Wed Mar 15, 2006 9:51 am

Yeah, I know. It was the best I could find. Only the back is screwed, though. Everywhere else it's fine, except that it's kind of low on my forehead, but that's the way I like it.

Part 4 – European Invasion…Plus a Chilean

“Hm… about time!” Montgomery shouted towards the rest of the staff. “Where the hell have you guys been? Get your asses over here, we finally got a whole team, introduce yourselves!”

The first of the four players stepped forward. The player was an extremely short, and was wearing a Marseille FUBU jersey with baggy Sean John Jeans. He spoke in semi-fluent English. “Hi all, my name is Nicky Rasamoelina, I am from Marseille, France, and I play point guard. Please to meet everyone.”

“Hm, this kid is really polite, just looking at his build reminds me of Earl Boykins, small but strong, and lots of energy.” Mullin thought.

Next up was a Hispanic looking fellow with puffy hair. He also seemed less than six feet, but also very well built. “Everyone, my name is Andres Muñoz. Do not judge me because of my size because I have the ability to rip your head from your shoulders. Never underestimate the power of a Chilean. I came here to play basketball, especially defense, and I will make sure I anyone who comes near MY paint will suffer my wrath. By the way, I am not mentally insane, I just have a passion that cannot be stopped.”

The rest of the players starred at him. Robert Sknrjug was hiding behind the taller Ben Branch while Jing Xu and William Sit were rolling on the ground laughing. Coach Montgomery and GM Mullin just starred at the Chilean with an amusing look.

“Alright everyone! Settle down, its time for me to introduce myself!” Proclaimed a skinny youngster from behind Muñoz. “My name is Andreas Dahl, I’m Swedish. I am here to play basketball and to win, and to represent my country. I’m here to prove that Swedes are not just champions at hockey, but basketball as well. My goal is to dunk on Kobe Bryant and break Allen Iverson’s ankles. My favorite basketball game is NBA Live 06, and I am willing to challenge anyone here, just try and beat me. Oh…and Sweden will kick USA’s ass at the Winter Olympics.”

“Heh, no, no, no. Russia will be the one that will own the Americans.” This came from the last person to be introduced. “Oh right. My name is Cyriel Klitsie. I am from Russia, but my goal is to live in New York. The day we play the Knicks, it will be the happiest day of my life, and even better when I dunk on Nate Robinson. I’ll tell you I am very optimistic about the season and the word losing is not in my language.”

“All right everyone! We have 14 members and finally a whole team. Now everyone knows what happened to the organization, and that you guys are brought in to be the “replacement players”. However the title should only encourage you guys to play better, and hopefully shed that replacement and replace it with NBA! We have only about half of training camp left, so other teams are going to be much better prepared…. However! You all have the support of the city and us, because this is no sideshow, this is the real thing! You will be flying first class, living in amazing suites, and best of all, playing in front of hundreds of thousands of people! Now the question is… can you survive?” Montgomery glanced around at his new players, in which nobody flinched; everyone was starring into his eyes, telling him they were ready.

“Good! Glad to see everyone is ready. You four new guys, come with me, the rest of you, go off with Coach Mike over there for sprints and conditioning!” Mullin directed. “And no complaining because this is the real thing, you complain, you don’t play, don’t get paid, and worst of all, you will not garner respect from your teammates!”

“Ok new guys. Show me what you got. I want to see you dive for every missed shot. I don’t care if this is just an individual workout; you still need to make everything into a game situation. This is not club in some small international country anymore. If you are weak and unwilling to hustle, Lebron James will run all over your ass! If you don’t box out for that rebound like you would in a game, Shaq will take that ball and dunk it in your face. Treat every time you touch the ball as if Bruce Bowen or Andrei Kirilenko is guarding you! Throw fakes, jabs, all that. We have to make up for lost time. Muñoz, Go!”

The guard Muñoz hails from Chile, where soccer is to their people what Jehovah is to Christians. “Drex” grew up playing soccer with his friends, but one day he walked by a store and saw Michael Jordan dunking on Patrick Ewing in the playoffs, and instantly fell in love with basketball. Despite being short, he has the fierceness of a tiger and is willing to protect his teammates, even if it means getting ejected. He is strongly built, yet he does not back down to taller defenders. In the league he will probably play a physical small forward, and he really does bring a new meaning to the word small.

Point guard Nicky Rasamoelina was introduced to mainstream basketball when And1 Street Tour went to France. He was chosen as a player and awed the crowd with his flashy speed and court suave. Being so short he has always relied on picks for his deadly popup three pointer and slashing inside for acrobatically layups. With the team so stacked, Rasamoelina will be competing for a point guard spot against Sit, Xu, and probably several others.

The Russian in the group is only 6’3, but he has amazing hops for his size. He was a leader on his club team and was scheduled to have a workout with CSKA Moscow, but he canceled when Mullin arrived at his door. A very explosive player, he has the quickest first step in Russia and knows how to finish. He is also a defensive mastermind, and is looking more and more like the next Andrei Kirilenko, hopefully without the injuries.

All eyes watched as the sleepy, out-of-it looking Swedish player stepped onto the court. He doesn’t look like he had much enthusiasm, but once he touched the basketball he came alive. He hails from hockey crazy Sweden and is considered the cream of the crop in Swedish basketball. His dedication and determination really showed during the game Mullin saw when he went to fetch Dahl. Dahl’s team had only 6 players dress, and 2 of them fouled out. However he continued to play his butt off with only 4 teams, and though his team lost, Mullin was set on Dahl as being a source of enthusiasm and inspiration.

At the end of the individual workouts, the new player joined the rest of the team. The 14 member strong Golden State Warriors looked at each other; they were finally doing it, finally being a part of a complete basketball team.

“Hey Mullin, we’ve got one more player coming, he’ll probably be here later today.” Montgomery told Mullin.
“Really, well why’s he coming late then? The whole team is here already, and this kid will just waltz in and be part of the team?” Mullin replied.
“Well, I figure you were going to say that. But trust me Chris, this kid is probably the best of all. He’s being recruited by Notre Dame and he is an all around player. His shooting is outstanding, but the only problem is that he lacks the desire to demand the ball. If we can make him do that, he could be the complete package.” Montgomery exclaimed.
“I still think you’re hyping him up too much. But whatever, lets just get everyone together, and be a team. Everyone here is guaranteed a spot on the team, but this does not mean you should take it easy, relax, and shit. You will work so hard that you’ll be dreaming about basketball. One of the greatest players of all time Bob Cousy dreamt basketball. His teammates recall him calling out plays during his sleep; I want you guys to be so immersed in the game that you will do the same!”

Lets go everyone… 1, 2, 3, WARRIORS!
