Two of the top 10 MVP candidates matching up against each other.
The opening month in the NBA has been extremely interesting for the fans, the players and anyone who's affiliated with the league anyhow. There are teams that have surprised people with their success, teams that have surprised people with their failure. Some players have fallen down the cliff, others have made enormous leaps from last year to join the top players of the league.
The team that's currently looking like the best in the NBA, is the Miami Heat with it's all-time great big three including Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and LeBron James. The Heat currently have a record of 16 wins and 2 losses, having lost to only Orlando by 4 points and Chicago by 3 points (game-winner). Before losing to Orlando, Miami remained undefeated for 9 games. In the season standings list so far, Miami is closely followed by teams such as the Lakers, Nuggets, Spurs, surprisingly the Suns and Wizards. The other three teams with ten or more wins so far are the Dallas Mavericks, Portland TrailBlazers and Houston Rockets. The teams at the bottom of the league include the Philadelphia 76ers, Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Minnesota Timberwolves, Boston Celtics and so on. Some may be surprised to see teams such as the Celtics at the bottom, but get used to seeing the team at the lower part as majority of the teams performers have left. Although much was expected from the new-look Pacers team with Rondo and Granger, but they're still not even medicore as the only team below them in the ranking is Philadelphia.
There are many players right now that are putting up the best stats of their careers, many that are not performing as well as they could, but still are arguable candidates for the MVP title. Here's our list for the top ten NBA MVP candidates so far.1.
Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs, 12-4)
21.3 ppg, 13.3 rpg, 2.9 apg, 2.56 bpg, 1.06 spg / 51% FG, 50% FT
People seem to be worrying about the age of Duncan every other offseason. So far this season, he has proven that there is no need to as he has put up stellar stats, provides great leadership and his presence on the defensive end is definitely huge. The Spurs are playing extremely well so far this season and some have the guts to say that they are still just coasting and will be twice as good come the playoffs.
2.Chris Bosh (Miami Heat, 16-2)
26.2 ppg, 10.8 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.56 bpg, 1.56 spg / 55% FG, 29% 3PT, 68% FT
When the big three was formed for Miami, nobody expected for Bosh to be the top scorer and the one to get most shots on the offense. The Miami offense is perfectly balanced as LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are distributing more, although the two are still scoring around 20 points a game. Bosh has done a terrific job as the main scoring option on the Heat, he's been good on the boards, gets a few assists here and there and seems to be better than ever defensively.
3.Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets, 13-4)
23.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.18 bpg, 1.41 spg / 56% FG, 38% 3PT, 71% FT
It seems like Melo has finally put all the thoughts about playing in a big market city such as NY or Chicago aside and is fully focused on winning. So far, he's done a stellar job leading the Nuggets to a 13-4 record, tied for the second place in the league with Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Melo has gotten a lot of credits for his defense this season, which is unusual as he has usually been blamed about the lack of defensive effort and all. The Nuggets fans have to be pleased with how Carmelo Anthony has been playing so far, if this keeps up, the Nuggets should be able to go deep in the playoffs.
4.Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat, 16-2)
21.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 5.2 apg, 0.72 bpg, 2.06 spg / 54% FG, 40% 3PT, 74% FT
So far, Dwyane Wade has been compareable to teammate Bosh, even on the offensive end, as he's one of the few that is atleast close to averaging over 20 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds, as Wade's only half a rebound shy of it. If someone has to take a game winning shot for Miami, the man to do so is Dwyane Wade, which he already proved once as he drilled a turnaround jumper from the top of the key, at the buzzer, to beat the Grizzlies 101 to 100.
5.Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers, 13-4)
20.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 5.2 apg, 0.35 bpg, 1.88 spg / 48% FG, 39% 3PT, 76% FT
Although Kobe's stats don't show it too well, he's been credit for starting to change his game even more to rely on athleticism less than before. It seems that Kobe has put in a lot of work in the offseason to improve his already top-class post game, which is what he uses a lot in game, similar to what Michael Jordan did late in his career. Kobe is the clear leader of the 13-4 Lakers and so far this season, it's no question that he has been a better overall player than Pau Gasol. Although Kobe is scoring a lot less this season than he has in the entire last decade, he is scoring more efficiently and has also done a stellar job distributing the ball.
6.Zach Randolph (Memphis Grizzlies, 5-7)
29.2 ppg, 12.3 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.25 bpg, 1.08 spg / 55% FG, 58% FT
7.Yao Ming (Houston Rockets, 10-7)
24.1 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.18 bpg, 0.88 spg / 56% FG, 77% FT
8.Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets, 7-9)
21.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 6.7 apg, 0.44 bpg, 2.56 spg / 50% FG, 47% 3PT, 70% FT
9.Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls, 9-6)
21.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 7.2 apg, 0.33 bpg, 1.47 spg / 49% FG, 26% 3PT, 76% FT
10.Devin Harris (New Jersey Nets, 8-10)
22.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.6 apg, 0.44 bpg, 2.50 spg / 43% FG, 34% 3PT, 78% FT
Other notable: Amar'e Stoudamire, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Allen Iverson, Deron Williams,
Gilbert Arenas, Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Brandon Roy, Carlos Boozer, Ray Allen.
The rookie class this year is definitely a good one, especially with Blake Griffin included in the group. We've put together what we feel is the best top 5 rookie list so far, the list accounts many things such as minutes played, defense and so on, not just points scored and rebounds taken.1. Lance Burrows (Milwaukee Bucks)
17.4 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 2.3 apg, 0.81 bpg, 1.63 spg
2. Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers)16.4 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.29 bpg, 0.93 spg
3. Aleksy Dumitru (Detroit Pistons)16.5 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 0.5 apg, 1.20 bpg, 0.75 spg
4. David Rutherford (New Orleans Hornets)12.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 5.0 apg, 0.38 bpg, 1.06 spg
5. Ricky Rubio (Minnesota Timberwolves)10.8 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 5.2 apg, 0.08 bpg, 1.67 spg
Other notables: Manfred Delgado (CHA), Hubert Lefevre (CHI), Dale Koch (UTA), Steven Ortiz (CLE), Ivan Medina (LAC)
Here's a big list of league leaders of every positive (in most cases) statistic. Some of the stats posted by players this month are higher than they are usual, some of them are completely average, and some are even lower than they are usually, which could be blamed to a slow start of the season, perhaps. Here are the leaders of points, assists and what not.PPG - Zach Randolph: 29.2 per game
Bulls leader - Derrick Rose: 21.6 per game
RPG - Tim Duncan: 13.3 per game
Bulls leader - Joakim Noah: 10,8 per game

Bulls leader - Derrick Rose: 33,9
There's been a lot of surprising rumours, trades, games from different players of the league. The only trades so far during this regular season were the two trades made by the Chicago Bulls along with the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks, in which Andre Iguodala, Jeff Teague, Danilo Gallinari and Ronny Turiaf winded up in the Windy City - Chicago, while Luol Deng, C.J. Watson and Taj Gibson went to Atlanta, Ronnie Brewer and Bulls' rookie big man, Andy Hicks, to the New York Knicks.
Late in the month, the Golden State Warriors officialy said that their sophmore point guard, Stephen Curry, is on the trading block and they're looking for the best possible trade partners and obviously a best possible deal from which they can get a defensive minded big man, preferably. The Sacramento Kings also put one of their guards on the block, in Willie Green. Green did not get a chance to play in Sacramento, hence the Kings should not be expecting too many offers for the 6'3" shooting guard. As Allen Iverson is handling the point guard duties for the Philadelphia 76ers and doing so unexpectedly well (over 20 points and 5 assists per game), the Sixers also said that they are waiting for trade offers for either Louis Williams or Jrue Holidays, the two talented point guards that are sitting a lot of time on the bench as the Sixers are starting Jodie Meeks at the 2 guard spot.
Players such as Gilbert Arenas and Zach Randolph have impressed the NBA fans a lot. Arenas and Randolph are at the top of the scorers list so far, and although Randolphs team has a poor winning record, Arenas has definitely carried his team to a solid start to the season as they're top 10 in the league. There are many more statistical surprises, for example, Antawn Jamison, Nenad Krstic and Rashard Lewis all averaging just over 20 points, each of them leading their teams. The biggest surprising team leader in points of the three is obviously Nenad Krstic of the Oklahoma City Thunder, but Kevin Durant has an excuse as the superstar forward has been bugged with a few little injuries to start the season. Durant still averages 19.8 points per competition and his other all-around stats stand out extremely well, too.
About minutes per game, Grizzlies' Marc Gasol and MVP candidate Zach Randolph combine for approximately 87 minutes per game, as both of them average just over 43 minutes. Amir Johnson, Chris Bosh and Chris Wilcox are the other three to average 43 or more minutes a game, with Johnson leading the league in minutes per game, despite lack of production in the minutes he plays. The only stat that stands out from Chris Wilcox' table is turnovers, in which he leads the league by a huge gap between him and the next one, who's James Harden who has a total of 59 turnovers, 11 less than Wilcox.
In conclusion, the month has definitely been exciting so far, and with players like Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Brandon Roy, Deron Williams and more just warming up, the entire year is definitely going to be a lot of fun, joy and tears to some. Stay tuned, because it's a season you'll remember for a long, long time!

Iguodala and Boozer lift the Bulls to a win over the Nets.
D-Rose pulling his new signature move, a reverse layup.
December 5th, 2010 (CHICAGO) - What promised to be a high scoring game after the first quarter with the Bulls down by 6, 33 to 27, cooled down right after the first quarter as the Nets were outscored by 25 points in the rest of the game. The Bulls once again shined as a team as five players scored in double-digits and as a league-leading team in assists, the Bulls had 27 assists as a team. They also outrebounded the Nets by 6, had 11 steals compared to the Nets 4 and 6 blocks compared to the Nets 2.
Carlos Boozer was the key guy offensively and on the boards as he chipped in with 25 points and 18 rebounds on 11-18 shooting. Andre Iguodala scored a game high 26 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and also had 3 steals. The third year guard, Derrick Rose, also shined as he filled the statline perfectly with 18 points, a career high 15 assists, 5 steals and also 4 rebounds. Korver and Lefevre both had 13 points. Korver made the most threes in the game with 3 of them. Joakim Noah was troubled with fouls all game long hence played in limited minutes. He finished with only 5 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 19 minutes of action.
James Posey led the Nets with 21 points and 4 rebounds, shooting 9-18 from the field. Murphy followed him with 18 points and 6 boards. Devin Harris and Terrence Williams both dropped 13 points. Harris was just shy of a triple-double with 8 rebounds and 8 assists to go with the 13 points of his, he did have 7 turnovers, though. Anthony Morrow was the most efficient from New Jersey with 14 points in only 7 minutes. He hit all of his 5 shots, including a three pointer.
"We played really well from second quarter and on," said the fresh Bull, Andre Iguodala courtside after the game. "We worked hard on the defensive end and it led to some easy points on offense.
