Ballers survive Hornets late rally
Air Yue with the dunk
December 03, 2010
New Orleans (AP) – All the fans at the New Orleans arena was all build up for a sweet victory but their cheers suddenly stopped when Stephon Marbury nailed a two pointer with just 26 seconds left on the game to increase their lead to 4.
The New Orleans Hornets rally in the 4th quarter to overcome a 12 point deficit only to come up short against the Brooklyn Ballers 111 to 109.
“It was a good game, I was very disappointed when we loss are lead but a win is a win.” Patrick Ewing said. The Ballers were up by 12 points entering the 4th quarter and things don’t look good for the Hornets. But Mike Miller went on to hit back to back three pointers to cut the lead to 4 with less than 7 minutes left in the game.
The game was tight after Miller’s shot; the Hornets didn’t tie the score until there was 2 minutes left. Chris Paul hits a jumpshot to cut the lead in to 2 points then Peja Stojakovic intercept an inbound pass and was fouled. He hits two clutch freethrows to finally tie the game.
Marbury then nailed a floater with 42 seconds left in the game. Paul tried to answer back but he failed to sink in his shot with 35 seconds left. The Ballers quickly pushed the ball and finds Marbury who hits the game clinching shot. The Hornets draw a play for Peja to hit a threepointer but the ball couldn’t find him, David West was forced to hit a 15 foot jumpshot. He made it but there was no time left for them to attempt for a foul.
The Hornets were led by Paul who had 28 points on a poor shooting night, Peja finished with 21 while Emeka Okafor had a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Reports said that Paul was not happy about the team's current standing.
The Ballers starters struggled early in the game but their bench did an amazing job especially Sun Yue. Yue really capitalized his first game by earning 12 points in the first half. The Ballers outscored the Hornets bench 42 to 11, Kyle Korver had 12 points while Derek Fisher added 9. The Ballers stopped their 2 game losing streak.
Notes: The Ballers played without Morris Almond who will be out for 3 weeks for neck spasm, he was replace by Tony Allen who had 17 points... Trainers said that rookie Shelton Smith is not on his best physical condition mainly because of the road trip...
