In a shock move earlier today, Knicks' GM Isiah Thomas announced his resignation from his position as the team's General Manager. In what might be seen as an even more shocking move, the Knicks replaced Thomas with the relatively unknown Jimmy "J.D!" Dexter, who has turned around many minor league franchises into winning situations. Where the Knicks sourced this guy is anyone's guess, but he is sure to get a traditional Knicks' welcome, a grilling by the media who will try to eat this guy up. Where does this leave Larry Brown, the Knicks' new esteemed coach? Well, that is anyone's guess.
The first order of business that Knicks' owner James Dolan assigned to the team's new GM was to hire some staff to support Brown's cause.

Dolan wasn't too charitable as he didn't give Mr. Dexter much money to work with
THE KNICKS' COACHING STAFF
ASSISTANT COACHES
With only $1.87 million to work with, Dexter got right to work as he went out and after assistant coach Vin Lenard. Lenard wanted a 3 year deal at about $785,000 per year. Dexter came out with a 2 year, $730,000 offer.

Vin Lenard readily accepted the offer as he joins legendary coach Larry Brown on the sidelines.

Vin Lenard is a Big Man specialist and Dexter wishes to develop some of his young big men, such as Michael Sweetney and rookies Channing Frye and David Lee. Whilst he's never had much experience with athleticism training, fortunately the Knicks are already pretty athletic and need to improve other aspects of their games.
TRAINERS
With an assistant coach in the fold, Dexter moved his focus onto finding a solid trainer to help the always hobbled Knickerbockers. Realising that the Knicks always seem to suffer leg injuries (see: Allan Houston and Penny Hardaway), Dexter wanted to have a specialist who could hopefully help to prevent such further injuries. Unfortunately there were not too many quality trainers available who specialise in leg injuries, so Dexter turned his focus to the best available candidate in their price range, which turned out to be Dorgan Cowell.

Cowell wanted a 1 year deal at $365,000. Dexter dropped that to 1 year at $333,000 and they quickly struck a deal.

SCOUTS
The final order of business for J.D! was to sign a quality scout. Dexter is still not a believer on the international player and he really wanted an experienced scout who specialised in scouting the college game. With not enough money to acquire two good scouts, Dexter concentrated on getting one quality scout and immediately cornered Ernie Fielding, who has been around the block more times than one can remember.

Fielding wanted a 2 year deal at a hefty $769,000 per year. Dexter met his request fairly as he relented and gave him a 2 year deal at $745,000 per year.

With that signing, Dexter is out of money and Vin Lenard, Dorgan Cowell and Ernie Fielding join the Knicks' coaching staff.
