18.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.6 spg, and was a key player in the Piston’s push from almost being eliminated in Game 5. Wallace is averaging 6.0 ppg and 10.8 rpg and is currently 5th in the league in rebounds per game. Montreal will surely miss his presence in the post in Game 6.

PISTONS TRIUMPH IN GAME 7 THRILLER

Image

Montreal Ravens @ Detroit Pistons 123-124

Detroit – With the whole future of the Pistons in his hands, Derek Fisher let go of a turnaround three-pointer to seal the deal in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Pistons won, 124-123, and will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals to face off the Chicago Bulls.

"That's definitely the biggest shot of my life," Fisher said, adding with a smile: "So far." Fisher had 29 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals tonight and was 4-4 from the three-point line.

"He made a hell of a shot," Pistons forward Grant Hill said of Fisher’s game winner. Hill led the Pistons with 32 points and 7 assists. He averaged 27.8 points during the series.

The Montreal Ravens’ duo was nowhere to be found in the post conference.

Kobe Bryant led the Ravens on Friday night with a career-high and franchise-high 54 points while shooting 10 of 15 beyond the arc. Bryant also went on an insane one-man 15-0 run after hitting 5 consecutive three-pointers to tie the game and force the first overtime. He also had 6 rebounds and 14 assists as Montreal failed to close out the 1st seed Pistons.

Aside from Bryant, Kevin Garnett also chipped in with 30 points on the night and recorded 18 rebounds.

“Listen…. these guys….. they did their best… they wanted to win so badly tonight but they just couldn’t. They felt like their team should show up more.” Said veteran guard Tim Hardaway.

Excluding Hardaway, who had 23 points and 14 assists, no one in the Ravens team scored more than 10 points. The next highest scorer in the Ravens was Anthony Parker who had 9 points while shooting 7-10 free throw attempts.

Player of the Game: Derek Fisher (29 pts, 1 reb, 7 asts, 3 stls)

Ravens:
K. Bryant (54 pts, 6 rebs, 14 asts)
K. Garnett (30 pts, 18 rebs, 4 asts, 2 blks)
T. Hardaway (23 pts, 14 asts)

Pistons:
G. Hill (32 pts, 2 rebs, 7 asts)
T. Hudson (16 pts, 3 rebs, 1 stl)
B. Dele (14 pts, 7 rebs, 1 blk)

While I was editing the first post of this thread, I just noticed that the Bulls and the Jazz have been going head to head in the Finals for 3 straight years now and it always ends in Game 6. Bulls got the trophy in the first two games and the Jazz finally got their revenge this year. Nice to see, actually.

Wow, the Pistons shot the lights out in game 5. Fisher was in full Curry mode.

That's a hell of a way to lose a series :?

I'm sure you'll go further next season though with Kobe and KG entering their primes (Y)

Lamrock, true tbh. I'd want to face MJ when we're actually ready and able to win against tougher opponents.
Phil89, I've played this 2k franchise for a long ass time now. When I saw Bison Dele get that fucking offensive rebound and passed it to Fisher, I knew he was going to make it. Typical cheese

Ravens decline Billups’ Team Option, accept Bryant and Wallace’s

After openly addressing the media about his plan in leaving the Montreal Ravens “no matter what”, the team finally let him go and decided not to take up his option.
Billups only played for a total of 73 games for the Ravens in his 3 seasons with the club. He was always injured on the sidelines but was a force to be reckoned with when healthy. He is expected to sign with the Knicks as they were the frontrunners to sign Billups.
Meanwhile, the Ravens picked up both Bryant and Wallace’s team options worth $5.45M and $4.52M, respectively.

Ravens re-sign Willie Burton and Yinka Dare

The Ravens seem to be planning on retaining their two least used players in the team for another 2 years. Burton and Dare both signed a 2-year deal worth $2.10M and has a team option in its second year.
Both Burton and Dare are expected to be bench warmers again for the Ravens this season.

Stojakovic and Brown – Going to test Free Agency

Peja Stojakovic and Randy Brown both announced today that they will not be re-signing with the Ravens but instead will test Free Agency and see how much they are worth in the open market.

Jason Williams signs two-year deal with Montreal

In a press conference held by the Montreal Ravens this morning, they announced the signing of 25 year old guard Jason Williams. Williams, who last played for Milwaukee last season, averaged 7.1 ppg and 3.2 apg in 20 minutes of playing time.

Aside from Williams, they also welcomed newly-signed center Todd Fuller. Fuller last played for the Jazz in the ’97 season.

1999 NBA DRAFT

Montreal picks Hedo Turkoglu with 9th pick

With the 9th pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, the Montreal Ravens picked the 22 year old Turkoglu out of Turkey.

Turkoglu was one of the brightest prospect coming in the draft after playing 1 pro season in Turkey. He averaged 21.9 ppg in the league. It’s believed that the Ravens acquired him to soften the blow of releasing Billups in free agency. He is also expected to start in the small forward spot, formerly owned by Corliss Williamson.

Knicks and Ravens finalize trade deal

After not panning out the way Montreal wanted to, the team announced today that a trade between them and the Knicks has been finalized. The deal will send Corliss Williamson, the Most Improved Player 2 seasons ago, to the New York Knicks in exchange for the league-leader in 3PT%, Hubert Davis.

"He’s [Williamson] going to earn a lot of minutes for us, he gives us versatility, experience, physical and mental toughness and the ability to score," said Jim O'Brien, head coach of the Knicks, on a conference call yesterday.

Ravens get: Hubert Davis (65)
Knicks get: Corliss Williamson (69)

Valor, I'd give anything to be a little bit older just to see the world's reaction of Jordan going to the Wizards.
Phil89, probably
Lamrock, I literally only know 6 of them. Kenyon Martin, Stromile Swift, Joel Pryzbilla, Mike MIller, Michael Redd, and Hedo Turkoglu. I wanted to get Michael Redd but I felt like that would make us way too good that fast, there's no challenge. Oyedeji was the 42nd pick in the actual draft lmao http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... eol01.html

So I just came back from china.... My harddrive, where I stored everything, got "lost" somehow including my mini-bag which means that every fucking game update that I had all went missing. I decided that I'd just post the in-game pictures the way everyone would like they simmed the whole season. Oh well. Fuck china.
