Raptors win in opening, despite losing Andrea
Its a new season and the Pacers were opening their season in Canada, against the Toronto Raptors. In the 4th minute of the game, the star of the canadian team,Andrea Bargnani fell down with an injury on his back.Sources are telling that he'll be out for 2-4 weeks with a lower back strain. After this injury it was all looking good for the Pacers as they thought it was going to be an easy win.
But that was not that.
Roy Hibbert showed some great post moves in the first quarter in which he finished with 10 points.Roy was working with The Admiral(David Robinson) last summer and it looks like he's doing better. On the other side,Danny Granger was awful,he couldnt score a lot of wide open shots.Granger only finished with 9 points on a 6-16 FG.At the half the Raptors went to the lockers with 6 point lead.
Demar Derozan and Nick Young were on fire in the 3rd quarter where at one point the Raptors led by 21.Indiana didn't have an answer for the perfect offense of the Raptors. They're struggling. From the bench,JR Smith and Brandon Rush scored some points in the beginning of the fourth to low down the lead of Toronto, but that wasn't enough.
Finally the Raptors won it 96-82 and Jose Calderon won the player of the game award finishing with 11 points,12 assists and 6 steals.
Roy Hibbert made a career-high 9 blocks in this game. The Pacers will be looking for their first win on the 29th of october at home against the Denver Nuggets.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Hibbert's double-double not enough,Pacers losing second straight
After playing not that good in their first game at Air Canada Centre, the Indiana Pacers were waiting for the Nuggets to come to town. Both teams were looking for a win, because they both lost their opening games. The Nuggets who signed Yao Ming this summer were really strong under the basket now,but they lost to the Cavaliers in the opening night.
It looked like the Pacers are really motivated in the beginning of the game,Danny Granger and Roy Hibbert scored some points to help Indiana took the early lead.Today they were scoring, they were totally different team from this one who lost to the Raptors.
On the other side, the Nuggets who lost their superstar Carmelo Anthony last year, were playing really beautiful basketball to watch.Making a lot of fastbreaks and some nasty dunks were on the display.J.R. Smith who was facing his former team checked in the game in the 2nd quarter and he started with 2 straight 3-pointers.
At the half,Indiana had the small 5 point lead.Yao was the player who kept the drama.Despite double-teaming him the Pacers couldn't do nothing. He was just on fire.Roy Hibbert blocked him a few times but Yao finished with 29.
In the last quarter,Indiana had 5-8 points lead and they started missing, and the Nuggets started scoring. In about 2 minutes Denver took a 9 point lead and Indiana were on the losing side again. Some three pointers by Collison and Granger wasn't enough because Yao was a monster in the post and rookie Cedric Walsh scored a wide open three.
With 0.5 seconds left Paul George hit the three but that was enough only for 97 to 95.Another loss for Indiana.
Yao Ming won the Jordan player of the game award. He had 29 points,6rebounds,4 blocks,2 steals and 2 assists.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
The Washington Wizards won against the Miami Heat trio surprisingly last night. They totally outscored them in the first quarter 25 to 7.Rookie,Perry Jones added 26 points and 7 rebounds for the win.John Wall finished with 12.
The Nets played at home against the Orlando Magic last night.Brook Lopez held Howard to 10 points and 3 rebounds for 28 minutes. While Deron Williams had 34 points,3 rebounds and 5 assists to secure the Nets win 115 to 96.
Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony were name players of the week in the both conferences.Despite Oklahoma losing against the Timberwolves in the opening night,Durant had 29 points,14 rebounds and 5 assists.Melo scored 34 to help the knicks beat the Celtics in their first game.
Granger led Pacers to first win
After two tough losses Indiana were facing the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs have won their only game until now as they beat the Nuggets 4 days ago.Strengthen by Shannon Brown who scored 27 in the win at the Pepsi Center, the Cavaliers were looking pretty good.
JJ Hickson and rookie Alec Burks started to worry the Pacers defense and coach O'Brien decided to double-team the former MIP,JJ,but he was still unstoppable.Tyler Hansbrough who is playing with strained toe in these first games, scored 7 points in the first quarter when nobody was thinking he'll do this.
After 10 minutes the Cavaliers were leading but in the 2nd quarter some nice plays by Danny Granger who finally took the matters in his hands gave Indiana the lead. They won the 2nd quarter 26 to 18 and went on a 4 point lead after 20 minutes.
The third quarter was really interesting, both teams were scoring each one after another. So no one could take bigger lead.
In the fourth at one point the Pacers had 9 point lead.Shannon Brown was unsure about that and he had to score all of his 3 3-pointers in the last quarter. With 1 point lead and 28 seconds left,Danny Granger scored a nice fade-away jumper to give the Pacers a 92 to 89 lead.In the next Cavs offense,Brown missed and Darren Collison was fouled. He scored 1 from 2 to finish the game 93 to 89.
"Its great to win ! We have some new guys in our team but the basics are still the same like last year so I guess it was just a matter of time to win this one.Our goal is to find place in the playoffs and I think it is really, really realizable" said Danny Granger after the game.
